  1. Playing devil's advocate, look at the draft where the Twins took Mauer over Prior for financial reasons. Everybody thought Prior was best pick but Mauer has turned out to be the best pick. Hopefully the Packers don't move up to take Bush. If I were them, I def. would. I think he'll end up a Jet though.
  2. True, but it's worth a shot. If Yost didn't buy it, he could have put Restovich up. Either way, it works out when you have a useless but potent bat like Barrett to play with.
  3. I guess I just am not as angry because I feel I've see wores (i.e. Hundley, Estes, Harris). To me Neifi has been 10 times as good as Lenny Harris was for us and Jones could end up being another Hundley, but I'm still willing to wait and see what he does for a while longer. BTW-I don't like the fact that either on the team. I touted acquiring Mench.
  4. How are three young pitchers trying to stick in the big leagues even remotely close to Howry and Eyre, arguably the best righty and lefty setup men in the game last year?
  5. His average is up to .275 now, but as someone else mentioned, he only has the one walk and isn't getting a whole lot of extra base hits or anything. that sounds awfully similar to another cf ive seen a lot of this year sample size.
  6. I think Neifi is bad, but he's not in the legendary class of badness that some think he is and doesn't warrent the constant criticism he gets. If he was a starter, ok, fine, but he's not so I don't understand the obsession.
  7. I don't even dislike Neifi like others, but I just want to see him go so the bickering can end.
  8. and the cubs couldn't have done that why? If they knew Barrett was hurt, they would just assume it was a decoy and ignore it at least until he faced a pitch. you don't think the brewers had it figured out? see abucks post above. Well, why did we all know it, why was it reported. I assumed this was because of Barrett answering questions/speaking out?

  10. Like I said, let's say the Cubs put Barrett on deck as a pinch hitter with a lefty on the mound. We could force them to bring in a righty to face Mabry.
  11. I think this is legit. It's absurd to hide an injury to "bluff". Why? what were the brewers going to do differently? This is just over-managing. And why would cub fans discuss the cubs and their manager? Weird stuff. Let's say the Cubs put Barrett on deck as a pinch hitter with a lefty on the mound. We could force them to bring in a righty to face Mabry.
  12. 2003 with Prior, Wood, Z all pitching 210+ innings with a combined ERA of about 2.90 and Borowski converting just a shade below 90% of his save opportunities is about as good as things can get pitching wise. I doubt we'll ever see that again.
  13. This is Dusty Baker though. I wouldn't put it past him to start Blanco two days in a row for no apparent reason. However, this was a Maddux game, so maybe they would just think Maddux prefers Blanco. I agree with Dusty here.
  14. We should go Seattle on them and vote for our whole starting lineup. Everybody else does it. I'd love to see Edmonds and Beltran lose to Pierre.
  15. The Babe was very pleased with the day's proceedings. He's "tenderizing" the goat with his Louisville Slugger as we speak.
  16. Jones had a hell of a game today. Maybe he is breaking out of the funk.
  17. I have always been one of the biggest Wuertz fans since he came up, but if we could get Clark for him for this and next year at the cheap price he is signed for, we would be crazy not to do it. I would be surprised if Arizona didn't try to squeeze a prospect out of us as well.
  18. Why would anyone be mad at or frustrated with Jones for doing what he is capable of doing though? That seems stupid. That anger should be directed at Hendry.
  19. Yeah, the capabilities of the player should be a factor. Edmonds should be able to get on fire and get out of his slump, as much as I hope he won't. This thread was inspired by Jacque Jones, who seems to be written off already in a lot of peoples minds. Personally, I'm not ready to do that yet. He's one good, not great week from being on pace for a career average season.
  20. Ok, at least we are on the same page there, and I never said they did drugs in the studio. I'm just saying that album was inspired by drugs to some degree, I think a large one but that's just me, and you can hear it in the lyrics and music. I once got in argument with a huge Beatles fan who denied that they smoked marijuana. Talk about a slam dunk. McCarty even got caught with a monster stash in an airport.
  21. The Rockies have Ian Stewart to replace him. He or Ramirez would have to change positions while Lee is out, but I think Atkins could play first.
  22. As in, that his season is going to end up a bad one or below his standards. I think it has to be at least 40 games.
  23. How little you obviously know on the subject. No offense. There is only one instance in the ENTIRE Beatles recording sessions over 7 years where one of them was on LSD. That was Lennon who was promptly dismissed by the producer. It seems like a lot of Beatles fans deny their drug use for some reason.
  24. Patterson sucks, maybe some don't agree with it but let's not rub it in. Those who think he is bad at baseball should just know they are right and move on, happy we don't have to watch him play for the Cubs anymore.
