  1. I wonder if the NSBB team discussed in the polls section a while back could have scored two runs in 4+ games.
  2. If the Cubs could replace Baker with Groove tomorrow for the rest of the season, would you be in favor of it? Who is the worse/more frustrating manager?
  3. Didn't someone write an article here that said it would cost us 2 or 3 games this year?...turns out it was 2 or 3 games a week.
  4. Even Bowden wouldn't do that deal. We should be looking at Soriano since he is a FA after this season and will likely be moved at some point. I'm not sure what to do with the defense, but he is having a great year at the plate. Edit: his numbers have dipped considerably recently...maybe not a good idea unless he is reasonably priced....better player than Alou though.
  5. I think if Pierre bunted in all hitters counts, he'd hit .300...not sure what it would do for his OBP though.
  6. Would Barrett have blocked the plate anyway? No, he would have stayed in front of home like he always does and tried a swipe tag to avoid contact. :-s I'm not knocking him, just the strategy. I think if the throw is close or gonna be late, you can easliy get the guy out by blocking plate like Scioscia to buy time. For some reason, Barrett refuses to do this. barrett's plate blocking technique is about 592nd on the list of the cubs' problems right now. True, haha. It would only take about 5 min. for a coach to permantly fix this problem though.

  9. 198 says it all. till he hits 400 one month and ends up with a avg over 300 then you will be like oh lets keep him, hes so good Bashing Ramirez is ridiculous. He should get AT LEAST a half season of hitting below .200 before he gets remarks like that.
  10. Giles wasn't leaving SD. What are you talking about? A friend of a friend's grandmother who taught his Giles' dad in high school told me he really wanted to come to Chicago and play for the Cubs. The contract fell through in the zero hour though. Thanks, now I have to see this example quoted by the Giles people the rest of the season.
  11. You do realize these guys are only 5.76% of the way through their contracts? But can they hit lefties? Righties? a ball out of the infield? Does anyone remember Hawkins? Don't tell me anybody here actually thought that guy was good. We needed to fix the bullpen. The Cubs would have single digit wins if Hawkins and Remlinger were in place of Howry and Eyre.
  12. Rusch and Neifi were Royals. Jones was nearly a Royal. Not surprising. I believe there was a time earlier in CPatt's career when we could have sent him and another prospect or two to the Royals for Beltran but the Cubs didn't want to. CPatt was the centerpiece though...he would have fit in very well with that team.
  13. Yeah, no kidding. People are posting positive threads on him too.
  14. [-X How soon people forget. It's rnez (no o, no d). :D Did you guys know that he left his woman and son in Cuba to come to the major leagues and when later asked if he missed them, he said he didn't have a son.
  15. He said it was a leg injury, not two day old chinese food.
  16. I like the Mazzone philosophy. Throw more between starts to build arm strength and durability.
  17. With all due respect, you shutting up is probably the least of his worries. I meant like-minded people in the media.
  18. Why not just make him see a sports psychologist about his injuries though since he has the time because he isn't playing right now? If nothing else, just to get people like me to stop speculating and shut up.
  19. I was kind of confusing. What I was saying was either the Cubs abuse in 2003 is why Prior can't stay healthy, in which case I don't want the Cubs to have anything to do with him. The reason is that if one season of abuse puts you out in large parts of 3 years and who knows how much longer, forget it, he's damaged goods. If it's Prior's fault, I'd say get rid of him, but I wouldn't be against him seeing a sports psychologist with all of that off time he has first.
  20. Clemens had a serious shoulder injury in 85.
  21. Very few owners would spend more than the Tribune. For that matter, very few owners do spend more. The Cobs' payroll is listed right now as 7th in the major leagues by ESPN. Seriously, when do you ever hear about the Cubs not going after an FA because he'll cost too much money? We might not be in the Yanks/BoSox stratosphere, but we're nowhere near the other guys either. This team spends money. By the way, who knew that Jimmy Leyland still had anything in the tank!? You're right, the Cubs only don't go after certain free agents because they are too good at baseball.
  22. This is definitely a black and white issue: Either the Cubs turned Prior into damaged goods, and we need to get his trade value up and deal him for something of value. or The reason he is missing all of this time is all mental, and we need to get him help and keep him or get his trade value up and deal him for something of value. Either way, something needs to be done.
  23. Well, I guess the conclusion is that the Cubs probably damaged Prior for good, so they need to work toward getting his trade value up and shipping him out.
  24. What are the numbers on Willis? I know I remember him pitching pretty much every other game in the 03 playoffs.
  25. Maybe this is the time to offer Prior a 10 year 50 million dollar deal.
