  1. Like it or not, Patterson's performance over the last few years is probably the singular reason Pierre is on the team. That's what got everybody pining for a proven leadoff man.
  2. I'm not sure. I know a lot of people here were big Hendry supporters, but I think even those people are beginning to change their minds. He probably gets a pass from management because they don't know any better.
  3. I don't like the Jones deal, but they would have been paying 5 million to watch Pagan and Mabry play RF most of the year because Nomar gets hurt too much.
  4. I'm surprised; I figured Cedeno would get a lot of votes.
  5. Hairston for Horn. That's what I had in mind, actually. I could see the Pads doing that, especially since Hairston could help out in the outfield.
  6. Combination of age, contract, current value to team, potential future value to team, position, etc.
  7. Just out of curiosity, why do you think he is a great G.M.?
  8. You mean OPS. Yeah, he has been oddly inconsistent. The Cubs should trade for him though. I think he would help the offense; he could start at second.
  9. Probably not, but I don't think managing a big league ball club is as hard a job as it is a hard job to get. I think there are a lot of people who could make great managers, but they would never have the connections to get the job nor the respect from the players because they would want a former player managing them. Hence, I can't say for sure those kinds of guys would have done a bad job over the course of a season. You are right about everything else you said about them though.
  10. Holy Hyperbole, Batman !!! Do you realize that Joey Amalfitano, Lee Elia, Charlie Fox, John Vukovich, Frank Lucchesi, Joe Altobelli, Jim Essian, Rene Lachemann & Bruce Kimm have all managed the Chicago CUBS during the last quarter century ???? I say we exhume the body of Frank Chance and prop him up in the dugout and call him the manager. At least he's led the team to a World Series title before !!!! I don't think guys that only managed a couple games can be judged.
  11. That's a tough one, I really didn't like Ed Lynch, but he didn't have the resources Hendry has.
  12. Wouldn't matter much, the manager can't change the roster, and thats exactly whats wrong with this team. No hitting. What can he do? I don't like Baker at all, but I'm far from a basher. I just don't think it should EVER occur to him to do things like starting Bynum two days in a row, especially since he didn't do much in the first game. If he gets 3 or 4 hits, I can deal with it, but just doing it for no reason is stupid.
  13. Thanks for your time. I have a question out of left field. I know you started a few games in the minors last year and that it was probably just to get innings, work on pitches, build arm strength, whatever. I just wonder if you think you could build the stamina to be a full time starter? When was the last time you were a starter, and if it was just your choice, which would you want to be?
  14. It'll be the fundaMENTALS section when some of our players are in there.
  15. If the next time they score a run is at home, I want to hear that song from "The Natural" no matter what the score of the game is at the time.
  16. I agree, but I don't take much solace in the fact we are better than the Pirates and Royals.
  17. Is he still alive? even at 60-70 years old, he may be the Cubs solution to no Left handed BP pitcher. Hell, he's probably better than Rusch, and would sign for less money! Put him in the pen as the long man! Rusch probably is a primarily right handed ambidextrous pitcher.
  18. that made me really sad :( Second time in the series I left with the Cavs down around 5 on the road with about 5 minutes left and come back to them winning. Next up: Detroit Did you leave because you thought they would lose because that isn't much of a comeback at all. No, I wasn't losing hope or leaving out of disgust, just went to get ice cream with friends. Ah, the ole good luck when you aren't there thing. Happens to me a lot. Where'd you go, shakeys?
  19. that made me really sad :( Second time in the series I left with the Cavs down around 5 on the road with about 5 minutes left and come back to them winning. Next up: Detroit Did you leave because you thought they would lose because that isn't much of a comeback at all.
  20. I just hope I never see this...I'll turn off the game if I do. CF Pierre SS Perez 3B Ramirez 1B Mabry LF Restovich 2B Bynum C Blanco Pitcher
  21. Yeah, just what the Cubs need more "veteran leadership" on a sinking ship known as the Chitantic. What is the USE of a "veteran leadership" on a team that blows (in Bostonian accent) chowder? Yeah, I don't think veteran leadership should be on the radar at all at this point. The offense stinks. I'd take Delmon Young if we could and he provides the antithesis of veteren leadership.
  22. Ok, that's fine. I just found it insulting. Maybe I took it the wrong way. In my opinion, Baylor usually put his best players out there and used bad strategy and Baker puts bad lineups most of the time and is inconsistent at best with his in game managing. I think they are pretty different. Personally, I'd rather have the best lineup with subpar strategy.
  23. I don't understand the question. This isn't Playstation. Baker/Baylor can't make Barrett not swing at an eye high fastball, they can't make Hairston lay down a bunt, they can't make pitchers not walk the leadoff hitter, etc. I think you'd have to throw Riggleman in there who had inept offenses in 1997 and 1999, but that may have been before your time. Nice try at the cheap shot, but you're wrong, oh well. I thought starting Bynum two games in a row has a negative impact on the offense and defense, but I guess I'm just a 10 year old idiot who doesn't know anything about baseball. Thanks for educating me.
  24. yes, some guys have sucked, but lee's absence could trim a run or two per game. that's a lot! Ok, now you've just called Lee the most valuable player in the history of baseball. a run or 2 a game=240 runs over an average replacement first baseman, who will most likely get 100 or so rbi+runs in a season... Lee, your 200 RBI, 140 run MVP! Lee could produce those kinds of numbers.......in MVP baseball.
