  1. How is she clearly guilty? Doesn't aggravated assault actually require some sort of actual assault? Assault includes threats and attempts to do bodily harm to someone. It becomes aggravated if it more serious than a common assault, so it's kind of open to interpretation.
  2. Yeah, Hendry is definitely one of those crusty old baseball scouts from Moneyball. I'd like to have a guy who is a combination of old school and new school for two reasons. I like a lineup to have guys who can get on base, but at the same time, I think there is a lot of value in super talented non-OBP players too, such as Willy Mo Pena. I also don't like completely disregarding defense and everything else for OBP. That means no Hattebergs.
  3. Even if Shealy was a AAAA player, which I highly doubt he is, it still improves the team because half the offense we already have is AAA quality.
  4. What's age have to do with anything? He's been the Cubs No. 2 behind Z since he got here.
  5. Was he actually being serious? It would take more than another year or two for Maddux to get into the Hall as a Cub (I doubt anything less than another three years with a World Series title would do it). And it would be a horrible move for Hendry to make. There's no real impact move for Hendry to make. Aside from finding a platoon partner for Jones and firing most of the coaching staff, Dusty, and then himself, there are no easy answers. A lot of people said giving Maddux the third year would be horrible too.
  6. Hendry should just fire Baker and put himself in the dugout for now.
  7. I'm having fun trying to think of definitions for assinate. I made a typo. Don't be assinate about the situation.
  8. I'm interested to see if the hostile environment is something that would keep Dusty from even accepting an extension. I can just picture some crazy Cub fan assinating him at the press conference. (joke)
  9. If they suck the rest of 2006, win 85 in 2007 and then struggle to start 2008, and Hendry has extended Baker or hired a new manager, I would be willing to bet he isn't brought back again. A bad 2006 along with the return of Hendry and Baker in 2007 will guarantee lower attendence (despite the myths it does happen when the team struggles), which will piss off ownership to no end. And they will force Andy to make a change. Andy has fired Lynch, he's fired Riggleman, he's fired Baylor, coaches, trainers, Sosa and others. They made a mistake in extending Hendry. They will not do it again unless he improves the team. I think an 85 win team would pack Wrigley every game.
  10. No way. If Hendry is allowed to either extend Baker or sign a new manager, and the team still sucks, that will have been his last chance. If they were willing to sign him to a new contract now, I'm not assuming anything. They signed Hendry to a new contract during a good start, following what they considered to be one off year. If they suck in 2006, 2007 and 2008, they won't consider it an off year or a fluke. Hendry will pay by then. Cubs GMs don't last long into years of struggle. Dallas Green was fired after a couple losing seasons following the 84 season. Frey wasn't even given 2 years after the 89 season. Larry Himes did his damage early and was gone in 2.5 years (despite one moderately successful season). Lynch was given 4 years to get things going under the new Andy regime, but was fired just 1.5 years after the 98 wild card. Hendry's teams won 88 and 89 games and looked to be on the way up. 2005 was a down year, they thought it was a fluke. If 2006 and 2007 end up with similar results, he probably won't be back in 2008, let alone allowed to hire a new manager after 2008. Yeah, but how about crap this year, around 85 wins next year, then a bad start in 2008.
  11. His minor league numbers are better than Todd Helton. This guy is a good player.
  12. No way. If Hendry is allowed to either extend Baker or sign a new manager, and the team still sucks, that will have been his last chance. If they were willing to sign him to a new contract now, I'm not assuming anything.
  13. Look at it from Hendry's side. If he extends Baker for two years, he can fire him in 2008 if the team still sucks, get a new manager then and possibly secure himself another extension.
  14. Hill for Shealy would be a good, fair trade for both teams.
  15. I don't believe players "shut it down".......way too much money at stake. Would you do a bad job at work to get your boss in trouble?
  16. Why would someone do that? And why are you baiting them to do so? It seems that for the flak that our other pitchers get for their perceived inadequacies(Z's mental toughness, Wood's stubborness, Prior's pansiness), no one gets upset with Maddux when he decides not to go through the order a 4th time, or that he waited until this year to hire a trainer to get in shape, etc. I wasn't seriously asking someone to do that. I think people just want Z to get the best out of his talent and avoid suspensions so he can help the team. I've never heard of Wood's stubborness. And Prior doesn't play baseball, so anybody should be able to say whatever they want about that.
  17. that's because the people that say jones sucks are not wrong. Well, we look at things differently then. When I see a player doing good, and I'd like to see Jones get his numbers up a little bit more before I say he is, I won't be afraid to say he is doing a good job whether I like him or not.
  18. Why? Seemed like they tried to trade Walker all offseason and couldn't find any takers. Bringing Nomar back doesn't change that. Nomar, Cedeno AND Walker is called depth. Having a good player to move over to 1b or 3b when one of your star players gets hurt is what depth is for. It's also good to have depth when someone needs a day off, instead of filling roster spots with retreads and non difference makers. Considering the amount of holes this team had offensively, depth is a good thing. Considering they had holes in the OF that needed to be addressed, bringing back Nomar made sense. I think Hendry would have traded Walker for Matos or someone like that just to get rid of him if he already had Nomar too.
  19. If they signed Nomar, Cedeno would have moved to second and Walker would have been traded. So really, Walker's numbers aren't that far off from Nomar's, and he's played more. Add to that Cedeno developing at second instead of SS, we'd have started moving him back and forth, and that's a bad idea. And Perez would have likely started in Nomar's absense. So IMO, Walker>Nomar/Perez and for the Cedeno position factor.
  20. That's a quick way to alienate a veteran ballclub. So what as long as they perform.
  21. I agree except with the last part.He did overpay for Pierre and Jones. He should not have to overpay for a player in the offseason. Maybe at the deadline to put you over. Right now is yet another example. Hendry needs to make a deal for offense. He needed to three weeks ago.
  22. It wouldn't be anything other than a guy getting angry. It's not going to help our pitchers to stop putting the team in early holes, and it won't stop Clines and Matthews from preaching an obviously flawed approach at the plate, which particularly kills them after said pitching staff couhgs up an early 5 spot. It would be an arbitrary, meaningless expression contradicting his supposed lack of interest. It wouldn't do beans for this team. Ok, so you won't be disappointed if we get a good manager who possesses that quality? I would be thrilled to get a good manager. I could care less about his personality, as long as he knows what he's doing and it open to different ideas about the game. Having a guy who yells and is intense is the least of my concerns, and it should be the least of any fans' concerns. Yelling and screaming is not a trait that wins you championships. Well, I like a manager who at least tries to intimidate his players to try and establish some authority with them. That along with holding them accountable and doing so publicly. These guys are making millions of dollars or are trying to get that kind of money. They aren't going to start playing bad out of spite for an unliked manager. They are going to be motivated by the money to put up numbers. If anything, they may at least try or think they are trying harder just to spite the manager and show him up with great numbers. If you want to get the best out of your players, make it hard on them if they don't perform. They don't want to be benched or embarrased in public because it costs them money. And if you think it will hurt us in free agency....free agents go to who pays them the most 99% of the time.

  24. You should read the thread before you comment. It wasn't created to praise Jones, it was created to ridicule and embarrass other members of this forum. That's troll behavior. If I were a moderator this thread would prompt a strong warning. Oh, really? I just looked at the thread stater's post total and assumed it was praising Jones and other outcasts when they do well.
  25. Dusty is a bad manager, but Hendry deserves more blame. His unwillingness to trade propects until their value has gone down, and his unwillingness to overpay to make immediate, impact moves when they are needed have killed this team year after year.
