  1. DePaul is 8-3 and already have more wins than they had all of next season, but have beaten 4 putrid teams in a row (Loyola, Chicago St, NIU, and Arkansas Pine Bluff). They play a decent Cal Poly team that has beaten USC and Fresno State tomorrow. Real Time RPI is predicting a win tomorrow and a 5-13 Big East campaign for a 14-16 overall record. That's pretty good progress if it happens.
  2. These Cubans seem like they have a ton of upside, but a lot of risk also. What would be the better bet, $75 million for 5 years for Cespedes and Soler combined or $125 million and 5 years for Fielder? I'm not really sure, but there is almost 0 chance Fielder is a "bust", but there could be a big chance of a bust on the Cubans. However, if both Cubans pan out, you have 2/3rds of a productive outfield for 4-5 years (Cespedes) and possibly 2-3 years (Soler) for $15MM total/year. I'm torn, but I'd roll the dice on the Cubans, especially Soler since the spending cap takes effect next year.
  3. Theo or not, future awesomeness or not, there's really no scenario I can envision where the Cubs don't totally suck next year, especially if they trade Garza. I understand it's going to be a process to build a winner, but going to games next year won't really be any better than going this past year. Castro getting 3 hits and having 12 Old Styles will basically be the only reasons to go.
  4. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks he got too much (3/$31.5). http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/from-romance-to-marriage-cuddyer-to-colorado/ Makes the DeJesus signing look good.
  5. I was in Vegas for that Ward HR game vs. the Marlins and had bet on the game. I've never had a bad thing to say about Daryle Ward since that day. He won me a whopping $20.
  6. Yeah, it was ridiculous. I thought at one point he stopped, but then they showed the side angle on the replay and it was clear he didn't. So awesome and then the blatant celebration about 10 feet in front of the net. It was kind of a big EFF YOU to the Wild who think they're suddenly something special. That's why Kane is great and such an awesome compliment to Toews, who would never just throw it in their face like that. Hahaha, suck it, Wild.
  7. Great move. http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/9438507-418/cubs-buy-mcdonalds-property-across-from-wrigley-field.html
  8. I don't know of their relationship, but if Haley is brought on as OC, it could have a big impact of whether or not Bowe would consider the Bears.
  9. If the Cubs offer 6/$150 and the Mariners offer 8/$200, I wonder what Prince/Boras would pick? You would think the Cubs have the advantages of being in an easier division and marketability and stadium fit. The Mariners would have money and the opportunity to DH at the end of the deal. Would be an interesting decision.
  10. Seahawks 14 Bears 10 The final nail in the coffin of a terrible season. They'll start Hanie or McCown vs. the Packers and lose by 30. Then, in week 17, it's a battle of the quarterbacking titans: Nate Enderle vs. Mighty Joe Webb
  11. I'm all about Owings for cheap. He would be a great swing man and could also function as a decent PH option in the early innings when a starter is getting rocked or in extra innings as your long guy who you don't have to pinch hit for. He's a decent pitcher, but his offensive value could be very key. Of course, things like that matter more on a certain contender, but if we are in a division race, a guy like that is important.
  12. And we traded 2 first round picks and a 2nd/5th swap (got Knox in the 5th) for a top 10 QB that has completely justified the trade and unfortunately wasted one on Gaines Adams, who, IMO, would have thrived in this defense if he didn't, you know, die. The draft the year after the Super Bowl was atrocious and indefensible, but since then, it hasn't been terrible. Also, if Jay doesn't get hurt, we're 9-4 or 10-3 and on our way to the playoffs with a good chance of at least 1 playoff win. I'm not a huge Angelo fan, but his drafting isn't the reason for yesterday's loss or Jay getting hurt.
  13. I think the Bears beat Oakland easily with Cutler. He's got 2 more years on his deal at a very favorable price. There's probably no need to act fast, but I would strongly suggest they get a deal done by midseason next year. If there's any silver lining to this, it's the fact that any remaining doubts about Cutler's value to this team have been removed. They'll get a deal done. I would bet there are tremendous doubts from the naysayers about a) his durability, b) his desire to play/win, c) his worthiness for a big franchise QB contract. Hell, there were Peyton Manning doubters until well after he won a SB. People will comment about how Cutler has finished back to back seasons injured. I'm sure you're right, although after seeing the effects of him out of the lineup, that kind of talk seems more like digging for anything negative to say about an obviously valuable player. Especially considering we don't have alternatives on the roster, and we've got a long history of failing to acquire a good QB. Yeah, Cutler should hold out for a giant contract. The Bears have absolutely no leverage here. What's the downside for Cutler? Everyone already thinks he's a dick. The competitor in him is bothered by this injury, but the businessman in him is loving it.
  14. I know he's a dickbag and the Chiefs offense has sucked this year, but I'd take Haley as the Bears OC in a heartbeat. If for nothing than to see him and Cutler get into a fistfight about 5 practices in to training camp. Seriously, though, his track record as an offensive coach is pretty good. I'd take him over Martz.
  15. Why Urlacher is talking post game trash is beyond me YOU LOST THE FREAKIN GAME MORON! The offense lost the game. They went all those years without an offense, and just when it looked like they had one with credibility, one that could actually convert on 3rd and 8, and score occasionally, it all blows up and they now have a worse offense than they've ever had during the Urlacher era. He's not talking trash, its accurate. The thing that sucks the most about these three games is those teams are obviously terrible, and they've done nothing in the games played to suggest they are anything but terrible. The Bears offense is just so incredibly impotent without Cutler that it doesn't even matter how terrible those opponents have been. With Cutler they probably win all three games by more than a touchdown. Yep, if Cutler's healthy, we're 10-3 with an 8 game win streak and all but locked up a playoff spot. Hell, I'll even give the Raiders that game because the Bears did put up a decent amount of points. Still 9-4 team with Cutler at worst. Pay him whatever the hell he wants, oh and get him some damn help. One of the most disappointing things in all of this is that Peppers, Urlacher, Briggs, and Tillman aren't getting any younger. We're wasting an outstanding defensive season right now. There's no way all of them make it basically through a 3rd consecutive season without injuries next year. [expletive] it all.
  16. But Sczur is the next Juan Pierre, how can you doubt Law?!!!
  17. Cubs acquire Stewart and Casey Weathers for Colvin and LeMahieu. Ok?
  18. Yep. This is no different than Minnesota running off Glen Mason for Tim Brewster and, now, Jerry Kill. How's that working out for the Gophers? I have no beef with Illini football, but this is uninspiring at best and a disaster at worst. Washington State can spend $2.5MM for Mike Leach and Illinois hires Toledo's coach who ran a defense that allowed 60+ points in consecutive MAC games? Why spend all the money to remodel the stadium if this is the investment you are going to make?
  19. According to Phil Rogers, Angels thought about Soriano before acquiring Pujols. That's like saying "I considered McDonald's for dinner, but instead went to Chicago Cut". WTF?
  20. How about any DePaul team from the last 20 years? Come on, only like 15 of those seasons have we been worse! But, yeah, I saw that Utah lost by 31 to Cal State something or other and thought: "Why can't DePaul get them on their schedule?"
  21. so he doesn't do enough to help his team win Yeah, Joe Morgan and Tim McCarver think he sucks AND THEY'RE IN THE HALL OF FAME!
  22. Exactly, this would have been sooooo much better had they not lucked their way into 2 WS in the past 6 years.
  23. Pujols to the Angels or really any team in the AL is great for the Cubs. Let's hope this is true. And then we'll sign Fielder and be the big swinging dick in the NL Central like we should be.
