  1. Lol, Kane is such a dick.
  2. Might be time for Kerry Wood to hang it up. Too bad Theo had to give in to the meatballs on this one.
  3. So they basically fired Bruce Weber to hire a new Bruce Weber. That's a tough sell to the fanbase, although Thomas pursued the right 2 top names (Shaka & Stevens). Don't know why those guys wouldn't leave, I'm sure Chris Lowery wishes he'd have taken a high major job a few years ago.
  4. Argh I wonder what he said to keep him in freaking Jacksonville. "We have some of the world's best retirement homes!" You won't have to deal with all the pressure of playing in the playoffs and your work year will be shorter! We're going to trade for Tebow and he'll ensure you go to heaven!
  5. Boozer and 2 1s for Melo? Edit: We'd have to throw in Omer, in which case it would probably be Boozer, Omer, and only 1 #1. I also tried Boozer, Noah, and Omer for Chandler & Melo and it worked.
  6. And Weems got a DUI in 2009, so Emery was correct when talking about bringing in Playmakers, unfortunately, it's like the Playmakers from the ESPN show...
  7. I'm pissed if I'm a Miami fan. Imagine being a Broncos fan. You gave up Cutler and Marshall because Josh McDaniels was a douche and now you have Tebow. If Manning doesn't sign there, they'll suck again.
  8. How many games did you see live as a kid? I think I went to about 4 Cubs games by the time I was 18. I can only remember 2 specifically but I'm sure there were a couple more. I probably went to about three a year on average through the college years and then a few more when I got out of school and had my own real income. If you spend 18 years of your kids life without being able to take him to a Cubs game that would be a shame, a total first world ridiculous shame, but a shame nonetheless. But odds are you can at least go to one a year if you insist and any kid that needs more than that is a spoiled brat. Or you could go to an unlimited amount of White Sox games. They are still MLB.
  9. And Upper Deck Box are only $59. Whoever buys those bleacher tickets is mentally challenged.
  10. They were a lot better this year than last. Before the game today, they were over 50 spots higher in Pomeroy rankings than last year (and 178x more likely to win the Big East tourney than last year). Decent progress. They have to have a winning season and post season play next year as their goal (something like 10-2 noncon and 7-11 conference).
  11. A particularly impressive fear considering how little depth they have. They get a lot of respect from the officials.
  12. With this and the bunt tourney, I'm beginning to think that Dale Sveum is going to become everything people feared that Ryne Sandberg would be, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Welcome to Dale Ball. You know what else grows on people, FUNGUS! They're about the same thing. Can't wait until we actually have some real players on this team and a .300 hitting no power, no OBP glove monster isn't worthy of discussing unless we're talking about 25th men.
  13. Anyone else sick of the medias collective boner over this bunting contest? Sveum sure knows how to get on the good side of a bunch of old timey loving white guys.
  14. LeBron didn't pass to Deron Williams, that was someone else as LeBron had inbounded the ball. If he was the one to pass to Deron, that's a great play as Williams was wide open and had been playing well. After that, LeBron got the rebound with like 4 seconds left and chose to try to pass it again and ended up throwing it away rather than attempt the shot. At the end of the day, it doesn't mean a whole lot, but I doubt Kobe or MJ try to force a pass rather than just take a shot.
  15. That Knicks team that made the Finals sucked also, but that was in a strike year.
  16. Cubs absolutely could. This most likely means that the brain trust didn't think he was worth that kind of money. I consider this the first Theo fail. Now I'm rooting for Cespedes to suck so I can still believe in everything Theo does.
  17. Dropped passes mean nothing when you consistently catch 75-100 passes. What's the most they'll drop 9-10? Not a significant number when you are talking about a guy with 140+ targets. One of the most overrated stats in football. Every single player drops passes. And there aren't any offensive players in the NFL that drops anywhere near the number of passes to cancel out his production. Sorry for the mini-rant. You do realize that was based on drop % right? That factors in targets & drops.
  18. From a hoops standpoint i think we are almost as good as them. Their guys know how to get the whistle and ours dont. And they have LeBron who can neutralize DRose in end game situations. We don't have 2 guys who can keep LBJ and Wade in check the whole game. Overall, we're very close, but the last 3 times the Bulls have played the Heat, Bulls have basically been terrible at the end of the game. That's not a coincidence.
  19. I don't agree with this. Because we will probably never beat the Heat even with HCA?
  20. Is it really that good? Certainly pricey. I almost went there for brunch last weekend. It's outstanding. Mojitos and Pork Shoulder are glorious.
  21. Do you live in Chicago in the winter? It sucks. This year is basically as good as it has ever been and its still in the 30s every day. Living in that climate isn't appealing to a lot of people, professional athletes included. There are plenty of people who could be more successful or make more money in Chicago or Minnesota or Canada, but they choose to live in the South due to the weather. It's not that hard to follow.
  22. It's a haven for cougars. Not the animals.
  23. Agreed. I don't agree with the entire post, but I think the NFL is a crappy product and not bc of whether Bradshaw should take a knee. It happens to be played on the weekends during the winter, and includes violence and often cheerleaders. It's popularity isn't tied directly to the quality of the product on the field. The only reason to watch an NFL game not involving your team is gambling (fantasy football or real actual gambling). It's not a great product, but it is very entertaining. Every team is basically within 2 or 3 games of each other with a few exceptions. Also, there is less variety in offensive/defensive systems than there is in college football where a seemingly random terrible game can be entertaining because some team runs a ridiculous option offense or they have 3 corners that are better than everyone else in college football. Finally, the playoffs are a crapshoot in all sports, but especially in the NFL. The top teams are "rewarded" with a week off, even though that might not always be the best thing for them. If they played 15 games (one versus every team in their conference) and then just went immediately to the Super Bowl, it would be more "fair" but also a lot less entertaining and eternally less lucrative.
  24. Might be a good idea to have the Cubans start in a warm weather city to build confidence. Not to go all Dusty on it, but these guys aren't used to the cold and starting at Peoria and having to deal with the bad weather may be a confidence killer.
  25. Somewhere, the trade Kane crowd is thinking this: THATS WHY HE HASNT SCORED ANY GOALS, CUZ HES BEEN TOO BUSY PLANNING THIS SUPERMAN BIZ. TRADE HIM! HE DIDNT EVEN HIT ANYBODY IN THE ALL STAR GAME!!!!! I do not think anything like this would happen, but would you consider trading Kane for Getzlaf and a 2nd round pick? Maybe even see if you can get Selanne thrown in the deal somehow? Getzlaf is a true center who usually performs well in the playoffs. Plus getting off Anaheim would have to have a positive effect on his performance. Truth be told I don't think Kane has ever been as good as Getzlaf was a few years ago. Getting him and a high draft pick seems plausible. Plus it still leaves the Hawks room and bodies to pick up a top 4 defenseman. Basically, as a Wings fan I would be much more afraid of the Hawks with Getzlaf than I would with Kane. I am not saying the Hawks should trade Kane, I think they should be open to it if the right kind of move came around. Why John McDonough may not be on board with that plan http://deadspin.com/5880445/ From a hockey perspective, it makes sense. From a marketing perspective, it probably doesn't. I think the Hawks are re-established enough at this point to not worry about the fan backlash when it comes to making hockey moves, but it better work in the form of several rounds of playoff wins over the next couple of years. If not, it has a chance to be a decades long debate on whether addressing possibly short term hockey needs was worth letting go one of the most popular players in the NHL, a guy who was the #1 pick, co-led the resurgence of the entire franchise, scored the franchise's first Cup winning goal in 49 years, is/was the guy who took a lot of the media/PR load off of The Captain and a guy who will probably go on to a pretty long and successful NHL career. A fascinating debate and one that speaks to the overall goal of professional sports in this era. I'd like to hear others' thoughts on it.
