  1. I was at that game and will never forget it for several reasons. The lightning and reported tornado west of the stadium. Also, my father-in-law was at a suite for work, so he got me from the seats into the suite. I drank at least 6 to 8 beers during the delay and laughed at all of the people who were running through the rain. At one point, someone left the suite to go to the bathroom. When he opened the door to come back in, the rain/wind was coming so hard, it virtually flooded the suite because it was very hard to close the door with the wind. Everyone else left because they were on a bus trip and had a designated leaving time. I stayed with 1 other guy who lived within walking distance and kept drinking. Rain stopped, they resumed the game, I chugged 1 more beer and walked home. I know. Great story.
  2. This is amazing. I hate the South Loop arena possibility and was very disappointed that DePaul seemed to be going through with this as their first option. Didn't make sense to see. Hope there is something to this but from what I've read there are probable environmental issues on that site that could take years to clear up. Unfortunately, due to the environmental factors, NIMBYs driving up cost to make it a multi-multi use facility with everything under the sun, and my complete lack of faith in the current School and Athletic Department administration, I doubt this happens. But, if it does, they could also use this project to enhance their training facilities and even incorporate high end housing/studying/eating area for the players which could help kill it in recruiting. Without exaggerating, they could go from the worst facilities in the Big East to the best if they can get this done with a huge commitment. Unfortunately, they'll probably end up sharing the South Loop arena and being the 2nd tenant behind the Chicago Sky or something.
  3. This, also knowing it's possible Boozer/Noah break Wade's or Lebron's face I'd like to play the Heat also...in the Eastern Conference Finals.
  4. DePaul arena search takes an interesting, and potentially awesome, turn. Finally concrete information that there is interest in the Finkl steel plant at Armitage/Clybourn/Southport. It's about a 15 minute walk from campus and right off of the Kennedy and convenient to the Metra and a couple of bus lines. Would have to be a multi use facility (retail, housing, open space) to make financial and neighborhood sense and there would be environmental issues, but this is an opportunity for a game changer. Probably the best semi-realistic option they have (Sheffield and Fullerton is NOT going to ever happen). http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-04-16/business/chi-depaul-in-early-talks-with-a-finkl-for-arena-site-20130416_1_mccormick-place-depaul-university-site
  5. For this team right now the difference of having a great closer could be 5 games, maybe a few more tops. Absolutely no reason to spend any more money on a retread closer for this year. Makes much more sense to try to work Marmol in to up his value(if that's even possible) and to see if Fujikawa can do the job or not. If that fails, 3rd choice would be to see if there is anyone on the that can possibly be the guy. Exactly. If Marmol and Fujukawa suck again and Russell is still killing it, give him a chance in the 2nd half of the season. No need to play matchups and [expletive] up the rest of the bullpen the next 3 months.
  6. You need to invest in a closer when there are games that are actually important to close (late season in a pennant race and the playoffs). For any team that is knowingly going to suck to spend any amount of money on a guy to strictly close games is a foolish use of $. Really, all closers are a waste of $ because that should be a position that is relatively easy to use a homegrown guy or a guy who is relatively unknown.
  7. There is a VIP gate? Can all season ticket holders use these, even 500 level?
  8. Castro with two pathetic efforts in clutch situations so far this homestand. Not going to help him with the Rozner's and Kapman's of the world.
  9. Valbuena and Lillibridge can go ahead and die already. Seriously, though, how can Vitters and anyone else be any worse.
  10. Why do they schedule 10:35am (Pittsburgh time) games on a weekday? Well that was just awesome. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/52/Back_to_the_future.jpg/220px-Back_to_the_future.jpg
  11. They might have to wait longer than that. 10 teams is ideal for basketball (18 games, true home and home with everyone). Yeah, I hope the new Big East sticks with 10. They won't, of course. SLU and Dayton are probably going to the Big East in '14-'15. Agreed. I think they actually have to go to 12 to get the full $600 million. I think it was $500 million if they remain at 10 teams.

  13. I don't think it would be a disgrace to the team at all. I think the city would be the ones in disgrace for not being able to work out a deal with an owner who is willing to foot the entire bill for the project. Having a stadium butting up against O'Hare would blow. There are multiple runways within a couple hundreds yards of the described location. It would also likely cost the team roughly $1B to build a new stadium worth building, even if they get the land for free. Yeah, playing at a stadium across from the airport and a shopping wall would basically be turning your back on the very reason anyone gives a damn about the shitty franchise for the past 40 years. Now, could you argue that's what they need? Sure, but why can't they have a new philosophy while maintaining their uniqueness?
  14. Apparently the location is the west side of I-294 at Balmoral. Directly across the Tollway from the new Outlet Mall that is under construction, the new B1G Headquarters, and the new entertainment district (Movies, Bowling, restaurants, ice skating, etc) and it is adjacent to the Rosemont Metra Station and next to the softball diamond. This location would be about a mile or so from the Rosemont Blue Line stop. Allegedly, Rosemont is offering 25 acres to the team for free. I would assume it is the triangle shaped part of land on the Southwest Corner of I-294 and Balmoral and would also assume that all of those warehouses that are currently there would be part of the deal, allowing the Cubs to build whatever buildings they want, although a lot of it would probably have to be used for parking. Link to map: https://www.google.com/maps?q=i-294+and+balmoral,+rosemont,+il&hl=en&ll=41.97503,-87.868438&spn=0.01809,0.038581&sll=39.739318,-89.266507&sspn=9.575225,19.753418&t=h&hnear=Balmoral+Ave+%26+Interstate+294,+Leyden,+Cook,+Illinois&z=15 It would pretty much suck and be a disgrace to the team, but if it helps them get what they want and make Tom Tunney risk losing the Cubs and, basically all of his Ward's sales tax revenue in the process, good for them.
  15. Apparently Crean showed up for the press conference at 1:37AM, more than 2 hours after the game ended. What a dickbag.
  16. Yep, trophy city. Along those lines, did anyone think that celebration was a bit over the top? It's not like he broke any records or hit any big milestone. Great, he played a lot of games. It's not like he's on some retirement going away party. I know that's just McDonough being McDonough and pandering to the idiots, but 1,000 game celebration, particularly for a guy who played 3/4 of those games on other teams just seemed like a bit much. Whatever, Hossa rules anyway. This season is awesome.
  17. Or a serviceable #2 if LeBron or Kobe is on the team.
  18. Chiefs tag Albert, sign Bowe (WR) and Colquitt (P) to long term extensions. KC could be interesting next year.
  19. Marmol could be a good one year fix for them while they give Rondon the year as a set up guy. Marmol for Porcello? I'm in.
  20. And Tiger is 5 holes from missing the cut (projected line is E, he is +1). Awesome.
  21. I think we all know the answer to this. Because of the media circus? Because, baseball wise, this fits their plan to sign every injured guy who has a chance to make it look like a good investment. A strategy that I am completely on board with.
  22. What happens if they go to 32 with a 2nd Toronto area franchise and Quebec? Do they move Detroit and Columbus back and call it a day? Or just move Tampa and Florida to Seattle and Kansas City?
  23. Hasn't Dusty fucked him over enough? Maybe he's there to exact his revenge? Why wouldn't the Cubs have offered this? http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/2013/03/01/mark-prior-in-camp-with-the-reds/
  24. LOL @ this. That stadium is a joke. That's a bit harsh. What makes it a joke? Nevertheless, there is no way it should be ranked even in the top 30. I think the writer must be amalgamating the Grove (which is generally considered the best tailgate experience) with the stadium itself. That's the only explanation. Or it's possible he just looked at pretty coeds the whole time in the stadium. It's called "Stadium Experience Rankings" and in the article specifically states that the tailgating is the reason it is on the list. "Our rankings of the stadium experiences are based on considering many aspects of the stadium experience including food and beverage served, overall atmosphere, the neighborhood, fans, access to and within the stadium, and overall return on investment."
