  1. Exactly. If this game is so serious, then giving the MVP to the guy who pitched the 8th inning makes no sense. Keep up the good work, Bud, you douche.
  2. Who has denied that? Everyone who was saying that the current OF are better and that OF like him are on the FA market every year.
  3. BRING BACK STEROIDS!!!
  4. The amount of rope that Theo/Jed/Ricketts are getting and the number of people who are comfortable sucking and continually wasting seasons is amazing. Cespedes will turn "30" right after the last season of his contract in 2015. The Cubs should at least be competitive in 2015. I am extremely comfortable saying Cespedes will have better WAR than any of the Cubs current or future OF in 2014 and 2015. It's OK to say that Theo/Jed/Ricketts missed/were cheap on this one transaction. This isn't passing on a 35 year old OF who would have contributed significantly in 2012 and 2013, years where every sane Cubs fan has conceded that they would suck. To already be conceding 2014 AND 2015 as years where the Cubs are going to be terrible is, quite frankly, one of the problems with the fanbase. Cespedes will be an excellent player those years and could have helped the Cubs win. It's OK to admit that.
  5. [expletive] YOU, THEO. Yep. No excuse for missing/being cheap on Cespedes.

    Castro

No one, probably, but that will show how absolutely putrid his first part of the season was. To have a .810 OPS over roughly 70 games and still finish at or below .700 OPS for the season is tough to do. Also, if he weren't locked up in a long term deal, it would have helped the Cubs arbitration case immensely.

    Castro

Absolutely. If he puts up 300/360/450 the rest of the way, his numbers will be in the .265/.310/390 range overall for the year, finishing with a .700 OPS.
  8. The goal is the same size though the depth of the net *might* be different. They've discussed making the NHL net 6" shallower to give more room to play behind it. European rinks look huge in comparison to what we're used to seeing NHL teams play on. I believe the net depth proposal you are talking about was approved last month by the league. It was and it's a great idea. Nothing lamer than being caught up on the net going for a wraparound or to get a loose puck. Only negative is that there might be a lot more video reviews as the puck tends to whiz in and out of those shallower nets pretty quickly.
  9. Kind of like the other lights already at Wrigley? Seriously. [expletive] him. The Cubs should have him throw out the first pitch the day after this thing is signed just so the fans can boo his dumb ass. What a complete douche.

    Rizzo

With what they are paying Castro and Rizzo, they aren't expecting them to be the best players on the team. I still expect at least 1 mega free agent deal sometime in the next 2 offseasons. Who that will be is a mystery as there aren't likely too many big stars coming to free agency, especially hitters. What they are paying them has nothing to do with anything. Their salaries are based strictly on what each party's negotiating position was at the time of the deal. No, but I think that Mike Trout or someone like that would have gotten a whole hell of a lot more than Castro and Rizzo did. If they can be slightly above league average at their positions throughout the length of their cost-certain contracts, it will still be a bargain for the Cubs and allow them to go out and spend big at other positions. If they have to slightly overpay for David Price or Robinson Cano or Chase Headley in the next couple of years, then whatever...assuming the minor league guys continue to develop.
  11. Sounds like the Cubs got dominated there, no? You don't ask for what you want when it comes to business negotiations. You ask for more than what you want knowing you will have to negotiate down. Agreed. And the 6k really would have been obnoxious. I was at the game last night and due to the score really spent some time looking at it. If it would have been 3x the size of the scoreboard, it would have really taken away from the scoreboard and the rest of the stadium. Honestly, I'm glad it is 4500...unless that extra space would have been profitable enough to change the baseball budget. The other sign is going to look pretty big as well. Now I just wish it wasn't going to be 4+ years of a half assed experience at Wrigley. I still wish they could have closed it down and played at the Cell/Milwaukee for 1 year, worked around the clock for 18 months and gotten it done, but oh well.

  13. Sounds like a deal has basically been reached. Final compromises: Jumbotron: 4,500 feet (Cubs wanted 6k, Tunney wanted 4k, current scoreboard is ~2k) Right Field Sign: 650 feet stationary--similar to current Toyota sign (Cubs wanted 10k & moving, Tunney wanted less) Fireworks: There will be no fireworks or pyrotechnics allowed Sounds like a win-win to me. 6k would have been enormous. http://www.suntimes.com/21256243-761/extra-inning-wrigley-compromise-2-signs-shrink-fireworks-snuffed.html
  14. Why isn't he just the backup? Would like to get him some experience before they let Crawford go after next season. Bulin seems unnecessary.
  15. VOTE damnit Any idea when voting ends? Can't they just sub in Baez for Soler and then Correa can win the fan vote?
  16. Going on Sunday. Crappy pitching matchup (Jackson vs. Bonderman), but really looking forward to the stadium and the city. Will be there Sat-Tue. Any specific recommendations?
  17. In this league, where you don't have 6 years to exploit a young player's cheapness like MLB, and where guys can become free agents relatively early, the Blackhawks have a bigger need to maintain the pipeline of younger talent than holding onto overpaid 3rd line centers. Bolland was absolute trash all year until he scored 1 lucky goal with 58 seconds left. If Frolik's redirect went in, no one would even think about Bolland. He was outstanding in 2010 playoffs and the 2011 season. Was actually OK last year, but complete garbage this year. Not that +/- is everything, but he was a -7 in the regular season on a team that lost 7 games. That's hard to do.
  18. He's by far the biggest douche in this whole thing. He conned LeBron into coming down there and carrying him to 2 titles so far. LeBron could have won basically anywhere, including shitty Cleveland eventually. Wade is just a passenger. And a douche.
  19. Baez still will get one or two more AB's this game. But if he finishes hitless, it will be 9 games ago since his last hit in play. That's hilarious. 32 PA, .208/.406/.833, .000 BABIP It's like Adam Dunn's wet dream.
  20. Damn. I'm going Sunday. May have to get tix to Sat too. I'll be at the game on Sunday with my family. Assuming you are from the area by your username, I have a quick question: will it be impossible to get a table at the Pyramid Brewpub after the game. We will have a baby with us that complicates matters, so we would need a normal table, not just a hightop or something like that. I'm assuming higher than normal attendance b/c of a Cubs game on a Sunday, so I'd say it'll be pretty difficult unless you leave the game early. If you're able to go downtown instead, you should, if nothing else bc there are more and better places. Ok, thanks!

  22. Myke Henry to DePaul. Will sit out this year for transferring. Would have been a great get for DePaul 2 years ago, so I'll take it.
  23. How did MLB not schedule Dodgers @ Yankees before now? Were they waiting for all of the Brooklyn fans to die?
  24. There are roughly 500 bars within a 10 minute walk from the stadium. God forbid you watch it there and miss 2 innings.
  25. Finished at 129. High school and college coaches are the absolute worst.
