  1. Yep, it makes sense for Briggs to try to pick this fight now though. He's not gonna get primo money if he waits till the deal is done. Then maybe he shouldn't have signed it in the first place. Hey Lance, have fun sitting out the next 3 years if you don't get a new contract. I'm pretty sure that Soldier Field will still be full whether or not you and your over-inflated tackle numbers are there or not. Stuff like this is what sucks about the NFL. I know the players take the risk with no guaranteed contracts and it sucks for them, but complaining and trying to negotiate with 3 years left on a market value contract when only like 2 teams had any interest when you were an unrestricted free agent 3 years ago? [expletive] off.
  2. Big Flats also there's now Big Flats Light.
  3. I'm officially excited about Zeke. He may be Juan Pierre, but with a good obp, and that is very valuable, especially when cheap and under team control. Almost like a Reggie Willits from a few years ago.
  4. For the most part, Lee didn't seem to have an issue. Or Marlon Byrd. Mark Prior, however, did. I think the scapegoats tend to originate from players that aren't open with the media, as the beat writers and columnists are often the ones who start these crusades. I totally agree. But there does seem to be a recent and growing anti-Latino bent. I think it's a pale reflection of the general mood of the country. But Soriano, for all of his suckitude, has actually remained out of the cross hairs. I think its because he's generally a freindly guy and gives interviews to everyone. He also actually tries pretty hard most of the time (the occasional thrown out after watching a long fly ball excepted). Also, everyone loves Pena and most like Soto. I think it's just a general media crusade towards guys that they don't perceive as trying very hard (Ramirez and the stupid Castro article here or there) or that are just hard headed and dumb (Z).
  5. Seriously. How [expletive] hard is it to field your position at pitcher?
  6. The lockout isn't the first time that the Kansas payroll was higher than some NBA teams...
  7. True, but what hurt can it do to claim him and spend a few minutes on the phone? Who knows, with the Mets terrible financial situation, maybe the cost would be a lot less than you would think. Perhaps interested teams spent those few minutes on the phone BEFORE deciding whether to put in a claim, and found out it would be a waste of time. Entirely possible.
  8. And people are wondering why Mike Flanagan killed himself...

  10. Wright cleared waivers according to MLB trade rumors. Kind of surprising no one claimed him. $15 million next year and a $16 million club option for 2013 that voids if he gets traded. Not that the Mets would have let him go, but that he went unclaimed is kind of surprising. Why wouldn't the Brewers try to get him to be next year's Prince replacement and to take at bats away from good human/bad baseball player Casey McGehee? Or some of the other teams with terrible 3B situations? Detroit, etc...
  11. I'm glad the Cubs signed a couple of fatties who can actually hit instead of "toolsy" athletes who suck at baseball.
  12. I thought the offense actually looked pretty good. Roy Williams was terrible and Davis dropped a ball, but Cutler looked very good, the RBs were fine, and the o-line was actually NFL caliber. If Hester doesn't fall down and that punt isn't blocked, it's 13-10 at halftime. Not terrible. The defense looked bad, but Peppers got some pressures and they were playing without Briggs. Dave Toub probably killed a guy with a trident at halftime. The ST was terrible!
  13. Failure to comply with the mandatory drinking and driving team policy.
  14. Rock Shoulders just passed Rebel Ridling for most awesome name in the system. Congrats Rock!
  15. Soriano got a triple earlier? What the hell happened? Did the outfielder break his leg or something?
  16. No, he's pretty close to being done. Next year is the make or break year. If he stays healthy, wins a few tournaments and/or a major, he could have a chance at the record. If not, it's one of the strangest and most precipitous declines in the history of sports. Either way, he won't be the Tiger of 1997-2007 ever again.
  17. Marlon Byrd must have gone out drinking to celebrate his 1,000th career hit or something. No excuse to have Campana and Colvin in there when Hill and DeWitt are in. Ugh.
  18. If his dog died and he broke up with his girlfriend, he'd have a nice country song for last week. That's brutal.
  19. Please take Michael Orris before we get stuck with him. Creighton can have him. I'd rather roll the scholarship to 2013 and pray we can land some more good recruits.
  20. Perfect answer. That is why picking up Ramirez' option is almost a no brainer at this point. We're not going to be able to upgrade offensively over Aramis at either 3B or 2B. Keep Aramis, platoon the 3 amigos mentioned above, and spend the money on pitching and 1B.

    Walks

A very telling stat. Also, the Yankees swept the White Sox in a 4 game series without issuing a walk. First time since 1968 and only the 3rd time since 1900 anyone has done it in baseball!
  22. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/08/free-agent-stock-watch-jimmy-rollins.html Would the Cubs have any interest in Rollins as a 2B? Especially if Aramis leaves, maybe? I think he's probably on the verge of a serious decline, but I've always enjoyed him as a player. He can still steal a bag or two and provides good power and defense in the middle infield and could be a good mentor for Castro. Any interest?
  23. Top 100 DePaul freshman Shane Larkin, son of Barry Larkin, has left the team due to a "medical issue" that requires him to be closer to his family in Florida. Not specified if it is his issue or a family medical issue. It's probably legitimate because they released him instead of making him transfer and sit out a year. The lesson, as always, being a DePaul fan SUCKS.
  24. The SEC East sucks this year, though. As it did last year when the Gamecocks made the title game. Urban Meyer quitting has helped the Old Ballcoach out quite a bit.
  25. More the patience than the power. If he can get to a .400 OBP, he'll get there once or twice. For reference, Derek Jeter OPSd over .900 twice in his career and also had a .896, .871, .864 and .858. Now, his OBP was much higher than Castro has shown, but Castro is on pace for more extra base hits this year than Jeter had in any of his first 3 years until his ridiculous 1999 (.989 OPS from SS!!).
