  1. Drew a walk last night too. Are the Brewers [expletive] or is his eye getting better? After watching a few of his other at bats, I'm going with the former.
  2. I understand that Garza's peripherals are outstanding, but it would be nice for him to, you know, actually not give up any [expletive] runs once in a while.
  3. Maybe he should change his name to Private Parts.
  4. And this guy would have probably started for the Cubs.
  5. That's what she said...
  6. Fair point. It's just hard for me to believe that it's him being afraid to take over. Nothing about that makes sense. That's exactly why he is so polarizing. He has all the talent in the world and everyone basically WANTS him to be as close to Jordan as possible so we CAN have those discussions. Problem is, every time he's on the big stage with a chance to prove it, he's failed (with the exception of that one game vs. the Pistons where he played like God). The whole situation is really mind boggling. If he played to his physical potential (which would only be possible if he had a different or changed mental makeup), he could be as good or better than Jordan, Kobe, etc..., but he hasn't yet and it just makes no sense.
  7. They're pretty good at cranking out young pitchers and trading them or letting them walk before the wheels fall off. I wonder who will trade a bunch of prospects for Trevor Cahill a year before his arm falls off. They missed the boat on Brett Anderson. He's likely to get TJS soon as he's on his 2nd visit to Dr. Andrews this week. He's still really young though, just turned 23 Agreed, but paying for him last year means they're devoting a significant amount of money (for them) to a guy who won't contribute the rest of this year and most of next year. Stuff like that kills the whole "moneyball" philosophy. Hell, you could argue that paying Eric Chavez instead of Tejada or Giambi cost them a playoff run or two. When the resources are limited, the margin of error is a lot less.

  9. Why not bring in another midget receiver, he'll fit right in!
  10. There was some story about a guy who turned down $1M+ and is now working at Costco changing tires. Moron.
  11. What's the worst possible realistic punishment? I'm thinking a 2 year postseason ban and a reduction in scholarships for 2-3 years would be the worst thing the NCAA would dare give them. That would be what USC got, I think they will be getting a little worse than that. I would think a bit more. Seems like they have more on the school in this case, but the actions are a bit less blatant (Weren't Bush's violations in the million dollar range?). It would be great if it were more scholarships taken away and a 3-4 year post season ban, but I don't think the NCAA has the balls.
  12. So because Jordan had 1 bad game about 2 months after not playing basketball for 18 months, LeBron will win 6 championships and develop a killer instinct? Got it.
  13. Offense around the league has sucked the fat one. I realized this when voting for the All Star team the other day. Problem is, we have had at least 3 spots in the rotation that have sucked all season and the bullpen has been extremely average. Defense and baserunning have been pretty poor as well.

  15. What about the waiver process? Obviously we would let anyone just take Soriano's contract, but what about Zambrano, Kosuke, Pena (who I think will be dealt anyway), Byrd, Dempster, or Aramis? I'd almost be willing to just let any of them go for nothing to get out of the contracts, although I'm pretty sure we could actually get someone back for Pena, Byrd, Kosuke, and possibly Dempster.
  16. Goes well with the fact that the Big League club isn't likely to contend for another 2 years. They're drafting for upside instead of a guy who could be up and very average in the next year or so. From what I've read, the Cubs appear to be doing a decent job in the draft so far. They can't be doing that great if they havent drafted any cubans yet. I prefer my Cubans illegally smuggled, not drafted.

  18. USC stripped of 04 BCS Championship. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=6632190
  19. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/5743638-417/darwin-barney-is-why-you-should-keep-watching-the-cubs.html What a load of crap. I hate baseball writers and their stupid traditions. He's a good player because he is making $500k and producing at an OK level. End of story. NOT a "reason to keep watching the Cubs".
  20. LOL MLB. I'm sure Mark Cuban would have never landed on this list...for any of the franchises, not just the Cubs.
  21. Another thing to think about is that Monta Ellis is about as a bad a fit you can find for Derrick's style. Dominates the ball, takes too many shots, high usage rate etc. Isn't that what everyone said about LeBron and Wade?
  22. It doesn't matter if he said it, just as long as he's not stupid enough to believe it. Because only a complete freaking moron would think it's true. So basically you think Ricketts has done everything right the past 18 months? Good to know. The Hayden Simpson pick, retaining Hendry, completely [expletive] up the asking for public money to fix Wrigley, Todd appearing on Undercover Boss and looking like a moron, and now pretending that injuries are the only thing wrong with this awful team is OK with you? Huh? That was more for the snarky comment about us "being on the same page as Rosenbloom". I hate the guy, but he hit this one on the head.

  24. What about Monta Ellis? Would GS and their new GM, Jerry West, deal him? Would Noah and a few #1 picks be enough to get him? Rose, Ellis, Deng, Boozer, Asik Taj, Thomas still on the bench for the frontcourt Still have Brewer and Korver as well.
  25. Yeah, one of the best and most accurate Rosenbloom columns ever. Ricketts is really starting to worry me. If he doesn't clean house after this season, we're in for a long decade.
