  1. Even in Cincy, some of the fans gave him the business, there was a sign that said "Mike, we gave you the bunt sign, NOT the steal sign" Good times. This moron deserves it. Credit to him for getting the win, though.
  2. Maybe they feel that the economy is coming back and that they're getting an extremely team friendly deal by avoiding that awkward contract when he's like 33 and clearly going downhill. Still, 10 years is a really long time to be paying anyone a guaranteed amount of money, especially for a small-mid market team.
  3. I don't think I like this idea. For reference, the amount of #1 & 2 seeds in the NCAAs that lost in the first 2 rounds of the 48 team era (byes) was much higher than the instance now (except Kansas obviously :D ) There's something counter intuitive about giving a team extra rest as its some sort of blessing. These guys are creatures of habit and the team that wins the wild card round would have a lot more momentum coming into a series, pitching matchups notwithstanding. If they go back to 154 games (ideally a lot less, but that'll never happen), however, then I'm in support of this idea. I'd rather watch an extra round of playoffs than a bunch of awful games in April and September.
  4. And Brandon Roy has been, by far, the worst player in the playoffs according to PER. #147 out of 147. Ouch. Keith Bogans has been awful as well (in the 130s).
  5. Maybe if we get 2-3 runs before his spot comes up in the order he would think about it.
  6. I have to think the double switch was done with the intention of letting Marshall pitch more. If Marshall doesn't start and finish the 8th inning, Quade is a moron.
  7. Good thing it took 3 pitchers and taking our best Homerun threat out of the game to escape the 7th inning of Game 1 of a freaking doubleheader.
  8. Is it too much to ask for a manager who can accurately manage a bullpen? I swear no one in the Major Leagues can do it.
  9. Wow, huge play right there. Nice job avoiding the Dempster inning there, Garza.
  10. He won't be hitting 6th. or 5th He certainly won't be hitting 3rd. We have Marlon Byrd!
  11. Its gonna be sweet next year when Pujols hits a 3 run double in that situation.
  12. It's not just power-hitting outfielders. Between Girardi debuting during the tail end of 1989 and Soto playing a game in 2005, who was the best position player to come up through the Cubs' system to actually play for the Cubs? Doug Glanville? Corey Patterson? Ryan Theriot? Carlos Zambrano? Kidding. Highest career OPS by hitters who came up through the Cubs system since 89ish min 400 career PA including Walton and pre Soto. .788, 100 OPS+ Matt Murton .786, 106 OPS+ Hee Seop Choi .755, 102 OPS+ Dwight Smith .746, 89 OPS+ Brant Brown .742, 100 OPS+ Rick Wilkins .730, 88 OPS+ Ozzie Timmons .719, 87 OPS+ Roosevelt Brown .717, 92 OPS+ Derrick May .709, 85 OPS+ Kevin Orie .708, 92 OPS+ Jerome Walton .704, 83 OPS+ Ryan Theriot .697, 80 OPS+ Corey Patterson .695, 78 OPS+ Doug Glanville .693, 83 OPS+ Bobby Hill .666, 72 OPS+ Joe Girardi And I left a few out... That's [expletive] pathetic
  13. Sounds like he's picking Auburn. I'm sure his parents are about $180,000 richer...
  14. Please tell me this is on Comcast as well.
  15. To be honest with you, John Scott didn't play too poorly. He had some hits and didn't blow any big defensive assignments. He had an open shot and put it on net, but didn't score. I'd be more worried about Marian Hossa missing in action and Duncan Keith allowing that guy to get behind him for the 2nd goal.
  16. Sigging this Sweet! I appreciate it, I was pretty proud of it.
  17. McRoberts should join the Charles Smith support group for guys who got their weak [expletive] blocked by the Bulls at the end of a playoff game they should have won. [expletive] you Pacers!
  18. You don't enjoy watching Matt Garza give up 12 runs on the fuzzy channel?
  19. Marcos Mateo. Pretty good so far. If he keeps this up, Mateo/Marshall/Wood/Marmol is a pretty damn good way to end the game. Save Samardzija and Grabow and Russell for the blowouts. Russell for LOOGY work, maybe.
  20. Hawks dominating since 3 minutes left in the 2nd. This is going to be a series, but way too many missed chances to win this game.
  21. Maybe a good time to give Castro his first day off. Quade went a different way with it. 1. Starlin Castro ® SS 2. Darwin Barney ® 2B 3. Marlon Byrd ® CF 4. Aramis Ramirez ® 3B 5. Jeff Baker ® 1B 6. Geovany Soto ® C 7. Alfonso Soriano ® LF 8. Tyler Colvin (L) RF 9. Carlos Zambrano (S) P Really tiring of Barney at the top of the order. Should start Baker and then Castro, unless Quade has decided to keep Starlin at the top forever.
  22. Apparently Cliff Pennington of the A's missed a few games with an infected sweat gland. First of all, I don't know how that happens. Second of all, Stoney had a nice line of the Sox broadcast: "I've avoided that problem by not doing anything to cause me to sweat." Even though he's a douche, Stoney is still a pretty entertaining broadcaster.
  23. Walk around the stadium before the game. The Bay is awesome if the weather is nice. Go see the McCovey statue. Don't eat beforehand, the food at the stadium is awesome (Lobster rolls, crab cakes, sushi, really anything you'd want). It's a glorious experience! I was there for Maddux's 300th win and I think Nomar had like 12 hits in the series. Good times.
  24. Thomas Diamond still sucks. Let's hope Wells is back soon because that #5 slot could be a guaranteed loss for a while if he's not.
  25. It doesn't sound like it's likely at all that Fukudome will be available for anything but pinch-hitting duty for several days. That's a big loss. Our best OBP guy and best defensive outfielder going into the cavernous outfield in Colorado.
