  1. Really big ten? That's the logo at midcourt for your conference tourney? Lame.
  2. I liked Castro until I found out he was going to hit 22 HR with the White Sox. Yeah, I wonder what kind of death threats Castro will have to receive from Cubs fans to go the White Sox and then the Cardinals after a 13 year, 2000 hit stint with the Cubs. Maybe he is being predicted to make an error to lose the World Series or something.
  3. Finally got around to ordering from that website (2 Hawks jerseys). Full report to come whenever (if?) these jerseys come in. I'm a jersey snob, so I'll give a pretty thorough report.
  4. On a bad Missouri Valley team.
  5. I'm fully on board unless he continues his unnecessary support for Silva.
  6. You guys will both have plenty of time to discuss this on the 2nd weekend when the big boys are still playing. Can we get back to the important stuff about this week? Like the Sun Belt semifinals tonight?
  7. So they can get a mid afternoon CBS time slot and not compete with the Big 12 and Big 10 tournaments. Pretty good idea. Arch Madness is one of the more profitable mid-major tourneys as I remember hearing on one of the selection shows.
  8. Silva says most of the right things. Disputes that he was getting into it with someone else and says it was just him and Ram. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2011/03/cubs-silva-gives-his-side-of-scuffle-with-ramirez.html
  9. See, I'd say the opposite. Their lack of depth could hurt during the regular season, but all of the stars play pretty much the whole game in the playoffs and their best 5 is probably better than everyone else's best 5.
  10. 110 miles away? Good god
  11. I was looking at some recruiting stuff last night and DePaul has a bunch of offers out to top players. Stephens had ties to Purdue and Weber so I think it was always going to be one of the two. Is DePaul ever going to get an arena on campus? Have you ever been to Lincoln Park? Not happening unless they want to buy about 100 multi million dollar properties, have them rezoned, and have a bunch of millionaires agree to it. Maybe something by the Kennedy between North and Fullerton, but not technically on campus. Yeah, I used to live in Lincoln Park... "The Finkl Steel Company is relocating to the south side of Chicago and their current location at Clybourn and Cortland is within walking distance of DePaul's Lincoln Park campus. An 8,000-10,000 seat arena is something that the university higher ups are considering. Real estate experts that I contacted today told me that the Finkl property is intriguing because it may not be suitable for residential use due to In addition, a recent post in a Chicago real estate blog TheChicago77.com discussed the Finkl property as it relates to DePaul University. The site says: The Finkl & Sons site is located on the east bank of The Chicago River at Southport Ave, and Cortland Street within steps of DePaul's main campus and due to its heavy industrial use over the past 100 years the site is believed to be to contaminated for many real estate re adaptations. So it seems the current thinking is that instead of removing all the over-sized foundations so closely positioned by the rivers edge that it might be far simpler and safer to just remove all the top soil, pave over the site and any possible contamination." http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/david-kaplan-chicago-sports/depaul-basketball/#ixzz1E2pdXsSq I just never heard anything else about this... WOAH Believe me, I would LOVE for that to happen, but according to a few university officials, it's not really on the table at the current time. That is the best possible chance for anything close to an on-campus arena (Children's Hospital NOT happening because of traffic and NIMBY concerns) but it appears that DePaul is not willing to put forth the financial commitment at the current time. Between that lack of commitment (besides the coach) and terrible play, the impending boot from the Big East is inevitable. I think these are the final years of DePaul being anything more in hoops than Loyola or UIC. I really hope I'm wrong.
  12. I'm sure that DePaul didn't really have a strong shot of getting him, but damn you for stealing him away from DePaul. We need him a lot more than you! Maybe something by the Kennedy between North and Fullerton, but not technically on campus. To me the solution is getting them into the city ala St. Johns. I'm not sure how favorable their lease is at Allstate, but I think playing at the UC would help that program immensely. They have one of the most favorable leases of all time at Allstate. They make money on a near empty building. They would lose six figures every game if they played to their average "crowd" at the UC. If they ever get really good again, they would probably think about moving a few games to the UC. But that's probably not going to happen.
  13. Would Pujols take a contract that is 10 years, $250 million plus a $50 million cash bonus if his new team won the World Series? Let's say they win it the first year, that's more like an extra $100 million or so over the 10 years.

  15. Five words: Jean Lenti Ponsetto Jerry Wainwright
  16. Wow. They're REALLY trying to save as much as possible off the roster's salary for this year. I really hope it's heading into the system. It's also not a terrible idea with the economy coming back. I'm sure the Ricketts know what they're doing investing wise and the time value of money says that paying less up front isn't exactly a bad thing if you can make up that money with your investments. That being said, almost $10 million in the 3rd year could be disastrous if Carlos gets injured.
  17. Deng should have been an all star this year. Gasol nudges out Kobe. Wow, really? I expected Durant to be a little higher, too. And good lord is LeBron a beast. Rose and CP3 playing unbelievable and LeBron just owning them in the stats.
  18. The cubs wouldn't have drafted Hamilton due to character concerns. The hamilton trade was the offseason of the bad guy purge. And the same regime gave Milton Bradley $30 million guaranteed. Pick a lane, Hendry.
  19. I like how he doesn't bring up radio and TV ratings, which are actually a much more important sign than actual stadium attendance: Cubs TV: 9th in MLB (for a team that sucked all year) Cubs Radio: 3rd in MLB (first 1/2 of season only) Sox TV: 17th in MLB (for a team that was in in it until the last few weeks) Sox Radio: 14th in MLB (first 1/2 of season only, less than 1/3rd of listeners as Cubs) But, yeah, Joe, the Sox are Chicago's team and Cubs fans are only fans because they go to Wrigley to drink. Get bent, moron.
  20. All it took was 3 surefire NFL draft picks to win the Texas Bowl. Christ, Zook can't coach.
  21. Improve: Ramirez, Pena, Fuku, Castro (defense), Zambrano, Wells, Cashner, middle relief, manager Maintain: Soriano, Castro (offense), DeWitt/Baker, Soto, Dempster, Samardzjia, Garza Decline: Byrd, Colvin, Koyie Hill (if that's possible), Marshall & Marmol (they'll both still be really good)
  22. Oh, come on, that wasn't that bad. Especially after all of the jokes in the Tiger Woods and Brett Favre threads. Oh well, congrats on the $24MM, Josh. Let's hope you keep your life together because you're one hell of a ballplayer.
