  1. How horrible do you think Manny would be in RF? Or maybe the better option would be to move Murton to RF and keep Manny in LF. 3-4-5 of Lee, M and A Ramirez = holy frigity crap.
  2. Considering we refer to physical chemistry as p chem, it would make sense to call it o chem. Oh well, we're weird. I refer to any math class as the suck-crap hour of stupid suck.....I dont like math.
  3. This is practically my ideal situation. I'd also like to see Izturis and Dempster traded for anything. Lugo possibly signed for SS too, if there's money left. I like Theriot, but I just don't see him continuing his success. Yeah, I dont think Theriot will continue to have numbers like this year, but I think he could definitely be a .270/.340 hitter. And with that lineup we could easily get away with that from the 8 spot. But getting rid of Izturis and signing Lugo would be better if we have the money. My lineup was already pretty unrealistic so I decided not to add Lugo to it.
  4. Lets get Westbrook and Igawa and I'll be a happy man. Then also get Drew and Soriano....ooooh man. Soriano-CF Murton-LF Drew-RF Lee-1B Ramirez-3B Barrett-C DeRosa-2B Theriot-SS Zambrano, Westbrook, Hill, Igawa, Prior/Miller/Marshall
  5. Why would we want Soriano in LF when we could have him in CF or RF and keep Murton and his great value in LF?
  6. Ok, first of all, major league baseball teams pay different players different amounts of money. I know, I know, you're thinking, "but they're all baseball players, shouldnt they get paid the same?" But it doesnt work that way. Matt Murton makes at or close to the league minimum and gives great production for that money and is likely to only get better. Drew has always had an amazing OBP, the thing this team needs the most. I have never seen anyone on here that would not want ARod if he did not cost half our farm system or Zambrano. Same with Manny. Vernon Wells and Soriano, I dont know anyone who wouldnt want them on the team, but it goes back to the fact that different players get paid different amounts of money. And in Wells' case, we would have to give up a lot of talent. Some people wonder if they are worth the money/talent. But Murton does have red hair, you're correct there, keep up the good work.
  7. Is this thing actually close to happening or just speculation at this point. This would be getting pretty ridiculous, Meche is just about the worst option out there.
  8. From rotoworld: Hmmmm...An outfield logjam in Washington they have? Take Church and Kearns we will. This has already been discussed a little bit, but do you think they'd do a Jones/Marshall/Aardsma for Kearns/Church deal or something similar? A Kearns/Church RF platoon with Drew or Soriano in CF would go a long way in filling the offensive void of Iztruris and DeRosa.
  9. From everything I've seen he said he could play 3B, 2B, or CF. From what he's claimed he can play 3B, 2B, or CF. He hasn't played a game of 2B in his career and has all of 29 put outs in the OF. Great marketing ploy for him, but signing him to be your full time 2B when he hasn't played an inning there is a pretty big risk. If DeRosa is the alternative, I take that risk, especially considering we have Theriot on the team who could handle 2B at least adequately.
  10. From everything I've seen he said he could play 3B, 2B, or CF.
  11. Ugh....I'm trying to stay positive and fine the bright side of the Derosa signing....but we could have had Iwamura for what we paid for Derosa. I really hope Hendry has something bigger in mind with this cause right now that just seems kind of ridiculous.
  12. Lets hope that means they wont have enough for Drew. Or maybe we can hope that Drew doesnt like Japanese people.
  13. Thank you, and ndistops. Oh yeah, and ndistops, how about that BSU/ Michigan game. I was way off on that one prediction something like 56-3. That was pretty awesome.
  14. Also....forgive my ignorance, but how do you figure out OPS+? And while I'm looking stupid, same for ERA+?
  15. There is no way that this was a great signing, but we dont know what the thinking is. Maybe the thinking is to have him split time with an aging Durham, or maybe even a somewhat injury prone Drew. Maybe split time with Therior while also starting for Jones against some lefties. 4 million a year is too much, but if used right he could be pretty valuable. I wont say it was a bad signing til we find out for sure what role he'll play, but again, there's no way this was a great deal. If used right, the Cubs are better today than they were yesterday, just not $4 million better.
  16. I'd be severly upset if the Cubs traded Murton. It would be nice to get good production for league minimum out of at least one position on the field. I don't want to trade Murton at all but we all have to agree that right now he probably has the most value. If we trade him for a top of the rotation 2-3 starter, guys like Bonderman, Bedard, Ervin Santanna, Chris Young and Jake Westbrook, I'd have to consider it. If we get Bedard and Carlos Lee I wouldn't complain, wouldn't be my first choice but I could understand the reason for making the deal because it would significantly improve our ballclub next year. I'm not saying that scenario wouldnt help the Cubs, I just hate the idea of loosing Murton. He's my favorite player since Sandberg, and I'm a more sentimental fan than most people here.
  17. Zito isnt great, but he's still much better than any of the 2nd tier alternatives. His career ERA is almost a full point better than the Batistas, Meches, Padillas, and Lillies. Zito and Schmidt are the only FA pitchers that would significantly upgrade our pitching staff. I think trading for Hudson might be a gamble worth taking. I'd also take a look at Igawa and look at a trade for Heilman before going for any of the 2nd Tier FA's. Good post. What about some of the White Sox hurlers? I understand that the Sox really need bullpen help. What about trading Eyre and Wuertz for Vasquez, Garcia, or Buehrle? For how much they make, I dont know how much better they'd be than people like Lilly. I think Hudson and Heilman are safer bets.
  18. I definitely like the idea of going for Kearns and Church. Make them platoon partners in RF and get Drew for CF and that would be friggin killer. Then if Drew gets hurt you have a productive backup. Looking at Church/ Kearn's splits, we could have a RF combo batting .310/.400/.550 with 35 homeruns. We'd still have plenty of money to spend to upgrade 2B and SS and a lineup that starts with Murton, Church/Kearns, Drew, Lee, Ramirez, Barrett. Long story short: yes, get Kearns and Church

  20. Ummm... SS is probably our biggest hole of all. I have much more faith in Pie, Pagan, and Theriot to hit like league average CF, RF, and 2B men... respectively, than I have in Izturis to hit like a league average SS. Izturis isn't on this team to hit. He's there to prevent runs, which he is phenomenal at. Both offensively and defensively. =D>
  21. Lets not get carried away. Murton may be a fine LF someday, but Lee's numbers dwarfed Murton's last year. Almost .895 OPS compared to .809, 37 HR's compared to 13 HR, 116 RBI's to 62 RBI. Murton is not in CLee's league yet. Murton went through a horrible slump in June which brought down his overall numbers, but he outperformed Lee in the second half. Lee will hit more homeruns than Murton this year, but thats probably about it.
  22. And Drew has a higher career SLG% and a significantly higher OBP
  23. That's right, nobody likes 40 40 guys. we need walks. LOL You dont think we need walks?
