  1. Drew spends a lot of time on the DL. We should be trying to avoid that kind of player, if the last two years has taught us anything. So have a good backup for the 30 games he'll miss. The 125 games he's in the lineup, he'd be a force. He's been pretty healthy this year. I like the idea. If he gets injured (which is likely for about 30 games or so) you could just platoon Pie and Restovich during that time. Drew has himself a lucious OBP and now I'm really liking this scenario. Someone get Hendry on the phone.
  2. Have you seen him manage? I'm here all week folks. Zzzzzzzzzing!
  3. Sometimes it is hard to convey these things online: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue-in-cheek I don't know what he said to be honest. I wasn't there in the stands. Heck only 3 people might have been there. He could have said...Hey Loria shut the explictive up. He could have said. Mr. Loria, I'm trying to set an example to my young players regarding argunments with the umpires. I understand your mad, but I just don't want them to think it is ok. Do you see my point. My money is on a comment somewhere in the middle. I think the main problem was that he did it publicly. I'm not opposed to Girardi, but he's not perfect. What he did with Loria was most likely not the best way to handle the situation. You can admit he made a mistake and still want him as manager.
  4. The media is making it seem like Gonzalez to Florida is a done deal. If he's off the list, I think Girardi would be my top choice considering the other names floating around. Are there any other realistic options that would be better? By realistic, remember that Hendry is doing the hiring.
  5. This is fantastic news. I'm not entirely sure that you arent being sarcastic, but assuming you're serious, I agree. I would much rather a manager pull starters too early than too late. And it doesnt seem like the Marlins had an incredibly deep bullpen so I dont know how much stock to put into that argument.
  6. What would those be? I'm not asking that to disagree, I just dont know much about his in-game strategy.
  7. It also looks like Fredi Gonzalez is off the books. Looks like he will take the job in Florida. So much exploring your options... Are there any other sources saying Gonzalez is going to sign with Florida? For some reason the source in that article seemed a little sketchy.
  8. I was expecting something involving a steel chair and two tables. Well thats a given. I cut the story off a little short before getting into how Baker and Hendry will take McDonough out with those chairs and tables, setting up a cage match between Baker/Hendry and McDonough/Fredi Gonzalez.
  9. I think you have to pick and choose. I think you could give Theriot a shot, but I think Guzman is too big a risk to count on for next year. But thats one of the main reasons I really hope they keep Murton. I also wouldnt mind getting someone like Lofton for next season to give Pie a little more time, but I wouldnt like throwing Pie into the majors next season because he doesnt seem quite ready. So I think, like with all things, you have to find a balance.
  10. Here's whats going to happen: Hendry and Baker are having lunch and Hendry has tears in his eyes as he tells Baker, "I just dont see where this relationship is going." Then out of nowhere McDonough's theme music kicks in in typical WWE fashion, he comes out, gives both of them a DX crotch chop, and fires them both. .....I only watch wrestling because its funny.....seriously.
  11. I think the Dodgers have the talent to compete. They have a few solid starters and a very talented lineup. There are just a lot of question marks in that talented lineup. But that is a huge loss for the Mets. I really doubt they can win it all now.
  12. Once the Cubs were out of it, my second main hope, behind Murton and many of the Cubs rookies doing well, was that the Sox wouldnt make it. I admit it.
  13. Yes, it does. Thanks. This year has boiled down to me watching Murton's stats, hoping they end up being too good to let him go. I'd be extremely disappointed if he was traded.
  14. No Bynum or Neifi, so not quite. But pretty damn close. No A-Ram, Lee, or Barrett either. And since Zambrano isn't pitching or hitting, this has to contend. I would agree that this is definitely the worst lineup of the year. Moore, Cedeno, Theriot, and Mabry is our worst infield combination of the year (Theriot is the best of the bunch by far, especially right now, but if Ramirez or Lee were in there with Neifi instead of Theriot the infield would still be better), and when you add Blanco at C instead of Barrett, it makes it the worst lineup. Of course you know that means we'll probably score a few runs. Its pretty bad, but take comfort in the fact that it could be worse. He could have gone all out and started Bynum over Theriot and Pagan over Murton.
  15. How about this: Trade Jones for whatever you can get for him, trade for Andruw Jones, sign Carlos Lee, move Murton to RF, sign Loretta for 2B, sign Schmidt then resign Wood, Miller, Ramirez. Lineup: Loretta Murton D. Lee Jones Ramirez C.Lee Barrett Theriot (SS) Rotation: Zambrano, Schmidt, Prior, Hill, Miller Pen: Wuertz, Howry, Eyre, Wood, Ohman, a couple minor leaguers. I'm not going to calculate how expensive this team would be, but when I thought of a way to include Murton, along with having a middle lineup of Lee, Jones, Ramirez, Lee, I got excited at the thought of it. Any lineup with Carlos Lee in the 6 spot is a pretty good lineup....unless Baker is the manager, then he could just have him there to get Neifi and Macias some AB's.
  16. Besides the fact that Edmonds has been having injury problems and is no longer very good, this is one of those times where I think its alright for personal feelings to affect this kind of decision. The guy is a major d-bag.
  17. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060925&content_id=1681554&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc I tried to dig up the old thread but couldn't find it. All I know is that this response was absolutely hilarious. Izturis should bat second because he's smart enough to bat second? Its so sad that she has a job. That is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. He's smart enough to bat 2nd? Besides the overall stupidity of that statement in general, Izturis is NOT smart enough to bat second, because someone that bats second should understand the importance of getting on base and making the pitcher throw a lot of pitches. I cant, off the top of my head, think of a worse option for the #2 hitter. Mabry maybe?
  18. Neither of these observations make any sense. Whether Aramis opts out of his contract or not, why do the Cubs need to move Lee, Barret, Jones, Izturis, Murton, Zambrano, Prior, Hill, Eyre, Wuertz, Howry, Dempster, etc.? During the offseason we're likely to see 3 or 4 news-worthy acquisitions and a few bench players. If Aramis opts out, this team's minimal 2007 chances would probably disappear. 3-4 newsworthy acquisitions doesn't mean anything, the team would still suck. That seems like a pretty silly statement. Obviously it depends on who those 3-4 acquisions were. If they got something like Soriano, Jones, and Schmidt they could still compete. A lineup of Murton, Barrett, Lee, Jones, Soriano, Jones, Moore/ mid-leve 3B FA, Theriot with a rotation of Zambrano, Schmidt, Hill, Prior, and Miller could have some potential. And think if we could some how replace Ramirez with ARod and then get one of Soriano/Jones/Wells/C Lee.
  19. If I remember correctly something is slightly torn in his shoulder, I think his rotator cuff. Last year he went 11-7 with a 3.67 ERA, a .227 OP AVG (better than 03) and a 1.21 WHIP. It wasnt exactly an ace caliber season, but definitely not bad. Its silly to just write him off.
  20. Hopefully we dont have to put Izturis or Theriot there and we can sign a good OBP guy like Loretta or Giles to put in a 1-2 spot with Murton. I think someone like Wuertz would be a safer bet at closer than Marmol. But if Marmol went lights out as closer at AAA at the beginning of the season then they could try it. And I definitely think Guzman needs to go back to AAA next year and try to put it together, and hopefully something clicks and he pulls a Rich Hill.
  21. By "every year" I assume you're referring to the past two years? And Prior did make 27 starts last year. It isnt a good idea to depend on them, but it'd be just as stupid to not have a plan for using them if they are healthy.
  22. 1.) Izturis does not have good plate discepline 2.) I wouldnt be comfortable putting Marmol at closer at the begining of next year. Maybe try him there in Iowa and see how he does. 3.) I kind of agree with you about Guzman, and its not just this year. I know he's had injuries since 03 but his stats just havent been good since then and he doesnt seem to be showing any improvement. I know he has a lot of potential, but I'm starting to feel like he's never going to reach it....but I thought that about Hill too.
  23. I did the math, Kerry Wood has made $14,171.51 per pitch the past two seasons. And considerably more per strike. This year he has made $53,140.10 per strike. More than most people make in a year. I'm not saying all this because I dont want him back, I would love to sign him as a reliever...I just thought it was interesting. It was calculated that the casino guy who is ranked 3rd on the Forbes money list made over $1 million an hour this past year, based on how much higher his net worth increased. Wood would have to throw more than 18 strikes and hour to top that....so it looks like casino guy wins.
  24. If he has another good start and gets his ERA below 4, that would be a pretty amazing accomplishment considering how he started the year.
