  1. Whats the over/under on: Riots Cars Flipped Arrests I do like a lot of the players on the Phillies, and what Manuel went through at the beginning of the Playoffs makes for a nice story. I hope the Rays are not more determined next season.
  2. I don't think he has leverage anymore. In Kosuke's introduction press conference, he said he chose the Cubs because the Cubs want him to play his natural position of RF. It was an organizational promise by the Cubs that the Cubs have now broken. I certainly understand that sentiment, but Fukudome has to be big enough to realize that the change in circumstances was precipitated by his own underperformance. I'm sure the Cubs would greatly prefer to have Fukudome playing RF every day and producing at a $12M level. Or go back to Japan and leave us the $36 Million.
  3. Didn't see your post, there you are. I really hope BA is right that the Cubs believe Cashner can develop as a starter. :) What does his ETA look like as a starter?
  4. Agreed. Marmol is not going to be part of a major package, Marmol would be the featured piece. Fans know him, the league knows him. He's marketable, and quite valuable. I'd give him up in a Peavy deal, but would not throw in a bunch of other pieces. There are very few closers currently worth more than Marmol in trade value. I would have to look at a list to even think of which ones.
  5. Hmm, Opening Day in Houston might be a possibility.
  6. You best stay out of the game thread in 2 weeks! I've been wondering how I should handle that. :-)) You can have your way with the Bears but we have to give you your 1st loss of the year on Sunday. I'm looking forward to it. Should be a real good game, especially with our walking wounded getting to heal up over the bye week. It definitely ought to be a good game. By the way, how's Justin Harrell doing up there? He's from Tennessee and I've been curious if he's getting playing time or not. He was on the PUP list for the first 6 games of the year, but he's been in practice the last full week and I think he's expected to play this week. Good news because we need the depth at DT, especially if Jolly gets suspended for his offseason excursions. Harrell was hurt last year too, but when he was healthy he was solid. Nothing spectacular, but he was pretty good against the run. We're going to need that if we want to beat your guys. Thanks. Harrell was a good DT at Tennessee and I was hoping he'd make the transition to the NFL well. Hopefully he can stay healthy, but maybe not until next week. If they needed to they all could put Vince Young out at wide reciever for a couple of games :-). That is where scouts had him going after his soph year of college.
  7. I was shocked when I read he was only 48. I just thought he was much older than that for some reason.
  8. That was a good one. The Marlins-Indians series in '97 was pretty damn entertaining, too. Nothing tops 2001. Both teams in 1991 played so well and really didn't make any mistakes it seemed like, where 2001 had what 3-4 blown saves. 2001 was great though as was 1997. I hear that 1908 series was pretty good too.
  9. Maradona looks to be set to be the new Argentina coach. This should be interesting and has the potential for disasater. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=586727&sec=worldcup2010&cc=5901
  10. michigan will get good again, but we'll see how long it takes. my roommate is a michigan grad who has been in serious denial all year - i told him that they wouldn't beat illinois or michigan st, but he kept picking michigan in our confidence pool. as recently as last week, he was still saying that michigan had a chance to win in the horseshoe this year... he cites some year that michigan wasn't that good and went on the road and beat undefeated ohio st. i asked him "what was michigan's record that year" and he said "8-4." apparently he doesn't realize that michigan is much, much worse than an 8-4 team. OU, USC, Florida State, UT have all had a down year(s). Given the length of time for Michigan not making a bowl game, and the complete restructuring of their offense a year after losing so many seniors I think this is ok this year. Should Michigan has signed Pryor, things would be a lot different right now. Assuming R. Rod can get a decent recruiting class this year it won't take too long.
  11. Austin is one of the greatest cities in the US. You even here the guys on College Game Day mention that too. Lubbock on the other hand is one of the worst. Between Austin and Boulder the Big 12 has some of the best and some of the worst. Waco sucks but at least its in a nice looking area and only about an hour out from Dallas, unlike Lubbock where tumbleweeds still rome and hours away from civilization.
  12. 5 hour car ride. I might be loaded before we ever enter city limits.
  13. Me too, but in the long run, this might be a good learning experience for him. I agree. He could singlehandedly beat people at Texas, and had an offense built around him when he became really successful. Now needs a chance to learn how to succeed in the NFL. He was basically one of those kids who never had to pick up a book and had a 4.0 GPA on the football field. Doesn't work that way anymore.
  14. Lubbock past dump around 15 years ago. If dust and wind could create crap that would be Lubbock, but it will be well worth the 5 hour drive with a win.
  15. Just found out I might be going to Lubbock on Saturday for the game :yahoo:
  16. What is with Sunday games. Do they not want to showoff what they can do for the polls. I realize its just Tulsa, but still an undefeated team ranked in the top 25 yet they get leapfrogged by not playing when they should. This and Tuesday night games are just stupid. probably tu's only shot to get on tv all year Probably true. I would like to see more of them as I have become very curious the past couple of weeks, just find a way to do it on Friday night. i thought there was a gentleman's agreement not to cross streams with high school football That could be the case, this is something I am not familiar with at all.

  19. That WAS all kind of awesome. paraphrase "i told him to go take and shower and then come back and be on the sidelines, hed be a better help to the team doing that" Truly awesome. you don't #$%^ with Mike Singletary.
  20. Last game of the brutal 4 game stretch. Before this weekend I was more worried about OSU than Tech, now I am more worried about Tech than I was about OSU. McCoy should have a better game, but this might be the biggest game ever played in Lubbock.
  21. that's nice and all, but alabama is still the number 2 team in the sec. That's debateable and not something I am willing to debate right now. Suffice to say, Alabama can and could beat any team in the SEC even Florida. On the contrary, word on the street is that they cease to exist between 1:26 AM and 2:07 AM on Tuesdays. Actually no their not. Florida has beaten only one legit quality team all yr and that is LSU .v. Alabama "supposedly" only quality win with GA. UF beat a Kentucky team who lost several key members of their team (if people are going to say beating Clemson isn't impressive, then beating Kentucky without their best players isn't impressive. Both teams have impressive wins over Tennessee, and Arkansas. Both teams have impressive wins over NOW mediocre teams; Clemson .v. Miami. Both have routine wins over crappy/inferior teams; Hawai'i .v. Western Kentucky. The difference between Alabama and Florida is that Alabama beat Ole Miss. I don't look at scores as indication to the quality of the team. At worst I would put Florida as 1B to Alabama's 1A until the situation changes. Face with a similar schedule Alabama has held strong, and Florida had one sign of weakness. So i SUSPECT this debate will be answer in Atlanta in December. And I love Alabama's history against Florida in SECCG. This history: 1992 Alabama 28 Florida 21 1993 Florida 28 Alabama 13 1994 Florida 24 Alabama 23 1996 Florida 45 Alabama 30 1999 Alabama 34 Florida 7 Bama is 2-3, not much to love.
  22. If Texas makes the NC, I am pulling for Bama or Penn State to run the table. I have no desire to play Florida. Easily the best 1-loss team in the country right now. I'd have to shoot myself if the title game was florida and texas. that being said, if osu can pull off tonights game, then TTU, UT, UF, Bama and UGA are probably the only teams in the country who control their own destiny in respect to getting to the title game. Well they have both won it in very recent years. Both could have Heisman trophy winners playing against each other at the QB position. Plus we have the constant argument of high school football about Texas vs. Florida recruits. I would just have fun with it. However if your on 6th street the night of the game I would make sure to be wearing your Texas clothes :-).
