  1. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1267764,CST-SPT-cub08.article Nice to see Houston and St. Louis out of it. Now he just needs to hurry up and trade him to the Cubs.
  2. I fully expect this. The previous report makes zero sense without having having a single fact in it.
  3. Latest update is that we should hear something by Monday, apparently. The Cubs and Braves are the favorites, although the exact makeup of the trade packages seem a bit unclear. The sources are pretty varied, but Ken Rosenthal was the one who really kicked this story into high gear. Kevin Towers came out and said that Jake Peavy basically won't be a Padre come next season. And that Peavy is looking at the trades and if the team he is going to lose a piece that will help them he will reject the trade too. This could help the Cubs as the players they are looking to trade serve no purpose on the Major League Team right now, but could immediately be on the Padres roster. The key players for the Braves are currently on the Major League Roster or pretty far down in the minors. Peavy kind of has Towers by the balls with the NTC right now.
  4. Bruce, if your still around anything on the Mark Cuban rumors floating around today?
  5. That's just plain old stupid. How is that serious egg on the face? Samardzija has a no trade clause, we know that. That makes it difficult to trade him, but not impossible. We know that. There's no egg on the face for pointing that out and still seeing a guy traded. Poster A: We should trade Samardzjia, Player B, and Player C Poster B: NTC. He can't be traded. If it turns out that the NTC doesn't limit certain trades -- such as one to the Padres -- Poster B was actively wrong. Thus, egg-in-the-face. Serious egg in the face sounds a little funny. Its a message board, most people are wrong here more times than not. And when pretty much everyone here would gladly admit to being wrong in a trade to get Peavy.
  6. Luckily, Peavy would not allow the deal to happen if Soto was in the package. It's obvious that Peavy's main reason for wanting to be traded to the Cubs is because of Soto. We haven't won a World Series for 100 years, so it's obviously not because of our historic winning ways. Soto+Dempster > Peavy. It would never happen, however I am a little worried about Marmol being in the deal.
  7. I'm really curious if this would fly if legally challenged. You have a motivated seller and buyer in agreement, and that usually trumps when taken to court. I will be interested to see how far Cuban will take it then. He knows the other owners are saying this -- yet he continues to bid, continues to push. I am curious as to how credible this person is? It really doesn't make any sense, and I don't really believe it.
  8. With the NFL calling and him pretty much only wanting to play for the Cubs, he had a lot of leverage.
  9. I don't find it on my DirecTV listing. ESPN says its on CBS, which its not. Thought maybe VS or Fox Sports Southwest, but nope. I live freaking 30 miles away from TCU, figured I would be able to watch it tonight. Oh well.
  10. Is the TCU game on tv?
  11. Yeah, I'm happy for the guy. And we (FSU) can use all the good publicity we can get. I wish the scholarship committe was a bit more flexible with something like this, or at least the NCAA. I can't believe the committe won't reschedule his interview, and I'm 99.99% sure the NCAA won't let him take a private plane or booster jet to the game (since they're so worried about the student-athlete). FSU and Rhodes Scholar don't exactly belong in the same statement :-)
  12. [-X I wish he were waving a different finger. If you happen to get kicked in the balls today, its all a result of karma. Me or him? Meph

  14. Im curious abou the Cubs young pitching. Mashall? Ceda? Atkins? Papelbon? Would it cause a massive NSBB uproar if Jay Jackson was involved? No, not even close. It can involve any pitcher not named Marmol and there will be no uproar. Jackson can't be traded til June. Important point.

  16. He could be one of many. According to the Raiders' beat writer from the Sac Bee, there could be as many as 15 players that could be gone soon, including Tommy Kelly (signed a seven-year, $50.5M deal with $18.125M in guarantees before the season) and Javon Walker (six-year, $55M deal with $16M guarantees). What a joke. Al David should have his own reality show on tv.
  17. I'd probably take Halladay and Lincecum over Peavy, but that's it on that list and they all would be close....as would Santana. But if you take into consideration age, contract, and ability. I'd probably only take Lincecum. I would take Halladay over Peavy too. Then again, I think he is the most unappreciated pitcher in baseball.
  18. And a tremendous d-bag. He would probably get a DWI on his way to a day game in Chicago.
  19. I'd rather have Peavy. We don't need another backloaded contract killing this club in the future, which a deal to Sabathia likely would be. Peavy would be cheaper, slightly younger, and arguably just as good as Sabathia would be. Plus I thought Piniella said we don't have the luxury of going balls to the wall crazy with free agents because of the ownership change in limbo and we have to fix ourselves through trades? I don't think Peavy is close to as good as Sabathia right now. I'd be worried about how Peavy would do without playing half his games in Petco. Plus he was very Kazmiresque this season with his high pitch counts causing him to leave the game early all the time. Meanwhile Sabathia is an innings eating mahcine. I agree with you that I'd probably rather have Peavy at the price each owuld cost, but I don't think there's any way you could say Peavy is as good as Sabathia right now. Who is to say Sabathia will still be as good? Sabathia pitches 9 innings, yeah. But at what cost? High pitch counts each time out? Future arm issues? Who knows. Maybe he is a freak of nature. But the fact remains that Peavy is still an ace on almost any staff, and he will cost $8 mil (or $9, don't remember) this year, while Sabathia will cost someone $20 million. I'll still take Peavy. That gap between ability and payroll savings is too much to ignore, IMO Peavy's primary cost is in players traded, and you're leaving that part out of your equation completely. Peavy's contract is backloaded as well.
  20. Works for me. I wasn't questioning anything, just curious where those quotes were coming from. Like I said, there was basically no chance either was even going to be considered for the job. Here's the link http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3682303
  21. Where do I sign? At the bottom of the invisible message board trade agreement (the IMBTA).
  22. That's a heck of a rumor . . . :-)) From MrSEC.com - a very good website for those who are interested in the goings on around the SEC. For the record, John Pennington is an imbecile. Maybe Cowher would have interest (and yes, I've heard the rumors since the day he left Pittsburgh), but Pennington is still an asshat of epic proportions. Cutcliffe and Spurrier are off the Tennessee list. Damn and $6million for the buyout as well.
  23. So what hat does he wear in the HOF?
  24. It is time to change my Cubs bank card to something new till next season. Haven't gotten around to it yet though.
