  1. There goes the Cubs world series chances.
  2. He would be a perfect fit on the Cubs then.
  3. Doesn't that make the stat pretty much invalid? Yeah it does.
  4. Are you on a quest to have crappy pitching? Marquis and Meche are not good. "Not good" is being far too kind. They're pretty horrid. I can see cases for Westbrook, Lilly, Padilla... but Meche, Marquis, and Batista should be nowhere near a pro ball club (except for the cardinals). The way you guys want to throw money at hitter's, there is going to absolutley no money to spend for pitching. I would hate to see the Cubs go into next year having to out slug their opponents 10-8 every game. That is not the way you build a baseball team.
  5. Westbrook and Lilly please I'd much rather Cotts start than Meche. But give me Westbrook. somehow i think a guy who has pitched a total of 179 innings in 3 years might have a problem as a starter. He's not going to give you 33 starts and 220 innings, but you can convert a reliever to a starter in 1 season. If he's a 6th starter/swingman guy, then you could get 12-15 starts and 100 innings without stretching him too much. i would agree that it's possible but why bother? he will most likely be a 5 inning pitcher at best for a while and with other options like meche, iwaga & lilly who are already used to pitching 180+ innings, i highly doubt that cotts would be that much better as a starter than those other guys to justify taking him out of the bullpen. His numbers last year make a pretty good case for taking him out of the bullpen. It's not like he's a sure thing stud reliever and we're risking wasting that value. Why bother? Because you need starting pitchers more than relievers. It's an insurance policy. if they can sign a few of the much better options out there that i listed, there is no reason the experiment with cotts in the rotation imo. failure in the pen does not justify having him start. in most cases, guys go to the pen to try to work out their issues and not the reverse. going from a loogy for 3 years to starting will not be an easy transition in any case. when was the last time he pitched 3 innings let alone 5? there are much better insurance policies in the minors imo. Cotts could be like a Glendon Rusch type pitcher. Make a spot start here and there, and the Cubs could use him in the bullpen when needed. Cotts excells in the bullpen. I don't see why you would move him from a spot he has success in.
  6. Meche, Westbrook, and Marquis are the guys Hendry should target. Zambrano Westbrook Hill Meche Marquis/Miller/Prior
  7. Hoops, get on this- i mean, do you realize how important you are to all of us this time of year- GET ON THE HORN and get some info:)- Seriously though, you are hearing 2 and 30M? i would be open to that deal with an option year tacked on- It does appear that the Cubs are very active in this Drew bidding. I too would much prefer him over Soriano, if forced to choose. I'd offer 3 years and $40 million - $12M, $13M and $14M with a $15M option, which can automatically vest with an appropriate amount of games played in 2009 or a $1M buyout. The only problem I have with Drew is can he stay healthy. I prefer Drew to play RF rather than CF. Trade Jones and some young arms to Cleveland for Westbrook and Luna. Luna would provide insurance for SS, 2B, and 3B.
  8. I thought Nevin was a good clubhouse guy? Maybe he doesn't like the press all that much. If that is the case, then I don't blame Nevin at all.
  9. What would that pitching staff look like then? The same as it is likely to look like without those moves. We'd still be adding a couple of the Lilly, Padilla, etc. crew. I think there is a limit on how many type A and type B free agents you can sign. And by signing Drew and Lugo, you won't have a chance to sign a Lilly or Padilla.
  10. I call BS. Blanco is a .657 career OPSer. He's not a high standard to live up to. What are your thoughts on Blanco? All you use is stats to judge a player. In this case, Blanco is a tremendous back up catcher. And as a back up catcher your role is not to be a great hitter, its to be one hell of a defensive player.
  11. Peavy's health is a concern. The padres value Chris Young more than they do with Peavy. Yes, but you need more than 1 good pitcher to win and I honestly doubt they value Young over Peavy. Who is the one being traded? That's some of the worst logic I've ever seen.

  14. Ditto. I, too, live in Stl, and I don't want to take any chances with Marquis. If Duncan couldn't fix him, forget about it. He's stubborn, 100% unpredictable, and has a major problem keeping the ball down - which is the only way he succeeds. He had a hard time keeping the ball down, because he always trying to the throw the ball through the catcher.
  15. Marquis, will turn his career around in Chicago.
  16. Jason Marquis is a guy I have wanted for a while now. I think he got himself in the mindset of trying to throw a fastball by everyone. I am pretty confident that he can turn his career around with the Cubs. Sign me up for Marquis.
  17. This is one of the areas in which the cubs have alot of depth in.
  18. Maria Kanelis who now works for WWF. She won some contest and now works for them. I know her and talk to her a few times a year. She is from Ottawa, IL where I live and she is smoking. She won that contest and the WWE kept her around. Do you mind giving me her number? :D  I know she is dating C.M. Punk from ECW. is that like real dating, or one of those fake wrestling relationships? I think it is real dating.
