  1. I've probably missed it somewhere vance... but I'm assuming in that lineup you have Soriano at 2B, and leading off? Thinking of a: Soriano - 2B Barrett - C Lee - 1B Bonds - LF Ramirez - 3B Jones - RF Pie - CF Izturis/Cedeno - SS Pitcher Then on the off days for Bonds: Soriano - 2B Murton - LF Lee - 1B Ramirez - 3B Barrett - C Jones - RF Pie - CF Izzy/Cedeno - SS I'm not assuming Soriano at all. I've advocated looking into him. I've also advocated signing Alou for a platoon with Jones. However, I'm not likely in favor of doing all of these moves. I just think it would be prudent to explore all options. There's not a lot of talent in the FA pool, so the Cubs will need to be creative. If I signed Bonds, I'd pass on Alou and Soriano. Try to spend on pitching and maybe look at Ray Durham at 2b or Lugo for SS or possible explore a trade for someone like Marcus Giles. If I pursued Soriano, my preference is to use him in CF and still look to upgrade on of the MIF spots. If I signed Alou for a RF platoon, I'd still explore Soriano or look at Durham as well. I'd probably still look to improve wherever possible. I wouldn't pursue both Alou and Bonds. That wouldn't justify the risk, though it would still probably be a safer move than signing Jeff Weaver to fill a spot in the rotation. http://www.ultimateyankees.com/Jeff_Weaver_Biting_Glove.jpg Another classic Weaver picture.
  2. I hope there's some sarcasm in there. You dont like that outfield?
  3. Bonds in LF, Sosa in CF, and Alou in RF. Thoughts?
  4. I will never believe the score. Specially if that guy Offman reported it. I believe he was taking off the baseball beat last year for giving out false information.
  5. I am going to miss you Bud. http://www.covers.com/images/2006/180x180/black_bud061028a.jpg
  6. Bonds is too old. His defense would be a huge liability, and his health would be a huge risk to take on as well.
  7. I wouldn't mind Sheffield playing for the cubs, but he would just take away AB's from a potential all-star in Matt Murton. I would like to have a outfield of Murton, Wells, and Jones next year. NO to Alou.
  8. I wish Stone was still the Cubs T.V. color guy.
  9. Im getting sick of this nickle and dime crap the Cubs have been pulling. They better sign this guy, and then go out and trade for Vernon Wells.
  10. Jeff Weaver!!!!! http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2006/writers/albert_chen/10/28/weaver.cardinals/T1_1027_weaver.jpg
  11. Haha. Damn, that is funny.
  12. I am going to miss my boy Bryson McKenzie. Remember that missed dunk he had? He fell right on his back!!! http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/niu/sports/m-baskbl/auto_action/521389.jpeg
  13. I would take a gamble on Jason Marquis. I think a 1yr deal with an option for the second would be a good deal to consider. Maybe a trade for Horacio Ramirez would also be something Hendry should consider.
  14. Benson had a couple of decent runs, but he is still not a very good pass blocker. Thomas Jones will get the start next week. I really really hate the way jones runs. He is not the same runner he was last year. However, I still have confidence in him to get the job done.

  16. I would like to see Mark Derosa on the Cubs bench next year.
  17. Would you consider taking a risk on Gagne? Or would you rather sign Kerry Wood?
  18. it would be tempting. i wonder if the bo sox would give up kottaras for howry or eyre? I dont think Hendry would do that deal. Hendry probably has to win now to keep his job. Kottaras needs more time to develop before he can become an elite catcher. Does he have to be an elite catcher right now for the Cubs to win in that scenario? I could deal with Kottaras and Bengie behind the plate. But, I think the cubs could do just as fine with Soto and Bengie. I would think Hendry would look for a defense-first catcher to replace Barrett. Doesn't Kottaras have some defense questions? Hendry would look for that defensive catcher to replace Barrett. Hendry would feel pretty good if he could add Bengie and Wells to the team. Hendry likes the defensive players.

I think they could both really help the Cubs contend for a tilte next year.

  21. Toronto is pretty weak at the catching department. They may ask for Barrett in return. In that case, would you do a Wells for Barrett deal? In my opinion I would. There are guys like Bengie Molina who could be signed cheap to replace Barrett behind the plate. Bengie is not the offensive player that Barrett is, but his defense is pretty solid. If Bengie could put up a offensive season like he did for Toronto this year, then I think it would be a good deal to consider. .284 Average 19HR 57RBI .319OBp. His OBP is pretty low, but I could deal with it if he puts up a .284 Average with 19HR and 57RBI.
  22. Holy smokes!! I actually agree with you on this. Im sure Toronto is going to ask for Hill, Pie, and Guzman for Wells. In other words, Toronto is going to ask for alot in return for Vernon. That might be where they'd start, but even they would have to know they wouldn't get our best young pitcher and our top position prospect for a 1 year rental. I'll bet you could talk them down to Marshall, Guzman, Izturis and Harvey. But wouldn't the Blue Jays want someone who they feel is going to be a superstar player in return? Not to say Pie is going to be that guy, but they would probably want him if they're going to trade Vernon. But is Wells a superstar player? And he'd be a rental. That's the problem with paying a premium price for Wells. Two key issues. He may not bring premium production and you may only have him for a year. I dont think Vernon is that "superstar player", but he is one of the top Cf in the game. Hendry would obviously have to work out a deal to sign Wells to an extension. But would Wells take that offer? I dont know. It would be a risk, but a risk I would be willing to take on.
