  1. My problem with that is it will make it very difficult to get his name off the card when he's finally replaced with a decent player. Unless it's one of those erasable pens I used in junior high that ended up getting all over my hand as I wrote (lefty).
  2. What does Hilton think?
  3. I highly doubt that would really have any effect on how he pitches. I don't. These are still human beings after all. And Guzman is a young one at that. Do you not beleive confidence breeds better pitching? Or do you just think that being called up sometime a month into the season will not give him any more jitters than if he were to start the season with the club? I just think it's kind of ridiculous to suggest he'll pout if he's only called up because somebody went down, and it'll effect his pitching. They are human beings, but they are also professionals. And in Guzman's case, a professional with many years of pro experience.
  4. I don't understand how people don't see what the problem is. Throwing games is what I would take issue with. Betting on your own team to win doesn't seem all that evil to me. But, there is no way to know whether he bet for or against them. It's not about being evil. It's about being something that cannot go on with professional sports teams.
  5. Or 2 save opportunities.
  6. I wonder who is going to be the Costanza of the group, and not donate after everybody else is eventually roped in.
  7. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the general consensus that the Grapefruit League favors the pitchers while the Cactus League favors the hitters?

  9. ...or I could just take the time to know what I'm talking about before posting, heh 8-) If we all did that the conversations would be so much less interesting.
  10. I highly doubt that would really have any effect on how he pitches.
  11. There's guys in the NBA who have been around forever for no apparent reason. The NFL has them too. In most cases they're called special teamers, but they play other positions as well. Not really. Special teamers are dominated by young guys who haven't cracked a starting lineup. Besides, they do what they do well, otherwise they are cut. Baseball is the one sport where really bad players can stick around forever. I agree with you about the NFL, but again, the NBA goes right along with baseball in which bad players stick around for a long, long time. I'm just talking about sports though.

  13. That old trickster.
  14. Actually, it would only matter if they send him down next year. There would be a benefit to keeping Guzman up all year in 2007, saving the option for next year. But they don't run the risk of optioning him to AAA in April, calling him up in May, and then risk losing him if they send him down in June. The option lasts all year.
  15. I don't think I'd share your game plan, although I'd like to see Guzman be a starter for the Cubs this year.
  16. Marquis and the Greek God of Walks.
  17. I don't like the idea of making roster decisions based on service time, and who is going to put up the biggest stink. I agree with your premise, but we don't really know what the Cubs told Miller to entice him to sign again, either. If they told him he would be starting or traded, then he has every right to be upset if they send him to the bullpen. Regardless, he should make the rotation because he wins the job with everything else being equal, not because of ancillary concerns. It really doesn't matter what they told him. It doesn't? Let's not be too short-sighted here. In what way? Wade Miller is a washed up rag tag arm that wasn't getting much attention from anybody the past couple years. The Cubs paid him to rehab. They owe him nothing. They don't risk alienating future free agents by putting him in the bullpen if they feel that is what is best for the team. They didn't have to entice him to sign, they offered money, when most others weren't interested.
  18. I cannot see Jim Hendry making any effort to bring back Todd Walker.
  19. Then remove him from the roster entirely. I don't like the idea of making roster decisions based on service time, and who is going to put up the biggest stink.
  20. Seattle had the best record in the NFC in 2005. I personally think a healthy Mike Brown is more important to the defense than Lance Briggs. Thats more an appreciation of Mike Brown then a knock on Briggs. A healthy Brown isn't a real thing. He might be some what healthy in 2007, but the odds of him returning in 2008 are slim and none. Briggs can provide much more longterm value to the team.
  21. I noticed a pattern the past two seasons...Mike Brown goes down, this D goes south.... I noticed Mike Brown goes down, Bears finish with best record in NFC twice and go to Superbowl once. I would say Tommie Harris had much more to do with the defensive struggles at the end of the year than Mike Brown. Mike Brown's injury only hurt us so far as the safety was one of the weakest areas depth-wise. So long as safety is something addressed in the draft, Mike Brown isn't a huge issue. That being said, I'd like to see them keep Brown this season. I see no need to cut him for what little cap space he'll provide, especially if they aren't after any big free agents.
  22. Lance is on ESPN right now, rehashing his case. He's pushing up the "they have no intention of signing me" angle. Right now, that's the only beef I'd have with the Bears as far as what they've done. I'm guessing they are just waiting to start negotiations. If they truly never make any sort of offer or talk about a deal at all, then I'll be annoyed with them. But so far I don't have a problem with the Bears, despite Wilbon's claim that they've screwed up a lot of things already this offseason.
  23. I'm going to probably have to use autodraft again this year, virtually assuring me of no better than a 5th place finish. Is there some sort of pre-ranking option?
  24. Not me. I'd definitely need more. Maybe the 1st pick in the 2nd round, but definitely not some mid-2nd rounder. I'd have to get a 2008 pick thrown in. You have to consider the market, the Bears have to find a team that 1) Needs a WILL linebacker(or MLB, he could defineltly slide over) 2) Will pay 6+ million for one(Briggs expected contract demands) 3) Will pay this money for a LB with marginal pass rush skills 4) Will be willing to give up a high draft pick If Briggs was still under contract for few more years a trade would be easier. Or 5) Keep a player that's far more valuable than a 2nd round pick. or 6, draft A linebacker in X round and not miss a beat. Tommie Harris, Brian Urlacher, Mike Brown, those are the jugguarants on this defense, not Lance Briggs. Mike Brown? Briggs is much more integral than Brown. You're talking about giving away an asset, and that's just not smart. The Bears have to do what's best for the Bears, which does not have to jive with what's best for fans who are annoyed at greedy players.
  25. You're not sure why that would have anything to do with SS? SS is a MI position. A MI, by definition, has to be able to play SS.
