  1. Did he assassinate Jeter to take the crown?
  2. It's just an annoying catch-all that everybody uses to describe a hitter. It's largely a throw-away line.
  3. I'm by no means a fan of Muskat, but I'd roll my eyes too. Calling his calves "stick-like" is asinine. Yeah, that's a pretty stupid remark on his behalf.
  4. Who would be the last middle infielder then? It certainly sounds like the Cubs are looking for a young middle infielder just as much or more than a veteran. It sounds like they might look for youth, but it's still annoying that after jettisoning all the worthless MI trash they've had, they might just end up with the same type of crap all over again. Then who do you suggest? They need a middle infielder and the goal is for it to be someone better than Cedeno or Perez. If your wishes were to not acquire another MI then we'd be rostering the "same crap" in Cedeno or Perez. I suggested doing a better job of creating your lineup so you aren't depending on questionable starting MI, which would make your backup MI a lot less important. I don't see why I can't be frustrated that we're in the middle of another "which worthless MI can we put on the roster" discussion without offering up more options. Personally I'd go with Theriot and Cedeno as the backup MI. I don't see Ronny gaining anything from playing in AAA. He's either going to learn the game in the majors or not. I don't see any justification for bringing in another Tomas, Neifi, Macias, etc.
  5. You really think so? Only Howry and Eyre are proven RPs. Dempster could return to form and I think that he will. But everyone else is mediocre, not to mention Cotts who is dreadful and Wood who is always hurt. Nope, the BP is a weak spot. Wuertz has been a really good reliever for a few years now.
  6. HOF/All Star/Individual Award debates.
  7. Umm...did I miss something? When was that decided? http://www.suntimes.com/sports/mulligan/285706,CST-SPT-mully07.article . He didn't say WR though, just offensive player. Maybe Hester fills the need at TE or OG instead.
  8. I'd give them Murton, Gallagher, Wade Miller and pretty much any other prospect they'd want. Trade Jones for something, and then you have an OF of Cabrera, Pie and Soriano
  9. agreed. i put eight grand on this game. I prefer to hedge my puts. I put 20 grand against them. It offsets the amount of joy I'll get from a victory, but will make up for the pain that would be caused by the loss.
  10. I thought they wanted it to be every 4 years in the future, but would push the next one up to the third year (2009) to keep it from butting up against the World Cup of Futbol and Olympic years. 2013, 2017, 2021.
  11. That clock has been running for quite some time now. It's not the option clock that matters, it's the arbitration/free agency clock that comes into play. BbB, I wouldn't put that chance at zero, although it is low. Jacque could easily repeated his 2004 season, with a .254/.315/.427 (90 OPS+) line. Pie's career minor league line (.294/.353/.459) would beat that easily. His career best year in AA would blow it away. And I think I've seen some forecasts that put him ahead of that .254/.315/.427. It wouldn't be a complete shock for that to happen, even though the most likely outcome is Jones outproduces him.
  12. Are you serious? I mean, wanting the regulars to play because they're on TV is fine, but who cares what happens in this game? The fact that it's against the Sox doesn't make it anything more than a meaningless ST game. I just don't get it. Don't mean to jump on you, it's just a pet peeve of mine after hearing all these callers on the radio after the last game with them. I also think that any Sox fan who got any sense of satisfaction from winning the first meeting is severely lacking in IQ points. Completely agree. This is not a rivalry, or is it a meaningful game. The goal should be winning the WS. Spring training is about getting prepared to make a run at the WS. The outcome of this game has no baring on that whatsoever.
  13. Ummmm, what? Hardly a peep?
  14. I'll take the open roster spot, thank you very much.
  15. Haugh makes a good point, I just hope that's how the Bears see it. They could view this as an opportunity to cut bait. But in reality, the sentencing is no real justification. It's not like he did another bad thing, even though it's another bad headline. Haugh also noted the Bears should go out and resign Boone: I'd much rather they resign Boone, then they can keep the tackle rotation as Harris, Dusty, Boone, Johnson and Idonije, and they don't have to use up a draft pick on this position. If there's a stud available with the first pick, that's fine. But I'd rather they go out and draft O lineman, DBs, a RB and possibly a WR or TE. And depending on Briggs' situation, a LB. Sounds good, but I think Haugh was referring to re-signing Scott not Boone. Of the two, if we were going to re-sign someone I'd prefer Scott. I am unaware of what Haugh is referring to with Harris' "possible health concerns." My understanding was, he'll be 100% and ready to go for the season. Maybe I missed something. Thanks for catching that, not sure why I wrote Boone. Any player coming back from that type of injury is going to be a concern. There's no such thing as being 100% certain he'll come back good as new.
  16. I don't know what you expected but that is about as bad a line as it gets. Well, the SLG was a little higher than you might have expected, given his .371 minor league SLG. But he was even worse in the OBP than his pedestrian .340 from the minors.

  18. ahem, cough cough. sorry, just clearing my throat.
  19. I don't really think this is a big deal. It was inevitable that Wood would have to take some time off this spring, as he adjusts to the bullpen. I feel the same will happen during the season. Lots of relievers become "unavailable" for a few days as they nurse an injury that isn't quite worth going on the 15 day DL for.
  20. I find it extremely frustrating and annoying that the Cubs have acquired two highly mediocre veteran middle infielders in the past 8 months and they still might be looking for another.

  22. I definitely agree with this. What he did as a manager shouldn't have an affect on his ranking among the greatest to play the game. Had he been elected to the HOF prior to becoming a manager, would they pull him back out of the Hall later when he was caught gambling as a manager? I think it's a strong enough punishment to never allow him on a baseball diamond in any capacity. Seems to me like the whole thing could be put to bed by honoring him as an inductee into the HOF on the premise he goes away forever, quietly. He'll never go away. There's no need to induct him. He deserves nothing.
  23. I was kind of hoping they wouldn't have to spend a draft pick on a DTackle. They've spent a bunch on them already and need so much more. It's 4 months on paper.....likely reduced to 2 months. Tank didn't even practice until August last year with his injury. This year he'll be ready to go mid-April with early release. Bears don't need to draft DT. Dvoracek is like an extra 2nd round pick this year. NFL suspension is likely, Bears cutting him is still possible.
  24. I have no doubt. The NL is there for the taking. Espically the Central... I sure hope so, summers with good Cubs are just so much more fun
  25. you guys better just stop talking right now
