  1. Shades of Hank White's deal. Only worse.
  2. I know, just commenting. Though it's pretty obvious we probably wouldn't even keep any of these prospects we get from the Indians. I'd like to think that's what's going on here. It just seems too perfect though. If Hendry can pull it all off: ship Marquis out, sign Bradley and trade for Peavy, you gotta give the guy some credit.
  3. And if that all goes down and we add Peavy that I really don't mind this move...yeah the money is a little high, but its not ridiculous as previously stated after having a career year Right, but I think one may have nothing to do with the other. Marquis and DeRosa are salary moving trades to set up to sign Miles and Bradley. Don't see the connection with Peavy, though perhaps it clears up the ability to trade Cedeno. If we ever really needed him. Where do you think DeRosa is going then? Perhaps. And I guess the other thing I forgot is that we could be sending prospects we get for DeRo to San Diego. So, I guess there isn't a literal connection, dude...

  5. Looks like Bruce didn't exactly shoot it down a few posts back. Just saw his post and thought the same thing.
  6. So has anyone seen/heard this anywhere else? Seems like it's gonna be an interesting few days here. Marquis and DeRosa moving out, Bradley in...still not sure any of it links in with Peavy though.
  7. Aaron Miles sucks. Any magic he had in him will be gone now without the pixie dust.
  8. OMG Peavy I knew it! Seriously, Peavy and Bradley would make this a successful offseason.
  9. Lucic had a hell of a fight last night in the game against Wallace of the Pens. What a scrap.
  10. As girly as the Wings were in tonight's game, I don't blame them for not dropping the gloves. They were inside the Hawks heads and they weren't going to give the Hawks an opening to get back into the game, by getting into a fight. Having a few minutes to think back on it, I think you're right. It pissed me off that Stuart was too much of a pansy to dance after laying that questionable hit, but overall the Wings did the right thing. If it was the other way around I would have wanted the same thing. As far as the WC goes, I'm sure Bettman has sent down a strict "no fighting" mandate to the teams. I'm sure he doesn't want this huge game turning into a brawl, awesome as I think that would be. Bah, I never understood trying to take fighting out of the game to "appeal to the casual fan." IMO, fighting has always been one of the best draws for hockey to the casual fan. Not that I want a fight every 5 minutes, but I never agreed with the idea that taking fighting out of the game will make it more appealing. They should let the game take place tomorrow as it normally would. If there's a fight, then there's a fight. Absolutely. And if last night was any indication, the Wings won't throw down anyway. So no matter.

  12. Well, that sucked. It was a good run. I've been saying for the last several games that they were due for a dud sooner or later. Just wish it hadn't come against Detroit.
  13. It's time to set the tone for Thursday now. It may be a huge event for the league and the city, but win or lose tonight the WC is a huge game for the Hawks. They need to throw some checks and stir it up now.
  14. He's playing now, putting up his high stick he'll admit too tomorrow after getting a borderline high hit, and then hit again in the 2nd period. There's nothing to admit or deny. At least last time he could've claimed it was an accident. There's no plausible deniability with this one. And it wasn't as bad. But still, if he gets a reputation, it won't be good.
  15. See guys, that's Kane again doing things that are out of line after getting hit clean. This sort of thing is really disconcerting to me.
  16. Wow, nice shot by Franzen. We're gonna see what these guys are made of now.
  17. OOHHHHH Steeger! Son of a...
  18. I like it. The Hawks need to wake up a bit tonight.
  19. And then Stuart did the same thing when Eager wanted to go. What a bunch of pansies.
  20. Not exactly, apparently. I didn't know any of this. From Wiki: Either way, a tough break for the guy. The Wiki article also discusses how Durocher wrote in his book that Pappas was a "cancer" on team. Thus some explanation for the wang-implant talk. Overall, I remember sensing a tinge of the pathetic in listening to Pappas give interviews around the time of Z's no-hitter. Too bad.
  21. Maybe I'm not up on my Hawks-Wings nomenclature, but is this supposed to be some kind of sleight? I was wondering that too. I've seen Dead Things, Detoilet, Wangs. That's probably my favorite, though I generally think these sorts of things are silly. Cards fans think they're so clever with Flubs, Schlubs, etc. Ugh. I do prefer Dead Wangs, myself. Yes, the names are silly. I honestly just don't catch the Sparrows reference, so I will claim ignorance and laugh uncomfortably. Well, I mean, is the Sparrow the bitch of the Hawk family or something?

  23. I sort of wonder if they are going to put up flags for the Central Division standings next to the scoreboard. I think that would be pretty neat. And the best part would be after two straight wins if they take them down, put the Hawks flag above the Detroit flag and put them back up. =D>
  24. Thanks for posting. I am really looking forward to this. I just hope the weather cooperates.
  25. I agree with you on Soto and that is why I traded him this offseason. I would go with Hamels and Phillips. That was my feeling as well. Before last season my keepers were Hamels, Tex, Vlad and Phillips. Vlad is on the decline and I like replacing him with Longoria. I have some pause about keeping Hamels over Price though. Hamels is good for Ks, but the rest of his stats aren't eye-popping. We haven't had a limit on the number of years a player can be kept until this year. Starting this year, it's three seasons. Not that it matters, but I think two years from now I'll wish I had Price. Like you said earlier though....it's about keeping players that could/would/should be top 40 picks. Right now that's Hamels and not Price. Price is a great prospect but still unproven. Plus, couldn't you still pick him up in the draft? Probably. We do a serpentine draft after the keepers with the order going in reverse of standings. In 2007 I finished 9th so I drafted 2nd. The first pick was Braun and I picked Tulo. Ugh. This past season I finished 5th, so I'll have the 6th overall pick. I haven't looked at an early cheat sheets to see what our board will look like, and keepers aren't due yet so I don't know what will be available. But I'll bet Price is a 1st or 2nd round pick.
