  1. Holy hell yeah! Versteeg! I love these guys again.
  2. Beautiful passing there! And I know I have a bit of a man-crush on Andrew Ladd, but I love when he gets rewarded for his hard work with a goal. And was he ever set up on that one!
  3. Yeah it certainly appears that way. Kiprusoff is standing on his head.
  4. Walker went up high on him before that scrap. Haha.
  5. This is why I'm not a big fan of buying jerseys of current players. My only Cubs jersey is a Santo BP jersey I bought off ebay a few years ago. If I bought a Hawks jersey, I'd want Secord, Larmer or Magnuson. Timeless stuff. You just never know how long guys are gonna be around. And I like Versteeg, but who's to say he's not playing the best hockey he'll ever play right now. You could be that guy (and you know there was at least one) wearing a Ryan Leaf jersey to the Chargers playoff game tonight.
  6. There's no thread for this so I suppose this is the most appropriate place. I watched most of the world jr. semis tonight, Canada vs. Russia. Canada tied the game with 5.4 seconds left and then won in a shootout after a scoreless 10-minute overtime. What a game. Jordan Eberle (Edmonton draft pick) scored the tying goal and then totally buggered Russia's goalie in the shootout. He's an exciting player. He and Tavares...wow. NHL Network is airing the championship game against Sweden Monday night. I think they are re-airing both semis again tomorrow night too. Great hockey, and a wild atmosphere in Ottawa.
  7. Weird. It's not like they get playoff appearances every year in Minny. Usually their fans are better than that, although I'm sure they will sell the tickets. Still, it is pretty sad. Those tickets would have been gone in 15 seconds if the Bears won the North. Arizona may yet be blacked out from that game if they can't move some tickets fast. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs2008/news/story?id=3805057 I thought once they got within a certain number the network airing the game bought the rest because of all the ad revenue they would lose.
  8. Perhaps the WC thread should be merged back into this one now. I never really thought it needed a separate thread, but whatever. Not to state the obvious, but a big losing streak would be really bad right now. The Hawks have that awful road trip coming up, and I'd like to see them stay above water at home until that trip.
  9. Exactly. Guys like Brouwer, Bolland and Havlat are nice offensive forwards, and they are okay in the defensive zone, but they aren't physical players. Buff doesn't seem to do as much hitting this here. I love when the 4th line is on the ice. They may not be as skilled, but you know they are going 100% and they are going to hit a guy when he's near the boards with the puck. I'm not all that frustrated with the last two games. It's just a wake-up call. A reminder that this is still the youngest team in the NHL and while we may have a lot to look forward to, this team isn't there yet. And who would expect them to be?
  10. Okay, that was incredibly lame. I thought it might be cool, but it wasn't. Lame lame lame.
  11. I think he's going out of his way to praise the Wings so as to avoid any appearance of bias given his day job. Cards fans whine about Joe Buck doing the same thing all the time when he calls Cards games for FOX.
  12. Has anyone else noticed the complete lack of physical play of any kind after the first period? No more scrums in front of the net, no rough stuff. Almost as though they were told during the first intermission to clean it up... *takes off tin foil hat*
  13. I don't think so. They are just getting outplayed by a better team.
  14. But all he needs is consistant time on the ice! Oh yeah, that's it! I have an inherent bias that I'll readily admit against French Canadian players. I don't like their style and i don't think they play with heart. Although the style thing doesn't apply to Huet, I don't think he plays with heart or intensity. And he generally has just sucked all year, save for a couple games.
  15. Yeah are controlling the play right now.
  16. It should have been a no call..running Hossa was terrible and the other ref knew it Obviously, because there was no high stick by Toews.
  17. Babcock's hat is ridiculous. Brouwer didn't hit Hossa that hard. He could have taken a better path that wouldn't have led him right into Huet. And now we get the makeup call. Ridiculous.
  18. I think it's a bit unfair to Eager that a lot of people think of him as just a tough guy. He can really skate and he works really hard. I'm glad he netted one in this game. We know Detroit can put up 6-7 goals. I hope the guys keep up the intensity.
  19. Those photos are amazing. Last year's WC is on NHL Network right now. What a scene. I cannot wait for tomorrow!
  20. Just a few notes for folks with NHL Network. Pre-game coverage starts at 10:00am tomorrow, and also tomorrow night at 5:30 they are airing a show called "Voices" featuring Pat Foley. Not really sure what that one is, but I'm sure it will have a lot of cool Hawks highlights.
  21. Fukudome is gone? Well, what position would Bradley be brought in to play? RF, right? I thought Fukudome was moving to CF to platoon with Reed.
  22. So in terms of next year's team, we just traded DeRosa and Marquis for Bradley and Miles And at worst that means Marshall in the rotation. So it's really Marshall replacing Marquis, Bradley replacing Fuku and Miles/Fontenot replacing DeRo. At worst that's a wash. And I think it's an improvement.
  23. What if we get Peavy for the DeRosa prospects, and no one very valuable to the major league team and go into the season with this roster? OF: Soriano, Johnson, Fukudome, Gathright, Bradley IF: Ramirez, Theriot, Fontenot, Miles, Lee, another bad backup IF C: Soto, Koyie Hill SP: Peavy, Dempster, Zambrano, Lilly, Marshall RP: Gregg, Marmol, Samardzija, Wuertz, Cotts, Guzman, Vizcaino Gone in trades would be: Marquis, Pie, Cedeno, DeRosa, minor leaguers from Cleveland, and a few other lower level guys from Cubs. Harden?
  24. It is to me. They're setting us up. We'll get Cleveland's pitching prospects and then Hendry will talk about how great it is to restock the farm system with some new arms.
  25. Yeah, I hate this philosophy. You know you can get Peavy and Bradley, but wait to get rid of players because you don't want to have that much money tied up in case something doesn't work out. Well, isn't it better to get Peavy and Bradley and worry about a Marquis trade NOT working out than making the trades to get rid of Marquis and Derosa and having the Peavy deal not work out. It's better to be stuck with a super high payroll, but have a good team than it is to be stuck with a lower payroll and a lesser team. Says the guy not writing the checks. I agree with you, but I don't think that's how they think in the front office.
