  1. We are certainly getting different opinions right out of the gate in columnistland: Morrisey, con-firing: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/chi-tallon-blackhawks-morrissey,0,4367305.column Rozner, pro-firing (sort of): http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=306763 Rozner really nailed it. Tallon's biggest problem, fair or unfair, was that he was part of the old, ridiculously incompetent regime. I wouldn't say he was ridiculously incompetent, just mildly so.
  2. Well said.
  3. I agree with the thinking that McDonough and Rocky had no loyalty to Tallon and were waiting for a reason to can him. Their whole thing was cleaning house and ending the insular, backward thinking of the old regime that led to disasters like Bob Pulford. For better or worse, Tallon was part of that regime. Let's be honest -- Toews and Kane fell into his lap. The big decisions he's had to make, at least so far, look to be poor ones.
  4. Looked like he was trying to deke the baserunners. That's how it looked to me.
  5. I thought (hoped) Andres Blanco was gone. Sort of feel bad for PJ Walters though. A little.
  6. He flicked his toe out at it but it looked like he never got there.

    Golf

I have played off and on since I was about 15 (so 15 years), but finally started with some formal lessons yesterday. After an hour, I have a completely different grip and swing and am already seeing results. Unbelievable.
  8. Amazing trilogy with Ward, and entertaining in his last fight, if only for having Gomez pound his face in. RIP.
  9. You're not alone in that assessment. I sure was hoping to see the Hawks at the top of his list, but I'm not surprised. It seems to me the WC in general has gotten much, much stronger during free agency. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/story?columnist=frei_terry&id=4311202
  10. I could part with Versteeg, but Barker would hurt. We'll see. Guess the Hawks aren't 100% confident in their position on this. P.S. I can't wait for hockey season to start.
  11. Haha, loser. But Lee should've been at third on that one.
  12. I find it difficult to take them seriously for exactly this reason. Grow up.
  13. I consider Hossa to be a significant upgrade over Havlat, when you factor in that we just got the best we were ever going to get from Havlat. He was highly motivated, and I think his attitude after he was cut loose is more evidence the decision was a good one. And this won't come as a surprise, but I agree with you about Madden being an upgrade over Pahlsson. Good riddance.
  14. I'm pretty sure he would've said something about Hossa and Havlat's departure by now. Been pretty busy... looking for a house. Hossa is for sure better than Havlat, but by how much? It's a definite upgrade but not as much as some people are trying to make it out to be. Madden over Pahlsson is a way bigger upgrade. It's like I sent out a batcall! There he is! :D
  15. Now they'll pack the house!
  16. I rarely can stomach watching an entire game the full way. Often I'll turn it off for periods of time. I don't know if I'm becoming a worse Cubs fan or not, but I can't really watch the games. Maybe its something to do with how poorly we've dropped off from last year. Now those were fun games. Aside from the on off Kerry Wood meltdown. So what I'm saying is: You haven't missed much. These aren't pretty games. That's been my impression. And to be honest, the only reason I watched the game yesterday was because I was held hostage at a sports bar by my father-in-law, who is as interested in the team as he's ever been (which is a lot). I've just had trouble caring about this team. Going to give it another shot today, if only because my f-i-l is going to want to watch the game. :)
  17. I had heard nearly nothing about this, so I looked it up. And no wonder. I guess they aren't going after the Midwest football fan: http://www.ufl-football.com/teams I've got nearly no interest in this, but I hope it survives.
  18. I watched my first start-to-finish Cubs game of the year today. I'll be watching tomorrow.
  19. I'm not too worried about this tender letter issue. The league isn't going to screw the Hawks, regardless of what Cyno might say. Speaking of which, is he banned or just in hibernation? Also, Jackets re-signed Nash for big money. I'm not sure he's worth $8M/year for a couple years, let alone seven.
  20. And I didn't even notice about Kopecky and Madden. So, it's plus Hossa, Kopecky and Madden, minus Pahlsson, Walker and Khabi. It's been a good day.
