  1. This one is pretty epic. It's one thing to maybe leave a pitcher in one batter too long, that sort of thing. This is just senility.
  2. Is there any reasonable explanation for that move? Seriously.
  3. Gamecast says Z just took that AB. It's broken, right? No way that happened.
  4. I mean, really? What? That's my reason for being against his admission to the HOF. The rules of admission are so capricious anyway. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm opposed to him because he's a self-aggrandizing, unbashed douchebag.
  5. I can't watch the draft. Not enough into college football and don't know enough of the players. Perhaps if the Bears had one of the top picks I would be interested. But I think this is a good move. Would probably get more than the hardcore folks to watch.
  6. No physical prior to signing the deal: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/chi-25-blackhawks-marian-hossa-jul25,0,2461854.story
  7. This team is very fortunate to be in first place, and now they just need to crank it up one more notch. If Demp and Lilly come back okay, they should still win this thing by 5 games.
  8. Nice work Phils! How the f are the Cubs .5 games out?
  9. they did http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2009/07/red_wings_gm_ken_holland_says_1.html Whether Detroit knew anything is irrelevant because the Hawks are saying they knew about it. The problem is that nobody else did.
  10. You have to hand it the the guy, he took a lot of abuse from Detroit fans and the national media during the playoffs and never gave injury as an excuse for not performing well. Probably not that big of a deal if he is out until December but comes back healthy. Easy for you to say it's not a big deal. They reported on 670 today that the Hawks knew about the injury. I guess when you sign a guy for 12 [expletive] years, what's two months? (I am still in favor of the signing, but it does call into question the Hawks' FO decision-making once again)
  11. Here in Des Moines for work and walked over and caught the first half of the game tonight. Ascanio was terrible. Wild outside the zone, wild in the zone. Just bad. And I have to admit I haven't paid much attention to this I-Cubs this year, but the lineup started Fuld-Miles-Taguchi.
  12. The clincher against Calgary is being replayed on NHLN tonight at 6:00 CT, if anyone is interested. They showed Game 5 from that series last night. Great stuff.
  13. I have several friends who are diehard Royals fans (I think they are the only ones), and they are done with Dayton Moore after this trade. I'm just wondering why it was this one that put them over the top.
  14. I'm not at all familiar with this. Why wouldn't the Redskins just sign the guy to a free agent contract and keep the draft pick?
  15. Rozner is all over it: http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=307060 The Hawks are going to need production from some of the farm guys this year after a few trades happen, but that's how great teams stay great. Detroit has stayed at the top by having a steady stream of young guys come up and get the job done. This is the real problem with Tallon's bedcrap in giving those contracts to Huet and Campbell. Boyle was much cheaper and better.
  16. I'm getting really tired of Marty "Contract Year" Havlat bashing McD and the Hawks through his Twitter account. Hossa is better than you, bro. Everyone knows we got so much out of you last year only because you decided to try and not dog it and wuss out all year like most of the rest of your career. Get over it.
  17. I looked at that schedule up and down and didn't even notice the 16-day break in February. Wow. Yeah, that probably explains some of the quick turnarounds and tough travel without many days off. I like it though. It's more hockey, more often. Center Ice will be a no-brainer again this year.
  18. Here's a link that didn't freeze my browser: http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app?service=page&page=SubseasonSchedule&season=20092010 Tons of home games early on, customary circus trip over Thanksgiving, but then this trip: Fine, it's 8 games. We have a 9-game trip last year. But the haul from Ottawa to Calgary in one day is rough, then from San Jose to Carolina. WTF?

I was really looking forward to seeing the drear and windblown 3-foot tall rough in HD. Oh well. The biggest reason I never watch the Open is the most obvious one -- I already know what happened before it's broadcast.
  20. It's easy for columnists to say the Hawks made a mistake. That's the lazy way out. THEY JUST MADE THE CF! FIRING THE GM IS STUPID! Yeah, no. That's why I was talking up Rozner's article earlier. He looked behind things a little. He's actually been paying attention to hockey in this town for a little longer than April.
  21. I didn't go (obviously), but my understanding was that for the game itself, no tickets were actually made available to the public. STHs snapped them up and MLB distributed the rest. EDIT: And this is great. I've only seen the new K from the highway, but it looks great on TV.
  22. Just idiots abusing their authority. It's not the FO's fault.
  23. The Hawks boards are different than, say Cubs.com because so many of the posters are longtime, die-hard STHs who have met people like Tallon and Savard many times and feel like they are part of the family. So they take it personally when something like this happens. It was the same thing when Savard was fired. And I don't know how any rational person could disagree with that move.
  24. I know nothing about Stan Bowman, but is this a bad or good thing? Given my lack of knowledge in this, but having the Bowman's highly involved seems like a good idea. I don't know either. What I've read is that Scotty had personnel control in Buffalo for a short time and it was a disaster. I'm also reading a lot of carping at the Hawks boards (which are insane today, btw) that Stan is a finance guy, not a personnel guy. No doubt this team needs to make a few shrewd trades now to overcome several of the [expletive] contracts Dale gave out. Let's see what they do.
