  1. I know he is a reasonable man. But this is all based on speculations (or reports) that he was very much OK with Atlanta as a destination. I'm hoping the reasonable side of him comes through and accepts a trade to Atlanta (a well run team and contender) before it severely hurts the Cubs prospects. The word was he wanted a really good player coming back as part of his legacy. Delgado is exactly that. Someone we can root for, for 5+ years.
  2. Might as well change the thread title to "someone else robs Braves of Delgado and Dempster remains a Cub or is traded to LA for LA's 20th best prospect".
  3. yes, this. I don't know. I see value in it. Lets say they do get one guy who will slot right into the rotation. Fill the other spot with a cheap stop gap, if Maholm could net you say, a 1st round competitive balance pick. The worse rotation helps to secure #1 draft next year + another mid rounder. Oh I could see the benefit of that. If next year you could get a pick for arb on Maholm then the other team has to offer even more on top of that. Overall I agree, unless it's a return that nets more obvious assets than we'd get keeping him.
  4. sounds like the trade will be reported tomorrow morning based on all the different reports. Sounds like it's getting really close, it will be the Dodgers, and it will be a good return.
  5. I take this as an indication that whoever is coming back is either a position player or definitely not going to make the majors this year. Of course, I could be reading too much into this No. Even if we trade for a pitcher who is major-league ready he won't be in St Louis in time to start - if he has five days rest. If he had less than 5 days of rest, then he certainly would not be able to start. This is solving the issue of having a starter - nothing more. They may not anticipate trading Dempster for a non-major league ready starter, but this does not give any indication either way. It's irrelevant. Think this goes a little beyond a spot starter tomorrow. If that was all they wanted all they had to do was call up Coleman (which reports are that he on his way to St. Louis). A team with the Cubs record has no reason to trade for a player for a spot start. This has a larger plan in mind. But it could be irrelevant. The speculation is the fun part. All they "traded" was cash. We lost nothing and gained someone who might be just a TAD better than coleman as a SP fill in for the rest of the year. Conspiracy theory over.
  6. If they don't want Dempster to crowd Garza's market they better do it damn soon. I don't think 3 days between them is enough distance to not effect eachother.
  7. Starlin Castro replacement? STARLIN CASTRO REPLACEMENT? Does this guy even [expletive] watch any baseball? Maybe we could find a half assed player as an Anthony Rizzo replacement. Hey maybe some teams 20th best prospect could be a Travis Wood replacement? Some times I think these idiots live in opposite land. Where you are trying to get rid of outstanding core players and replace them with crap.
  8. Wow if we got Lee I'd [expletive] myself. I highly doubt it though. Dammit dude don't get my hopes up. I can't take this wait anymore.
  9. For $44 million, if the Cubs could essentially buy a teams #1 prospect, then fine. Other wise forget about it. I mean he's come around and had a really good year, isn't it likely he'll play atleast respectably til the end of his contract? It's ridiculous to give away a guy that's not a clubhouse problem.
  10. It drops one pick and 2nd year is your last chance. So 9th pick this year. Let's say they get the 18th pick next year. It would be 10th and 18th next year. I'm guessing lets' say they sign their carry over 10th pick, but fail to sign the 18th. That one might carry over but I'm just guessing here. If they fail to sign 10th it completely goes away for them. So wise choice would be to pick an easy sign.
  11. Why not? They've won some, lost some, and broke about even. Overall they have been good but not a group I think anyone should be afraid to deal with.
  12. That's about as win/win as it gets! Don't worry though, he'll get plenty of starts once Demps traded. =D>
  13. It's always nice to get the first five'ish rounds signed. Just because they have more apparent upside. Underwood, Almora, and Johnson I think will be the 3 guys I'll be keeping an eye on the most.
  14. Not really. He's had a good ytd for his position and his peers rewarded him. People love to hate LaHair on here. It's like a kind of sport. Yeah. Look for my LEAVE LAHAIR ALONE youtube video, coming soon.
  15. apparently he took media questions which is just over now. Guessing the next best time to catch it would be on CSN chicago tribune live at 5 p.m.
  16. no walks? get him out of here. Well the only time they pitch to him see is when no one is on base. And he just hits a HR any time the ball is anywhere near the strike zone, see.
  17. No he's trying to be neutral. .500/.500/.500/500HR/500RBI
  18. If nothing more than the fact that He's in the Padres system. My Hoyer signal is tingling. I wouldn't be completely jaw dropped if he's not of atleast some mild interest to the new braintrust.
  19. no, that's why they waited as long as they did. Actually (look at the question)THEY HAVE LOST A YEAR! By calling him up this year instead of next he will be a free agent in 2019 instead of 2020!!! OMGz!
  20. Ok thanks guys. It's too bad, some interesting guys there. Cali(something), Bruno is already there. Hopefully it's fixed soon.
  21. Is hawks rained out or something? I just tried tuning in to milb.tv and it's stuck on the same logo screen for 7+ minutes.
  22. lol wtf does field repair in the OF have to do with Rizzo?
  23. If he really wanted to cash in (before the CBA), then what was holding him back from doing this a few weeks ago? Morals?
  24. When it's all said and done, will Soler get a press conference? Is the move considered big enough for one? I have no idea what goes into who gets one and who doesn't.
  25. Oh yes...great news. Now get Underwood in as well Pena bye-bye Ramire bye-bye = Paul Blackburn and Pierce Johnson. See Hendry? That's how you do it. I remember getting fumed a few times where it was obvious said upcoming FA would not accept arb and Hendry didn't even offer.
