  1. Stewart performs better, but is traded off at the deadline due to high 3B demand. Edwin Jackson puts up #'s better than Garza Shark Emerges as a lights out Ace Garza performs well enough to net a couple good specs Soler tears the cover off the ball everywhere he goes and get a September cup of coffee Brett Jackson gets the Rizzo treatment, call-up in summer and performs respectfully well enough for fans to already pencil him into their 2014 line-up as CFer. Rizzo and Castro's offensive #'s rise from the year before.
  2. I would say that the important descision this front office will be judged on in the 2013 draft years from now is, did they take Appel or Mannea. They both have Ace upside. But honestly I think it will instead be, "we got the one the Astros didn't take". At this point I'm happy there are two studly pitchers in a year we pick #2.
  3. yeah I think we could get a Vizciano type return at the deadline. Well maybe not exactly, but easily someone in the top 5.
  4. any possibility of seeing Mannea pitch on MLBN or something? (heck I'd even be willing to pay for an online package) any pointers in the right direction appreciated. :good:
  5. At this point, we pretty much expect it would be at the trade deadline at the earliest, right?
  6. I hope that's not the case. I mean he never came down on them very often, and only when they deserved it. I think Theo and Jed feel the same way about playing hard, head in the game, 100% every moment. I don't see them as the type that would dismiss Brenly for that.
  7. I don't know about Ian. I am hopefull he'll have a great year this year. But if one of Stewart or Jackson can have a breakout year that would really hasten our rebuild period. Since we really didn't add a core offensive piece this offseason.
  8. are you sure? It's 9:18 central and I see nothing on MLB Network for the next 12 hours about 30 clubs in 30 days.
  9. Yeah, I'm gonna make sure to record. Getting Cubs Cabin Fever. Atleast in about a week MLBN will have a bunch of Spring Training games on almost 2 every day. So there's that.
  10. I think trading a pitcher like that, is a much better idea than extending him for 7 years. I think it would be much more healthy for the organization long term.
  11. I hope the Astros do take Meadows or a position player because I've got my heart set on Mannea. I'm afraid the astros will steal him away from us though, call it my eternal pessimism.
  12. Since there is a small handful of catchers in the early top 50 lists, I think Cubs go Mannea 1 then top available catcher 2. Then pitching. Since we need catcher I think this should be our strategy. We'll see if the FO feels the same several months from now.
  13. it was never cute. but yes, somebody actually thought it was an english communication once. the grandest wordsmith of all time at that. Sarah Palin?
  14. Or they could do a 2 for 1 deal as marlon bystro was saying and it would be for a 40 man guy, but more of a 2 for one "upgrade". My target would be for a near ready pitcher.
  15. I have no idea how this trade would possibly work. But man, if the Cubs can pull off Stanton, this would be a very fun season. Fun season? How bout fun decade.
  16. If the Astros like Martinez that much I'm hoping they go for the daily double like they did last year. I'm just worried they will steal Mannea away from us and I'm fixated on him since abty said our FO favors him. It's just that I trust our scouting so much I feel if they like him that much, then he is leaps and bounds the better choice over either Appel or Stanek.
  17. I also am planning on going to alot of Kane County games. I live 5 miles away. Cubs contracting Kane County was incredibly smart. That place is gonna get so much more business, and I have a feeling that they will TRY to get some of the more exciting prospects a little "stop" in kane county even if they don't need it. But as far as players. man we have infused alot of talent at the top, and also there are alot of guys from the 11 draft that could take a real leap forward. Mostly I'm looking forward to guys who have big upside but haven't played pro ball much yet. Guys like Soler and Paniagua I can't wait to see a full year of them. Soler - looking forward to seeing what kind of year he has Paniagua - lots of hype on this guy, can't wait to get an actual look at him Duane Underwood - see if they can refine that immense arm And I think undermentioned is, Derek Johnson, minor league pitching coordinator. This guy is extremely well respected, him getting to work with all of the high impact pitching talent we've recently infused into the system. Working guys with Paniagua, Maples, Underwood, Johnson, and possibly if we draft Mannea. We could be pitching heavy in our top 5 in just a couple short years.
  18. ABTY over at PSD several weeks ago said our FO isn't really interested in Domonic Brown. I would still like to trade for him because of his upside. I'm not sure how realistic all of this Garza for Olt talk is. But getting Brown + a good spec and then Olt would be a fun young team to watch. A roll of the dice with upside, a nice fresh restart with alot of new young talent. If not for Brown, let's speculate who from the Phillies for Soriano? Anyone else on their MLB roster? All prospects? I really don't know about the MLB roster much.
  19. The marlins don't want shark. What is the marlins owner? Greedy bastard. What is shark becoming soon? expensive. Probably don't have enough with what we CAN trade now. I'm not even advocating this but. Rizzo is the only MLB player that still has enough years of control left for a cheap owner so. . Rizzo, Baez, Vogelbach, Maples, Vizciano, ++. You'd have to overwhelm them with a quantity package. I'd rather just let our minor's perculate for another year, alot of break out candidates, and persue a big trade next year.
  20. I could see them giving him up to 4 years if the money is reasonable enough, or giving him a bit more annually on a shorter contract. I'm "tourn" on Bourn. On one hand I think at 4 years, he'll still provide great value the first couple years with only marginal decline the last couple. But it will cost a second round pick. I think I could be convinced to be happy either way. On one hand Bourn is another solid bat who provides a different type of offense with great defense I hear, and is a nice piece to add to the ever improving ML team. On the other hand, the 2nd pick netted us Underwood and Vogelbach, and we will have a very HIGH 2nd round pick next year. Both of those scenerios are good, either add a high quality guy to the ML team, or add what will likely be a high quality guy that will probably slot into our top 15 in a great system.
  21. Agreed. Both fronts coming together nicely, I think. It's pretty exciting what they've added to the tippy top of the system in just one year. One terribad season last year gives us one more really nice draft and great budget to add a couple top international guys. Now with Jackson it appears the FO is ready to start that slow climb upward on the ML front aswell.
  22. Underwood on pure pitching upside.
  23. I think Baez - Likely 2016 Almora - Likely 2016 (no matter how advanced he is he's 18/19yo) Soler - Likely late 2014 early 2015 (I think one reason they went hard after Soler is they think he just needs a couple years polish, he is 22 after all) Vizciano - given some innings as a starter after our 2013 SP selloff and a spot opens, not too many innings, just to see what he can show)
  24. Even though Castro is great, I don't even think they'd want Castro because he already got paid. Rizzo hasn't been paid yet so the likely cost would be. Rizzo + our top 5 most controllable highest value prospects or young players. They want cheap, controlable top 100 types. And probably a handful of them. Cubs won't give that up and Marlin's won't buckle without it. This probably doesn't even need to be said. But you can tell that to your brother and have him smoke it.
  25. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcREPTeb8GENHQ_Fz2Ay6hMvgoGBJMxEptoYwzq-mi3EhrQnzHyeabW_8Ra3Gw what? WHAT? I can't hear you. :-"
