  1. Now if we are doing the one at a time poll. Mid spring training if doing everyone's top 40 list.
  2. Tim we should do one twice a year. If you want to do it that way, everyone make a list then add up points, that's cool. But it would be pretty sweet to do it again about a month after the draft. Because you know the Cubs first through 3rd round are likely gonna make the top 40 so it just makes the lists look more interesting.
  3. Yeah I wonder that too, does that mean they are inconsistent, need to get their head on straight, always drunk? :P
  4. I had a dream me and Tanaka were flying a kamikaze plane, but the thing we were driving toward was the Cubs 106 year World Series drought. Then I realized I'm kinda racist in my sleep.
  5. Well if the yankees go [expletive] crazy, that kinda EFs our idea of our poor money being valuable to trade for prospects. Guess we'll just have to settle for a handful of leftover cheapos.
  6. Almora + Soler = <3 BFF <3 Baez + Bryant = BHOFF
  7. It's wonderful. I'm so looking forward to next year's minor league season. This quote can be read as either positive, or a sarcastic jab at the Cubs. However I am with you on the positive side. The great thing is this year is now most of our top'ish prospects will be viewable online because they will be in AA or higher.
  8. interesting. . . I hope it has a good ending.
  9. I say we sign Shark long term to show Tanaka we are ready to compete.
  10. I think it all hangs on Arrieta. If he could keep his control through the entire game and live up to his talent then it's an outstanding staff. I'm willing to give Arrieta the chance out of ST on his talent alone. Unless you think there is someone else with more upside than him?
  11. Cubswin, I didn't follow as closely as you did so I believe you. I was just going by mlb.com's page. Also I vaguely remember some pitcher that people said was good, but just wasn't on MLB's list. But said he is a top 30 type. So that makes 6 of the top 30(ish). What an influx of talent. Will be really cool to see who "pops" a few years from now.
  12. I believe the stories that say the Cubs will pay. So the only other thing I could pray for is to make Tanaka want to come to the Cubs. But God doesn't do the free will thing so. I'll just close might eyes tightly, clasp my hands tightly, clench down real hard, and then fart because of all the clenching.
  13. I was watching Inside Baseball on MLB network and they had a list of top 10 prospects by MLB.com. I think maybe it is an updated 2014 list that's just not posted online yet. But it had Baez at #7 and Bryant at #9.
  14. http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/12/cubs-sign-top-ifa-wladimir-galindo/ Awesome. This is what I was hoping for. Not him specifically mind you, but just sign as many restricted guys was we can since we decided to bust through the cap. Might as well load up on Talent. What is that now, 5 of MLB's top 30? That leaves Mayky Perez, Yimmelvyn Alonzo, and Wasner Peguero unsigned. I wouldn't mind signing all 3. I'm also hoping someone exciting pops up between now and the next spending period. No doubt the Cubs will at least be interested since the gloves are off.
  15. The Cubs are not spending because the best way to rip out and replace an existing minors with one that actually produces first division starters on a regular basis was to tank for 3+ years and add 3-4 guys who are top of the draft talent. And another 1 or 2 stolen from desperate teams during playoff hunts. We've added 3 such talents with that method so far. And with the fact that goes along with the increased revenue that they might finally start reaping after 2+ years of arguing with rooftop owners. If you want to be mad, be mad at Bud and the new CBA and the rooftop owners. Those are the 2 most evil nemeses in the Cubs delay in competing.
  16. I say we take a flier on that Tanaka feller.
  17. My wishlist. 1st round: Tyler Kolek 2nd round: Michael Kopech That would really round out our pitching prospects and make them look purdy too. I just really like both these guys.
  18. I've got a "vibe" too. And I'm using it now.
  19. Do all those college pitchers we drafted count? Guys who can become relievers and contribute. Or is that like a whole separate type of "prospect"? Guys like Skulina, Masek, etc. . I see what you are saying about the Cardinals. "just ok" guys that contribute for a few years. In that case, is Barney one of those types of guys? I mean he's nothing special but his defense makes him somewhat valuable. At least a couple of those years where he was hitting "ok". I thought of Olt too. He could be that type of guy with great defense, and maybe a few years of "not terrible" offense and some power.
  20. I think the Jays could make a good offer with only one of Sanchez or Stroman. I would chose Sanchez, but then the other 3 would have to slot into their top 10. Maybe their 4th, 5th, and 11th best prospect. Something like that.
  21. Marlins didn't go cheap last year, why would they now? Ok then that changes it to Lastros - Rodon Marlins - Hoffman White Sox - Jackson (MAYBE Turner) Cubs - I think Kolek will be there, and either Turner or Jackson. I like that scenerio because I really like Kolek, like Turner, and Jackson is A-OK too.
  22. As it stands now I see it shaking out like this. Lastros - Rodon Marlins - whoever signs cheapest, but I'm gonna guess Hoffman or Kolek White Sox - Jackson, Turner, or Gatewood Cubs - possibility of Kolek, Jackson, Gatewood, Turner, and Beede being there.
  23. Has Lamb regained any velocity? Or should I not get at all excited about him? Honestly don't know, and it's just a name some random poster/fan threw out there. I just posted it because I desperately need to talk about possible moves/trades. :) What do you think about the overall package though (substitute somes names for pieces #3 and #4)?
  24. Someone over at PSD had a mock with the cubs getting Ventura, Kendrick, and a couple of lower arms like Almonte and Lamb. That I could maybe live with. Gives you one top prospect type arm and a couple to add to the pool of talented high A, soon to be AA arms. Also replacing Barney with someone who can actually hit for the next couple of years while Alcantara gets his needed time in the minors. EDIT: I know Lamb isn't an 'A' arm, just wanted to note that. He is a guy with upside though.
