  1. What, how did he look? Like a dude sitting on a bench. OK Heh, really, it was a split second cut to him on the bench talking to someone. I thought it was good to see him out with the team with all the stuff in the press lately.
  2. Maybe the Cubs will remember Asia exists.
  3. Which reminds me of the Corey Patterson "we want you to be a slap/bunt/speed guy, wait how about hitting for power, no forget that back to speed." This org. is great at jerking people around. The problem with that is that we didn't really see Murton go for the "more aggressive" approach until this year after Dusty and co. were gone. Why would he be applying the ideas of the old coaches under the new ones when he was seemingly ignoring the old coaches when they were here?
  4. Why do so many characterize it as super man love? The vast majority of the pro Murton crowd thinks he can be a good, but not great, hitting LF if he plays everyday. The greatest value is that he can produce for cheap, which allows you to spend big elsewhere. Murton produced in the minors, and he's produced in the majors both in 2005 and 2006. Over the second half of last year he was tremendous, 912 OPS. He also does something the Cubs as a team do not do, but need to do more of, which is accept walks. He gets on base. Going into this year, all signs were pointing up. Career OPS+ over 100, 25 years old, solid approach, $350,000 salary with no longterm committment. People like guys who produce. People don't like when management wastes resources on marginal improvements over guys that produce or actually get guys who produce less than the guy they liked in the first place. People aren't putting Murton in the HOF, they were putting him in their starting lineups. The Cubs have put him on the backburner. OK, but then let me tie it into what I brought up...after the good things we saw, why are we seeing him look so clueless at the plate so often this year? I know he's not getting regular playing time, but is that really an excuse for a player to seemingly "forget" how to have a quality AB?
  5. I'm now backing W&S, but Murton has really not impressed as the year has gone on. Yes, I know, he's gotten the shaft on playing time...but why does that mean when does get in it, even if just for a PH, so often he's seemingly forgetting all of the aspects of his at-bats that made so many of us be impressed with him in the first place? Are we really saying that he's such a mental midget that when not playing every day he "forgets" how to hit?
  6. This team isn't nearly as awesome as the 2004 should have been. That team should have been a friggin' worldbeater, especially at the end.
  7. Lou needs to hurl some tables around as bad as this team has been swinging on the 1st pitch or at total crap today.
  8. Not only is the Cubs' candidate at the game, but she's at least (kind of) wearing team gear! The Cardinals' beer wench appears to just be someone completely random. And she's a blonde. Brunettes FTW. The choice is obvious.
  9. And Jacque's and Floyd's and, until recently, Ward's. Our OF's lack of power is laughable.
  10. Well, this game is frustrating, but at least the Cubs took the series. And the last one. Keep doing that and I can live without winning streaks and sweeps.
  11. I think Jones' shine has worn off. Pie, please...and lets have Kendall or DeRosa bat 2nd.
  12. @#@!#!@#@@!@@!@#@#@ Thanks to some supremely dumb baseball by Ward and Murton, this game isn't at least 4-3.
  13. Seet sassy molassy, Hill looked like an ace last night! That start was a thing of beauty! More, please.
  14. ....when Santo sings the stretch? Random question, I know, but a few co-workers and myself were trying to figure this out the other day and our answers were all over the place. Anyone know what the number actually is or where I could look up such a meaningless stat?
  15. Couldn't agree more. I was thrilled that he got that bouncing dribbler through the gap, but it was a miracle he did. The man looks like a wreck at the plate.
  16. Based on the Cubs luck with creaky old veteran pitchers this season, I'm expecting Blanco to come on like Pujols in the last month.
  17. I wouldn't say it was lost in the shuffle. It's a shame he won't win though. I was furious after that 1st inning but he really locked it down after that and stretched out a good start. Got Bonds looking with an especially sweet k, too!
