  1. I'd settle for Derrek Lee circa 2005. http://www.tedwilliams.com/_data/images/1941s/title3.jpg a walk per game and only 27 (!!) strikeouts Sweet Jesus, he only struck out 27 times at that point?!? What the hell was up with him that year? Doesn't he average like 3 times that many strikeouts otherwise?
  2. If I remember my stages of hangover correctly... 11 AM - "Oh God...make the world stop. Please make it stop. I swear, God, if you get me through this, I'll never have another drink again." 1 PM - *Hugs toilet* "Uggggggggh, that burrito tasted just as bad coming up as it did going down. It's going to be a long time before I have another drink." 3 PM - *Lies on futon like it's a deathbed, watching bad TV* "Maybe I'll be able to keep my soup and crackers down this time. I'm not going to drink for another month." 5 PM - *Goes out for a walk and some sunshine* "I'm okay...I'm okay...I'm okay...just remember not to have another drink for a week or two." 7 PM - *Receives phone call from friends who were also out last night* "Yeah, I don't know if I'll go out tonight, I got hammered pretty badly. Maybe we'll do it tomorrow, sound good?" 9 PM - *Calls friends back* "I'm bored. Are you still going out tonight?" And thus the cycle continues... I don't know about everyone else, but I very quickly made puking my friend in college. It ether got my clearheaded enough to make it home or even drink more. Just make sure you can step away to do your business (once I started feeling queasy I'd make for the bushes and almost zen-out and just let it happen instead of trying to hold back and feeling worse) and carry plenty of breath mints and puking can be your secret ally!
  3. Maybe he'll flip something on tonight, but if the Cubs win this one I'd love to see Lee sit tomorrow and get 2 days off...so win, jerks!
  4. Great photos...love that last one of Wood! Thanks for sharing!
  5. Wow, good catch!
  6. While I agree that Murton should have gotten more time early on and Floyd is most certainly NOT a better option, it's not like Murton hasn't had any chances this year to show that last year wasn't just an extended fluke or a young player hitting ahead of himself before the league got a look at him. He's had fits and spurts of quality this year, but, in my opinion, overall he's played way under the potential he showed last year. I understand the argument for more playing time, but how is he helping his cause by showing that he's potentially as pseudo-useless as Floyd (but much younger) when he does get a chance to play? Are we really saying that Murton is "forgetting" about good baseball if he isn't playing reguarly? He's pretty far from being that green a player. Look, I'm not slamming the guy like he's awful, but he's shown little to indicate he's an OFer with this team down the line given the current construction of the team. I want guys like Floyd and Jones gone and I think Murton could hopefully help fill their slots...but as trade bait. Ssdly, his trade appeal seems to be slipping with almost each appearance.
  7. Fukudome. Fukudome. FUKUDOME.
  8. right, implants are a bad thing now? implants are horrible. I can't stand them. You've either never experienced them "in real life" or the ones you encountered were a botched job. I am shocked and dismayed that the fake Cardinal girl with the deceptive bust is winning.
  9. Dempster gets it done. Wuertz, you're a jerk. All of the pitching was outstanding except for him.
  10. Wuertz is showing himself to be a one-hitter reliever...dude can get one out and then everything else is hard work.
  11. I was all about Bradley this time around and when he was available before, too.
  12. OK, Lee is either hurt or there's something going on in his personal life that's REALLY got his head out of the game. I hope his daughter is OK.
  13. What happens if Marshall stays in? Does his arm fall off after 80 pitches? Geez, I know you need to protect young pitchers, but that's freakin' ridiculous. It had nothing to do with the pitch count. Piniella was trying to break the game open there and it backfired on him. Once again, Piniella overmanaging. I don't think so. Agreed. Marshall looks like he's allergic to lumber when he goes up to bat. Granted, Ward didn't work out, but I'd much rather have him batting over Marshall in that situation.
  14. I've come to the conclusion that you're the most dedicated "character poster" this board has ever had.
  15. How was that on the ump? Two fastballs right down the chute and then Theriot clearly came around.
  16. No matter the result, infinitely better AB for Pie!
  17. What Cub pitcher has done that??? Gm# Date Opponent Score Starter Opp Starter 64 Wed 06/13 Seattle N 3- 2 Marshall Batista 66 Fri 06/15 San Diego 4- 1 Lilly Wells 80 Sun 07/01 Milwaukee 5- 1 Marquis Bush 91 Mon 07/16 San Francisco N 3- 2 Hill Lincecum 99 Wed 07/25 @ St. Louis N 7- 1 Lilly Wainright 4 Fri 04/06 @ Milwaukee N 9- 3 Hill Bush 26 Wed 05/02 @ Pittsburgh 7- 1 Marquis Snell 31 Wed 05/09 Pittsburgh 1- 0 Marquis Gorzelanny 45 Thu 05/24 @ San Diego N 3- 1 Marquis Young Wow, Marquis can get some low pitch counts Even when he gets pulled early his counts are typically low, he's just given up too many runs on too few pitches. He doesn't seem to have to work a lot when he slips like most of our other starters...if Marquis sucks, he gives 'em up fast!
  18. Man, I was so anti-Kendall, but he is REALLY good at working the counts. Even whe he gets an out he makes the pitchers work.
