  1. Just to clarify, any WC change is separate from the two "regular" picks we have post-ASB, correct?
  2. Nobody said it was. One poster brought up whether it was realistic for him to get eight figures if he ended up producing above an .850 OPS. The production of 3B around baseball is going to strongly influence whether that happens or not, so, yes, if he rebounds that much then there's a very good chance he could command at least $10 million next year. And no, he hasn't been "godawful" this year. He hasn't been the power threat they need, especially not for the money he's getting, but he's not "godawful."
  3. Because he hit 20 HR last year and so there's the meatball-y belief (pervasive amongst fans, sports journalists/analysts/hosts AND the Cubs front office) that he could be a decent starting OF.
  4. Yay for my WC HR Derby pick! Booooo for Randy Wells.
  5. When the pitcher is trying to give you an out and apparently can't bunt worth a damn just pitch him a [expletive] strike instead of nibbling and working a full count, Wells.
  6. Man, I had no idea that Phillies' offense was so...underwhelming this year.
  7. .850+ would be pretty [expletive] phenomenal given how down 3B production is around baseball.
  8. If his power numbers rebound why wouldn't he be?
  9. All those balls just kept hitting those damn birds.
  10. Wanna see a Fecal League?!?! Check out this guy's diaper, AMIRITE?!?!?! HIGH FIVE!!!
  11. As he should. Arguing that Jordan is the better player is one thing; saying that guys like LeBron and Kobe aren't even in the same "stratosphere" as him is ridiculous.
  12. Being [expletive] incredible at baseball is pretty redeeming.
  13. Kujay basically said that already Was I wrong? And that's not quite what I said. Unless he's got a compelling personal reason to stay in Chicago, I just don't know why a guy like him would want to play out the string on this crappy team. Just guessing, but unless he's hurt I'm sure he's thinking he's going to bounce back any day now and put up big numbers the rest of the year. If he does that but he's traded then he's locked in to next year wherever he goes. He'll be making a good chunk of change for 2012 if that's the case, true, but I'm sure he'd rather try for something like a 3-year deal for, say, at least around $9 million per. I know that's by no means a sure thing, but who knows what he's thinking/his agent is telling him? With 3B production down across baseball if he can rebound and have a huge second half it suddenly makes him that much more appealing as FA to a number of teams.
  14. I have no idea why anyone would want to miss out on the dynamic comedic styling of the Fecal League Following.
  15. He was still very useful in 2009. Not ideal compared to what he did the year before and in 2010, but he was pretty middle of the pack for catchers that played roughly as much as he did. Between that and 2008 and 2010 it's a pretty safe bet to look at the Cubs as being "set" at catcher for the foreseeable future barring him being knocked out by serious injury.
  16. I don't see the point in talking about what they can and cannot do. Sure, the Ricketts could always just throw a few more million into the Cubs to allow for another signing. The point is there is a budget for the Chicago Cubs irrespective of the wealth of the family, which is based on the revenue of the Chicago Cubs. That budget is divided in many ways, but the meaningful one is the distinction between major league ballclub and prospect acquisition. Assume the budget is fixed. They didn't expect to suck this bad and be out of the race this early. Revenue is probably going to be lower. If they are going to spend $150m this year (made up number between payroll and signings), why not cut a little bit of that out of the major league budget and give a little boost to that prospect acquisition in what is already an exremely disappointing year? I never gave a reason as to "why not." I asked why they should have to worry about getting out of the remaining money for several contracts that end after this year and you gave a potential reason.
  17. Is he really getting all that much "slack" recently? I don't recall seeing much outside of people bemoaning Hill having had to play instead of him; outside of that nobody seems to be much talking about him at all. Even Soto as bad as he is now has the decent chance to be much, much better than Hill could ever hope to be. What are you talking about besides that?
  18. Three of those players are gone after this year regardless, so "getting out of their contracts" isn't really a pertinent issue. And why would the Cubs need to "get out" of Byrd's contract? If getting out from millions of dollars in their contracts allowed the Cubs to sign all their overslot guys in the draft and still have enough to binge a bit on overseas FA, would that be making a difference? Sure, but I don't think they're in that position. Well, I'm sure revenue is going to be lower than expected this year. A few million shifted away from a dying major league roster to the minor league system could easily be meaningful. Sure. But again, I don't think they're in a position where that has to happen. If the Ricketts want to shell out whatever it takes for their draft picks they can regardless of how much the MLB team is taking in this year.

  20. So did he lose the killer instinct after spanking the Bulls? Gold star for playing big in the conference finals. Now why does he seem to disappear on the biggest stage of all? Yet Wade is the greatest even though he "disappeared" in the round to get to the "biggest stage of all?" Who said Wade was the greatest? That's what this latest discussion spun off of, Wade being called last night the greatest/best player on the Heat.
  21. I'm honestly surprised at that. I figured it happened maybe once or twice at the most.
  22. How many times have the Cubs hit more than 1 home run in a single game this season?
