  1. Yeah, you give up 3 hits (2 of them doubles) and 2 RBI to Neifi Perez and you kinda deserve to get brutalized like that.
  2. Is there a "Wells sucks" camp? I said Wells sucks in that he sucks so far this year.
  3. It's Sabathia, not [expletive] Pedro in his prime. Though, yes, Wells sucks.
  4. As opposed to assuming that a really bad year is effectively just a one-off?
  5. Pretty much. I don't even look at it as a push to get back into things this season. I just like seeing the Cubs win, even if it is just in the short term. I'll never understand people that seem to be rooting for the Cubs to become the Pirates if they can't win the division.
  6. Teams that "tank" tend to suck for a while.
  7. Is that what I just did?!? Thank you for pointing that out to me all seeing eye of my mind. Tell me, would you have rather this team had that remarkable run last summer and get that little short stop kid, or maybe a slightly higher pick? Personally I prefer seeing the Cubs win games regardless of the larger context, so no, I wasn't sitting there thinking "oh man, these late season wins are costing them higher draft picks!" The MLB draft is such a crap shoot that unless there's the rare slam dunk prospect waiting I don't root for the Cubs to "tank." Good scouting will net you good prospects. And no, I don't have any problem with them deciding on "that little short stop kid."
  8. Yes, you're the only one who prefers the team start playing terribly again rather than play out of their minds and get back in the race. Yes, but which one is more realistic? The middle.
  9. And once again someone pretends like the baseball draft works like the football or basketball draft.
  10. Zambrano's a mediocre starter only if his numbers right now are indicative of how he'll end up at the end of the season and going forward. You're the "hypothetical average Cubs fan" since you've apparently convinced yourself that he's mediocre and you think his production is easily replaced.
  11. Pretty much. The general thinking seems to be that since he's not an ace then he's a bum. There's no in-between.
  12. Yeah, but I'm worth, like 18 of the guy who sucked so much ass to become mod.
  13. Wow, DeWitt is really batting 3rd? Brilliant.
  14. Yeah, it's been a rollercoaster of emotions.
  15. Please tell me that there's video footage of this. He went all snikty-snikt with his keys, Da Bum-style.
  16. Crazy talk. And people are looking WAY too much into this. Of course the Ricketts are going to stand behind Hendry and Quade publicly right now when pressed.
  17. Christ, Wittenmyer's really gonna ride that one until it sinks, isn't he? And of course his stories will be the one that all of the local radio shows focus on when it comes to discussing the Cubs and signing FA after this season.
  18. I dont know you tell me. You brought that up.
  19. Great analysis.
  20. Youk definitely turned into something more than what he was projected to be, but he was still a valued (by the right kind of people) player when he was drafted. Beane was all about getting him until the Red Sox swooped him in and snatched him earlier than he was projected to be drafted, namely because of their pseudo-Moneyball approach to developing talent combined with enough smart signings/trades. Right, Ortiz was a very, very lucky signing, and the Cubs aren't without their luck as well (at least when it comes to trades, as with Aramis and Lee). The big difference is the big picture. Sure, the Cubs struck gold with Aramis, but there wasn't their equivalent of Manny to go along with it, plus they were bogged down by a bunch of middle tier FA and a lack of homegrown talent outside of the pitching staff.
  21. which is what i would argue the Red Sox biggest problem has been, under Theo's administration Well, no team is going to escape that trap. The Red Sox have been able to counter that with a combination of developing talent like Youkilis and Pedroia, having an eye for signing tent-pole FA like Manny (I know he was signed before Theo became the GM) and Ortiz and making trades for guys like Gonzalez. That's what a skilled FO can do for a team, and that's how a team avoids being bogged down by middling FA signings.
