  1. Does Harangody have any chance to play at the next level? I haven't seen him enough to form a true opinion. He'll probably get a shot somewhere. He's too short to ever be a star (he's listed at 6'8" and that may be generous), but the fact that he can shoot the jump shot and his incredible finesse around the basket may get him a spot in somebody's rotation down the line. If he gets more athletic that would help.
  2. Notre Dame's RPI is holding steady in the mid to upper 20s after last night. The only other positive is that after Harangody's 32/16 effort against one of the Big East's best defenders in Thabeet (not to mention a guy who has at least half a foot on Luke), there's almost no way Luke doesn't win conference player of the year barring a catastrophic injury. Irish tied for 3rd in the BE...as long as they can stay 2nd or 3rd to stay away from Georgetown until the Big East final I'll be ok.
  3. Hey, Ball State won a game! Now we're 4-19.
  4. So Illinois finally beats a team with a pulse and now you're awful talky. ND loses to UConn 84-78 despite a Herculean effort (32/17) by Harangody. Not a bad loss, because UConn never loses at Gampel Pavilion, but god, I wanted that one.
  5. Who is so terrible in the Big East? St. John's, Rutgers, DePaul and USF have losing records overall. I don't think I'd call any of the other 12 teams bad, and even St. John's and DePaul have their merits. I'd say, by way of comparison, everyone behind Minnesota in the Big Ten (5 teams) is plain bad, and there are 5 SEC teams (Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, Bama, LSU) that are pretty awful too. The great thing about the Big East is exactly that there are hardly any gimmes, other than USF and Rutgers away from the RAC. I'd say the same about the Pac-10...other than Oregon State, there isn't a bad team to be found. Hell, Washington's 9th and they just beat UCLA.
  6. Pomeroy must love the Big East or something - 7 teams from the league in his top 26. As for the IU situation, hire Ray McCallum! :D
  7. These Purdue guys are pretty good.
  8. Did you mean he was going to vote for Clinton? If the thinks Obama has a better chance of beating McCain, why would he vote Obama? Because McCain sucks.
  9. ND/UConn will be on ESPNU tomorrow night while St. John's and Cincinnati play on ESPN2 at the exact same time. That makes sense.
  10. It's not that he called it with 0.1 seconds to go, it's that IT WASN'T EVEN A DAMN FOUL. Quite possibly the worst call I've ever seen considering circumstance, and in my case, it cost ND first place in the Big East.
  11. It'll be good to resume a classic rivalry from yesteryear. For now, I believe it is still just a home-and-home. Sounds like an invitation for a liquor-addled Digger Phelps to ramble on about his glory days. No thanks. Unlike certain First Take hosts, Notre Dame-related ESPN personalities don't wander around drunk.
  12. What do you think of the ND/UCLA rivalry resuming next season, Raisin? I like it for purely selfish reasons - we'll finally have a marquee non-conference game on the schedule yearly, and having a road game at Pauley will do wonders for the resume, barring a complete beatdown. The Irish are a 3 seed in Bracketology this week - I would've given us a 4, but if they go to UConn and win (then take care of business against Rutgers), they'd have to be a 3.
  13. Ohio State will get in the NCAA tournament, but boy oh boy, they are not good. They completely screwed up every opportunity they had to get back in the game today.
  14. Damn, Hendry, how much did you have to drink?
  15. It is at this point that I submit that I was shredded for even suggesting a possibility that Purdue was the best team in the Big Ten - and now they're 10-1 and a game or more up on everybody.
  16. Huge win by Louisville over Georgetown. ND now tied with the Hoyas in the loss column (though GTown owns the tiebreaker having beaten the Irish). The UConn and Louisville games are going to be tremendous.
  17. I will quit the Panthers if we trade Smith. You have no offense for an entire year, no running game whatsoever, so you're going to trade your receiver who had 1,000 yards while dealing with FOUR different quarterbacks and was the only good thing going on offense? Unless we get like three first-rounders for him, no thanks.
  18. no wonder they have a long home winning streak Marquette did nothing but chuck treys all game long, and when they did go inside we had defensive breakdowns and had no one to stop them. It wasn't a very physical game on our end at all. really? because the box score says that Notre Dame took 23 threes, and Marquette took 25.... plus Marquette had 73 shots from the field compared to just 60 for Notre Dame. I watched the game, and I'd like to think I'm fair enough that I'd know if we'd caught a break. I didn't keep count but we probably got away with 2-4 fouls that I would've whistled, while Marquette got away with a couple of travels. Marquette had more shots because we tried to play keep-away at the end and because we had more turnovers.

  20. I like ND, but I couldn't help rooting for Marquette there. I just still can't believe Zeller got Mr. Basketball over James, and for some reason that makes me dislike Zeller. I'm not saying it makes sense, just the way it is. Forget James, Josh McRoberts was in that class too. ND scared the crap out of me with late turnovers but they held off Marquette 86-83. 18 and 11 for Harangody, and seven guys scored at least seven points. A total team effort today to make it 34 in a row in the Joyce. ND should shoot into Top 15-ish territory on Monday.
  21. Im in A week after commencement...yeah, I should be able to make it. :D
  22. I am incredibly psyched up for this ND/Marquette game. With @UConn and a home date with Pitt as 2 of the next 3 games after this, it'd be big to get this one. Let's make it 34 in a row at the Joyce.
  23. If I hadn't known what they really meant by "Soto is mobile" I would've laughed for weeks at it. I don't see the Cubs' guys doing worse than Bard/Barrett in SD.
  24. The other sports thing works great on other boards I post on, too. It's definitely something worth exploring.
  25. Illinois has to be one of the toughest-luck teams in the nation. Just off the top of my head they've lost two close ones to IU and one to Purdue. How many more of these have there been?
