  1. Stoops said he "intends" to stay at OU. Reading the transcript of that interview, he certainly does not come off authoritative, and he's given the opportunity by a reporter to directly say he's not going anywhere and instead kind of dances around the question. If he wanted to shut people up (including ND), here's the statement he could make: That paragraph would get people off his back, and that paragraph is what he's not saying. This isn't to call him a liar or say I believe he's on the edge of coming to ND or anything (I certainly believe he hasn't had any direct contact with anyone at ND right now), I just am skeptical that this is over. Also to note: The Tulsa World reported early this morning that OU would be releasing a statement later 'this morning' to further debunk the latest rumors. It's 3 pm in Oklahoma and nothing new's come out yet.
  2. I don't wholeheartedly disagree with you. I'm just a bitter fan of a 4-7 team. :)
  3. Yeah I think they're definitely the two most complete teams. I'm not entirely sure what the Vikings have done to distinguish themselves from the Colts. Showed up before the 3rd quarter in any game played in the last month.
  4. I didn't say there were. The implication in my post was that Bob Stoops isn't the perfect candidate. No one's the perfect candidate. Stoops is the best in my eyes - of people that haven't out and out denied interest.
  5. There's nothing clearly wrong with Kelly. But Stoops would be a home-run hire as opposed to Kelly's solid down-the-line double. JMO. Was Urban Meyer a solid down-the-line double for Florida? Was Dan Hawkins for Colorado? Was Steve Kragthorpe for Louisville? Well, how would you determine Stoops would be a home-run hire given the challenges at Notre Dame that aren't present at Oklahoma currently? And Kelly is a better candidate with a better resume than Kragthorpe coming out of Tulsa. So now there are those challenges at Cincinnati? Bottom line, if you're picking a coach for your football program and your choices are national champion, 9 and 10 win seasons like clockwork at a Tier 1 school that was garbage before you got there vs. guy who's won at every level so far but hasn't been in the big-time yet, you'd be crazy to pick the 2nd one unless he was like 15 years younger. And he's not.
  6. To clarify, I'm not trashing Kelly. There's nothing wrong with him and any program that gets him, if anyone does, can and should be optimistic. He's just not the guy I want first, not when there's a national championship-winning coach who may or may not be picking up the phone. I feel bad for Stoops, BTW. He's about to deny his 3rd going-to-ND rumor in the last 20 hours.

  8. Patterson at TCU just signed an extension, with rumor being that Kelly is working on one. My friend in the office just joked that it's funny how no one was signing extensions last week when Notre Dame had a coach.
  9. I think it's assume whichever of Iowa/PSU doesn't get a BCS gets the CapOne. makes sense. CapOne gets, what, a 4th place SEC team this year? (with Bama/Florida in the BCS and LSU in the Cotton)? Ole Miss is going to the Cotton vs Oklahoma State. LSU will probably end up in the CapOne.
  10. Really? I don't watch ND more than 3 times a year and am not that familiar with their defensive personnel. But the guy was an extremely successful DC whom Notre Dame fans were thrilled to hire. He took a reasonably talented defense and made them look absolutely stupid, week in and week out. Kyle McCarthy, Manti Te'o, Raeshon McNeil, Robert Blanton, Ethan Johnson, Kapron Lewis-Moore...these aren't world-beating names, but they sure as hell aren't members of a group that should rank in the bottom third of FBS defenses and manage to lose 4 different games in which ND scores 27 points or more. And yes, I was thrilled to get him too. Mea culpa.
  11. As good as Jimmy Clausen is, he will leave ND without a winning regular season. Which can be blamed entirely on Jon Tenuta, the single worst assistant Notre Dame has had in my conscious life.
  12. Here's to the Saints starting 15-0 and the Colts losing a game so that NBC flexes us into Sunday night so the entire country can watch my Panthers get defenestrated.

  14. Why? Stoops has a title ring. He's been to like half the national title games since the BCS was instituted. He has coached 2 QBs, 1 of whom clearly didn't have pro-football chops, to a Heisman Trophy, almost coached AD to a 3rd, and until this injury-riddled year had done nothing but pile up 9 and 10-win seasons. And he's done all that at one of the top-tier programs. His resume is top notch but I think you have to temper it with the fact that Oklahoma didn't really deserve to be in any of the last three BCS title games Stoops took them to. On top of that he didn't win any of them and they weren't especially competitive games either. There's two other BCS losses in that time frame and he's lost 4 out of the last 5 against Texas. At this point, I'll worry about winning the big games when we can get to them. Stoops has shown he can get to them. And how did Oklahoma not deserve their bid in the 04 BCS title game? They were a clear #2 behind USC. They were ranked #1 the time before that (sketchy perhaps, but still).

  16. Adam Schefter's most recent Tweet:
  17. Which really isn't all that bad of a fallback option. Meh. Cincy has no running game and no defense. Kelly openly admitted he entered the Illinois game trying to outscore them. Seems like if we wanted someone that fit those criteria that we already had him. Granted, Kelly has succeeded greatly at Cincy, but so did Rodriguez at WVU (also in the Big East). I'd be hopeful for Kelly but not overly confident if he was the guy.
  18. No worries, Weis is white and arrogant so no one will run around trying to credit him for the next coach's success (if he has any). Stoops just said he'll be at Oklahoma next year, so that might be scuttled. espn.com mentioned Butch Davis. No way. He wouldn't even consider the Tennessee job last year. Notre Dame is obviously more prestigious than UT, but I think Davis is pretty settled in at UNC. Yeah, I don't think Davis has any big incentives to go to ND. It's not like he hasn't already proven he can do it on the big stage (at Miami).

  20. I believe Michigan's already said Rodriguez will coach there next year.

  22. Rob Ianello, recruiting coordinator, is the interim coach.
  23. CubinNY post about "decided schematic advantage", "X's and O's", "genius", or something else coming within next 15 minutes. Anyway, good luck to him going back to being an NFL offensive coordinator, his true calling. Meanwhile, I await (hopefully) Stoops.
  24. Ivan Maisel just tweeted that Ole Miss will play in the Cotton Bowl again.
  25. Back on track for my team, so far the highest-scoring team of the week. Me and dew are the two highest-scoring teams and we're in 5th and 6th. This is very weird.
