Back to the pen, huh? Further proof that this organization doesn't know what in holy hell it's doing. Randy Wells should go to Iowa in favor of Gorzelanny.
More likely he'll just spew more platitudes and "what do you want me to do"s. I'm just ready for this team to be done. A little over 2 months til football.
Slight nitpick: The Barrett thing (at least, the Z/Barrett thing) happened at Wrigley, against Atlanta. The Barrett/Pierzynski thing happened at the Cell. Man, we've had a lot of fights/outbursts the last half-dozen or so years, haven't we?
And I like Derrek Lee but he's rapidly approaching Ryan Theriot level "casual fans like me for being nice to the press so I think I'm the spokesman for the team and everyone just ignore that I am sucking at baseball this year" annoyance. He's been Z's teammate for how long? If he was the patient wonderful guy he paints himself to be, maybe he'd have just let Z rant instead of reacting the way he did.
The fact that Jim Hendry's fat worthless ass could sit up on that podium sneering about Zambrano, admit that he lied about the reason Z got moved to the pen (a move that absolutely was a match in the powder keg that was this mess) and act like the voice of reason in all this is yet another reason he needs to get the hell out of here. If we can suspend our hothead pitcher indefinitely, I say we can suspend our incompetent GM who took the highest payroll this side of [expletive] Boston and New York and created an incompetent team of overpaid, undertalented, over-the-hill or not-ready-yet losers and suspend his ass indefinitely too.
they beat a bad team in 13 innings with that lineup, can't change it. A 2nd day off in a row after a cross-country flight with another day game isn't the worst thing, I guess.
I haven't seen a lot of Favors but I think I like Cousins better provided he doesn't land in a crappy situation like Golden State. I also don't get the Wes Johnson hype.
The ESPN report says the Kings are ready to make a similar deal if the Wizards back out, but all reports are that the Wiz will make the deal. I love it. We wouldn't likely get anyone good at 17 and Hinrich is mediocre and overpaid. Even if we didn't land a big fish this is a good deal.
Pretty funny I don't know, seems classless to me. Not able to watch, What did Brenly say? He had a quick 4 or 5 pitch at bat and Brenly seemed like he was rushing to get in his digs. Len mentioned it was odd that he was getting more boos than cheers at home (Cubs fans booing) and Brenly said something to the effect of they haven't gotten to know him yet. Then said something about a Seattle restaurant with a special sandwich that costs whatever Bradley's average is at the time. We get it Bob, you think he is a jerk. It just seems so personal with him, like he takes pleasure in calling him out. Not professional at all IMO. Brenly's treatment of Bradley (like most of the Chicago media) has been and is ridiculous. To a lesser extent, Soriano. And some want him managing this team.
It shouldn't add more pressure, but there's no doubt that it does. The crowd, the players, they all seemed to have the wind torpedoed out of them the minute that Loney slam left the yard in Game 1 in 2008.
Maybe I'm reading too much into Len, but I feel like he has a slightly different tone of voice when he's relaying a piece of information he thinks is really stupid. He used that tone of voice when talking about Colvin leading off.
So we move on if we beat Algeria by multiple goals, no matter what happens. If we beat Algeria by 1, we just need England/Slovenia to not end in a draw. England/Algeria is pretty much moot except that if they draw with Algeria, it becomes conceivable for the U.S. to advance even if they tie Algeria too.
Wow, I just looked up Game 6 of the 1992 Finals - widely known as a game MJ struggled and the Bulls' reserves did some heavy lifting - to see if it was worse, and I find 13/24 FG, 2/3 3FG, 5/5 FT, 33 pts, 4 reb, 4 ast, 4 stl. So yeah, it was.
These calls have been legit. Most of them have, yeah. I'm not seeing a whole lot of bad calls. The worst call I've seen was Pierce getting free throws because he leaned into Gasol while on the perimeter. Though the Lakers got a break on the Pau shot there.
Coaches generally agree to get wired only if they're assured that anything interesting won't get shown. The Jackson "They lose games in the 4th quarter" speech was pretty interesting. Which is why it was such a shock when they ran it. There were rumors that Jackson might not wire himself up again after that.
The Utah to Pac-10 move makes sense to me, they've been pretty good the last 15 years in both of the big sports. If I were the Big 12 I'd think about adding BYU and another team (maybe TCU, maybe somebody else), but it doesn't seem like they're interested in doing that.
