  1. I'm kind of shocked they'd even consider a TV ban. If I'm remembering correctly, Auburn in 1993 was the last time that happened.
  2. For the record, I'm sure KU and Missouri will be fine. Worst case for KU is it joins the Big East to keep its hoops cash cow in a competitive league (because I don't see how no Big East team gets raided at some point soon), and Missouri, while not exactly a blue-chip stock, is a big enough name (carrying a big enough TV market) that it will get a sniff from somebody. I expect the hot rumor after this to have Missouri following Notre Dame into the Big 14 (though I don't think that's what will actually happen, that'll be the rumor). It's K-State and Iowa State that are screwed. MWC? WAC? MAC? Sun Belt? As someone said on Twitter tonight, the moral from all this is that maybe we shouldn't put numbers in our major conference's names anymore.
  3. That's unbelievable. The ESPN.com story about this says that the new Pac-16 would likely split into 8 team divisions (the old Pac-8 as the West, with ASU and Arizona joining the new 6 as the East) and would probably not play a championship game but instead push for each division champ to get a BCS auto-bid. The schedule would likely have each division playing each other as well as 2 games from the other division per year (the Pac-10 already plays 9 conference games so existing membership wouldn't have to tweak its schedules much). The funniest part about all this is that the Big 12 would have to stay together at least through the 2011-12 academic year. That's not awkward.
  4. I said all along that if the NCAA was ever going to be taken seriously again as a rule enforcer they needed to act, and they did and then some. I really didn't expect a postseason ban of any kind. The 20 scholarships are spread out over 4 years, so that's not nearly as big of a deal as the bowl ban.
  5. Bruce Feldman on ESPN said on Twitter that USC will be receiving a two-year postseason ban too. But I haven't seen any further confirmation on that.
  6. This is all ridiculous. I want to fast-forward and find out if I know what I'm going to be doing during college football seasons or not.
  7. It's a huge deal in that the Big Ten now has to find a way to put the number 12 in its logo.
  8. Much as I loathe to bring them up, the 2004 Detroit Pistons say hi.
  9. This might as well just be called the Conference Realignment Thread or something at this point.
  10. 2 hits apiece for, frankly, the only 2 [expletive] reasons to watch this team, Colvin and Castro. Two years ago seems like an eternity.
  11. Swarbrick said that report was bupkus.
  12. Bob: "Hopefully the Cubs can feed off the electricity from this crowd." Len: "Paul Sullivan is sitting in the stands today, hoping to catch a foul ball...if someone hits one, he has a good shot at one. (beat) Because he'll be competing with nobody." I love these guys.
  13. If the post is about what you saw from the HOCKEY game, go right ahead.
  14. Watching the Celtics and Lakers take turns flopping every time I flipped over from the hockey game reminded me why I don't like the NBA.
  15. Count me into the "hoping Cashner gets a few starts later in the season" crowd. And it doesn't have to be later in the season, though I wouldn't mind Gorzo being moved back into the rotation and Wells to the bullpen, or something. We have too many starters.
  16. Another stupid lineup. Theriot Colvin Lee Byrd Ramirez Soriano Castro Hill
  17. Ernie Shore shouldn't have a perfect game because he only retired 26 batters. That seems easy enough.
  18. We'll take our mulligan on that one, since that was the hire we should have made 2 years ago.
  19. It's all ok guys, Koyie Hill is going to be in the lineup tomorrow, so we'll be fine. I really hate this team.
  20. The good news is we are gonna get a nice draft pick out of this year. And if we actually offer arbitration to Lee we could have a ton of picks next year. C'mon, we're not going to do something intelligent like that.
  21. Boy, someone really wants every top Cubs prospect to get hurt. That scared me.
  22. The code is 1...2.....3....4...5.
  23. Nady batting 3rd (Soriano probably should be in this scenario) is asinine, and of course Hill is starting again over Soto. Lou is never going to forgive Geo for not hitting for the first week and a half of the season, I guess.
  24. Over which OF? How 'bout the one who basically hasn't been hitting for 2 straight weeks or more?
