  1. Gotta say, I'm pleased that in my fifth year of posting here I'm finally putting forth a respectable HR Derby showing.
  2. I'm actually kind of excited for the Panthers' ESPN preseason game to check out the new-look team.
  3. Last year's was awful. Country music intro? For a Chicago team? Really?
  4. I'm much too happy about not having to watch Ryan Theriot everyday anymore. Not quite Neifi-level happy, because that's basically an unreachable level. But quite happy.
  5. I'm going to do it once the preseason AP rankings are released. I'm completely in your boat. Speaking of which, anyone want their teams added to the "teams of interest" column that isn't there already?
  6. It should be something else, one conference that can't count is plenty enough.
  7. And the way the Cubs spent the next few days acting they probably put a lock on the clubhouse door along with a crude picture of Z that said "NO ZAMBRANOS ALLOWED" on it.
  8. Apropos of nothing, Miami scheduled a home and home with Toledo. I'd love to know how Toledo got that deal. Ball State is hosting South Florida in 2012 as part of a home and home, but they aren't "The U".
  9. Aaron Miles is hitting .327 in his very limited ABs in St. Louis. I'm SHOCKED.
  10. Looking at that Cardinals lineup, the first thing that comes to mind is "How the hell is that team 10+ games ahead of us?".
  11. Notre Dame and Miami will play in Chicago in 2012, at ND in 2016, and at Miami on Thanksgiving weekend 2017. The latter is the best news - ND hasn't had a marquee game after USC in odd-numbered years (when they play at ND in October) in quite a while. The 2012 schedule now has USC, Michigan, Miami and Oklahoma (assuming the latter is finalized) on it. Not too bad. Also, Pat Haden is mercifully leaving the NBC ND booth to be AD at USC, where he was previously on the board of trustees.
  12. A replacement 1B for one. So we throw a bunch of money at a replacement 3B instead of a replacement 1B, when good hitters are far easier to find at 1B?
  13. I went to play NCAA Football when it was 7-1. Go figure.
  14. Yeah, I realized right after I arrived at work that Atkins pitched...falling behind 5-0 in the 1st clouds one's judgment.
  15. It was a joke, friends. Calm down. I like Stevens, I'm just hoping for some improvement.
  16. Did you know... - Carlos Silva sucks at pitching - Jeff Stevens is mediocre at best at pitching - Justin Berg sucks at pitching - Bob Howry really, really, really [expletive] sucks at pitching
  17. Phil Steele's schedule ratings are out, and Iowa State has the most difficult in the country. 1 Iowa St 2 South Carolina 3 UCLA 4 Mississippi St 5 Minnesota 6 Oregon St 7 Washington 8 Miami, Fl 9 Duke 10 LSU
  18. The games were decreasing on WGN steadily anyway, but I do think the fact that the Trib is gone accounts for the stark drop in games this year. I think there were 70-some WGN games in recent years and this year there are under 60. It looks like it was 60 regular season games last year and 63 the year before. Like I said, clearly the sale has nothing to do with the decrease in WGN games. 8-)
  19. Sciambi did at one point do college basketball games on the ESPN networks, I believe he still does.

  21. It would really be nice if we could pull off the kind of run the White Sox just pulled out of their rear ends. This is the week to do it too, at home against Houston and a rival.
  22. Introducing my girlfriend to Wrigley today, the only way I know how: in the bleachers watching a crappy team. Please win, Cobs.
  23. Sam Smith says the Bulls signed Brewer. We are officially the Midwestern Jazz.
  24. Going for broke and using both post-ASG transactions immediately. Drop Markakis, add Vlad Guerrero. Drop McGehee, add Aramis Ramirez.
  25. Why? Because he had to go to another team to get his Pippen/Shaq? Whatever anyone's opinion of Pippen, he was never a top-4 player in the entire league like Dwyane Wade is. At best, LBJ and Wade are 1A and 1B. And for that matter, Shaq is a poor comparison too, because he was The Man on those first 3 Lakers teams, not Kobe. Pippen was one of about 10 active players named to the top 50 players in NBA history. He was seen very highly during his playing days. I suppose I should correct myself by saying that Pippen was probably looked at as a top 4 player for the 93-94 season, when he could've been MVP but for a ridiculous season by Olajuwon.
