  1. Really it was the Rockets that were getting screwed. NO actually would've made out pretty decent, with a 1st rounder plus 3 starters for a guy who's gone in 6 months. Maybe I'm giving the owners too much credit but it seems like they may have vetoed this trade as a pre-emptive strike against the Howard deal they knew was coming after it.
  2. Stein says the deal won't go through tomorrow, Wojnarowski says owners have pushed Stern to kill the trade. The plot thickens.
  3. The Rockies' beat writer just Tweeted that it's Colvin and LeMahieu for Stewart and a minor league pitcher by the name of Casey Weathers.
  4. I'd definitely like to see that myself.
  5. Yeah, the Lakers probably already have the Bynum for Howard deal on standby. How is that the best offer out there for Paul? And how exactly do the Rockets improve from that deal?
  6. The only possible reason would be that Weis has shown he can recruit, but I can't believe Malzahn couldn't get the same kind of talent Weis did if he were a head coach. Really odd that KU would want Charlie first (even more so after Florida's offensive showing this year).
  7. The BCS isn't going to have an AQ system after 2013, so that crappy Big East will only get a BCS bid once.
  8. Exactly the kind of stuff the Cardinals were hoping would be the headlines.
  9. I'm weirdly confident about Carolina's chances the remainder of the season. Getting to 6 or 7 wins would be a significant step from last year especially considering literally half the starting defense is now on IR.
  10. Little bit of a different scenario in 2006. First, the margin between Michigan and Florida in the polls to begin with was much, much smaller than the margin between Alabama and Oklahoma State. It's possible that more voters switched this time the final week than did in 2006, but since the decision was much more split to begin with in 06 tipped the balance. Also, Michigan after they lost was never #2 in the polls. After the Michigan loss, it was USC 2, Michigan 3, Florida 4. So the voters never had to decide whether they were willing to put Michigan 2 until the final week when USC lost, and that's when they decided to leave Michigan at 3 and flip Florida at 2. In Oklahoma State's case, they lost after Alabama did. Finally, a small factor might have been that Michigan was done after their loss and Florida still had 2 more chances to impress the voters. Now, the SEC thing probably did have something to do with this rematch. I agree with that. But it's not a straight comparison to 2006 whatsoever. You're splitting hairs. Nothing is ever a straight comparision; but this is about as close as it will ever get. The SEC plays by different rules. When it was the Big Ten, team No. 2 already had their chance and the title game should not feature rematches. When it was the SEC, the best two teams should play in the title game, regardless of whether it's a rematch.* *For the record, I believe LSU and Alabama are the best two teams in the country. I have little problem with the rematch; I have a big problem with shifting goal posts. The bolded is the most important point. Oklahoma State had a much more impressive body of work than did Alabama, but since Bama had the 'better' loss and was in the SEC, they got the benefit of the doubt. ("Oklahoma State could NEVER move the ball on the almighty LSU defense! Ever!")
  11. The last two ND assistants to get hired into the MAC were 1) a domestic-abusing wackjob and 2) a train wreck. So we'll see. I'm not a huge fan of Molnar.
  12. By the time anyone noticed how good he's been, it was too late to jump past the entrenched folks on most ballots, I think. I'm not sure who you'd bump out of the existing 5 to make room for him either, though. If I had a vote I'd pick RG3.
  13. I don't really buy into the notion that there is too much football. When it's UL-Lafayette vs. San Diego State, I do. Not that I care. I know I don't have to watch it, and it's just a money grab. But it sort of illustrates how stupid college football really is. I don't really see how it illustrates that college football is stupid if they can find a financially viable way to have a couple mediocre teams play late in the year. To be fair, it's not really financially viable. The schools playing in these games pretty much all take a bath financially because of unsold tickets.
  14. I totally agree. I think I'm more angry that they put him in the HOF now than I would've been if they'd just kept him out. It's like no one felt like he deserved to see it happen.
  15. He wasn't down when he dove for him. The refs want you to assume that the QB is out of play before he is and I'm getting sick of that. Carolina got called for a personal foul against Stafford a couple weeks ago for hitting him while he was in bounds (going towards sideline). It's out of control.

  17. 9 teams? There were only 7 teams left in the top 14 at that point-Arkansas, Boise, Kansas State, South Carolina, Va Tech, Baylor, and Georgia. And only 4 of those teams were even eligible. Other 9 teams = teams playing in BCS games
  18. 1) That's the game I've been waiting for Cam to play all year. He was spectacular at times up to this point, but this was probably the first time he's really carved up the defense without making any mistakes. Granted it was a terrible Tampa team, but he looked completely in control of the proceedings at all times. 2) At first I was rooting for Tebow to fail to shut up all his zealot fans, but now I kinda want to see how far this magic can go.
  19. Gotta love that Michigan gets to go BCS instead of MSU because MSU beat Michigan (and therefore played another game). I know that's been discussed ad nauseam, but it hasn't gotten any less stupid. And on top of it they draw the, at best, 8th best team of the other 9.
  20. You don't really know that's going to happen and it's possible that they got the ball inside the 10 because Wisconsin had players back to protect the punter. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply the return was going that far regardless. The fact that he has a returner capable of doing that at all though is another reason rushing the punt there was dumb.
  21. I don't care if Akron hires Tim Brown, that game needs to be cancelled.
  22. Bad call or good call, Dantonio is a moron for sending anyone after the punter the way Kirk Cousins was playing. Just take the ball - especially when your returner took it inside the 10.
  23. I hope so.
  24. Leach would be good for you guys or any team on your level in another conference, but I'd think if you can land a guy like Smart, that's pretty solid. Just because he's Bama's DC doesn't mean he's necessarily going to try to outmuscle them.
  25. I disagree. I thought they, overall, looked better in the beginning of the year, but the stupid turnovers (and some bad luck) really did them in against South Florida and Michigan. Up until USC, they were clearly the best team on the field in each game. Starting with USC and continuing through Saturday, the lack of depth and poor QB play really did them in. November consisted of too close games against crappy major conference teams and a poor showing against Stanford. Not sure how someone would think that's good. Yeah, other than a ridiculous amount of turnovers, ND was significantly better in September. They pretty easily beat a possible BCS team in MSU and would've beaten another if not for any one of the first four stupid turnovers in Ann Arbor, or if Gary Gray turned around (which, as Stanford's first score on Saturday indicates, he still has yet to learn how to do after 5 years on campus).
