  1. The square is the rule book strike zone, but they use the actual calls made to determine whether a ball/strike call is 'wrong'.
  2. Umps probably cost us at least 2 runs with the Rizzo gaffe and that absurd strike 1. The CB/Angel Hernandez crew is always good for horsefeathering up at least 1 game beyond recognition.
  3. Far be it from me to complain about anything on that play, but I didn't see anyone call time. Too bad Rizzo doesn't get rewarded for a rare smart baserunning play.
  4. Why is this garbage ass team shutting us down
  5. Almora against a lefty can hit anywhere he wants. Heyward I'm less enthusiastic about against lefties, but the L/R balance makes it probably ok. Also, Erlin isn't lasting long because he isn't stretched out, so that's probably part of it.
  6. Edwin Jackson in 2014. 6-15, 6.33 ERA, -2.3 bWAR in 140.2 IP. Jesus H Christ I forgot how absolutely terrible Jackson was that year. Fun fact, I basically called Mike Minor's HR off Jackson from the bleachers that year ("if Minor's ever going to hit a HR, it'll be off Edwin" 2 pitches before he went deep).
  7. I voted no, but I think he has a real shot. The combined effect of the El Mago stuff and the narrative boost he'll probably get from the fact that Bryant and the rotation have been so disappointing (and yet we're still in first place) absolutely thrusts him into the conversation.
  8. We'd have like 13 runs in a normal size ballpark.
  9. Confirmation bias and all, but Hamels looks really good. Lots of swing and miss stuff, good control. The off speed stuff has been particularly good.
  10. This is hilarious, do it forever
  11. I'm becoming increasingly convinced that Javy is an actual magician
  12. It's not officially CFB season until someone is embroiled in a high-profile scandal made worse by lying about it.
  13. I really miss Chicago's ESPN Zone.
  14. Serious contender for stupidest loss of the year.
  15. Not our best game but several rockets have been unfortunately placed including 3 for sure RBI hits.
  16. Next time just tell him you're going to put that pitch there, Wilson, he couldn't have hit it harder if you did.
  17. Seeds hit everywhere in the park for outs. Today is dumb.
  18. Well that was a BS "failure" to score. 2 of those today
  19. Beltre said he wants to finish his career in Texas earlier today and I'm pretty sure he has no-trade rights.
  20. The Cubs are on pace to get as much value from Bryant, Rizzo, and Darvish combined as Bryant provided last year, and they have the best record in the national league. I'm not on the doom boner train - I'm not remotely worried about holding off Milwaukee - but this would be a much more heartening fact if we had solid reason to believe Bryant or Darvish were going to be Bryant or Darvish from this point on.
  21. P Jhon Romero, high-A Myrtle Beach.
  22. Report is Harvey's staying put, so unless Theo had another late ninja move, this is our team.
  23. Report is Jhon Romero going the other way. Lots of strikeouts, but also a 23-year-old reliever in A ball.
