  1. I miss when a topic like that could blow up for 110 pages.
  2. I know none of this matters in relation to money, but I've seen plenty of talk just in the last couple of days that Baylor to the Pac-12 and WVU to the ACC would be nonstarters. The Pac-12 takes pride in its secular identity and Baylor is a Baptist school, to say nothing of the various sports program-related horrors in their not distant past. (They probably would also not be thrilled at the academic profile of the other 3 schools mentioned.) West Virginia coveted an ACC invite when they were leaving the dying Big East and supposedly didn't get one because their academic reputation isn't good (some ACC fans still don't like that Louisville is in the league for the same reason). If the ACC did invite WVU they'd probably want to add another team to get to 16. If we continue to assume the Notre Dame thing won't happen...UCF? Maybe?
  3. The SEC is essentially 2 different conferences that happen to compete under the same umbrella as it is. (Georgia STILL has not played at Texas A&M and this is year 10 of the current SEC alignment.) If they go to 16 and keep divisions, they really will just be separate conferences with a title game between them at the end of the schedule.
  4. Would you look at that, another game where a supposedly available off the bench star never leaves the bench despite a close game where it would've made sense at almost any time to put him in.
  5. Who's ready for more realignment?
  6. Somewhere on the South Side right after you sent this post, Len Kasper yelped "Striking out the side means you struck out all 3 batters in the inning!" and didn't even know why. I've never heard that "striking out the side" is limited to a "three up, three down" situation before Len was always adamant about it, and he actually swayed me to his argument.

  8. LMAO, the filing says he intentionally went 'from the top of his game' to not playing. Ben's Baseball-Reference page can be used as exhibit A to refute that one.
  9. "No one had any idea how important Ortega and Chirinos would be to the 2021 Cubs in the spring" Well, first of all, half of them weren't with the Cubs in the spring, and second of all, they're not important in any real sense just because they swung this game God Sutcliffe is a moron
  10. I don't know why it is happening but I've officially had enough of JD being minimized/sidelined as much as he has. Sutcliffe is a damn mess on these games.
  11. Sexual assault allegation that came to light in early 2012 and ultimately didn't result in charges. https://www.espn.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/7431695/chicago-cubs-starlin-castro-part-sexual-assault-investigation
  12. Rizzo already turned down 5/70 and has played worse than that this year, so if he gets extended it's not going to look a thing like 6/90.
  13. Well damn, I feel bad for the guy now. I think the catcher is more to blame than Craig. You re-run that play with every single player that has ever played the game and 99.9999% or more of them either turn into the dugout or stand there and let themselves be tagged. Craig takes a step to tag Javy and Javy backs up - at that point Javy can't go anywhere - Craig takes another step - so does Javy - but again where can he go. It really unravels when the catcher calls for the ball and Craig throws it to him (which he shouldn't have done) - at this point I believe Javy's foot is in the batters box. The catcher (too lazy to look up who it was) could've tagged Javy there but tries to get Contreras and then yadda yadda yadda. I'm not saying Craig executed the play well but I think the catcher, at a minimum, deserves as much scorn as Craig. It really was a team-wide disaster. Craig obviously started it, but as you outline the catcher fucked up too. The second baseman fucked up by not covering first base during the rundown. Everyone else on the infield fucked up by not screaming at Craig to just tag Javy or touch the base. Craig deserves better than to be the only face of that play.
  14. Finally Manfred says something I don't completely hate
  15. In my outfield, drop Ian Happ, add Chris Taylor.
  16. I'm going to Wrigley this weekend and the cumulative cost of the tickets I bought on StubHub has already fallen $50 since I finished buying them like 5 days ago.
  17. I'm not going to go diving through the entire thread, but his own agents didn't clarify that it was spelled 'Ohtani' until November 2017, so whatevs.
  18. Bench - Drop Kyle Lewis, add Giancarlo Stanton
  19. A friend and I have an annual Wrigley trip we've been making almost every year since we graduated high school. This year because he started a new job the only series available to us was St Louis next weekend. We're both excited to be at Wrigley again but man the baseball is probably gonna suck as we cannonball (further?) into 4th place.
  20. Time to fire the hitting coach, says Chili Davis Poor Chili. We all really thought he sucked and it turned out he was just a victim of sequencing because it was just the first of several years they were all awful.
  21. I was at the Bote slam game, so that's easily tops for me. The ridiculous NLDS clincher in Washington is probably 1B.
  22. I was going to ask how the living hell such insane passages escaped everyone's notice, but apparently the book was published in 1975. I had no idea Jackson was famous enough to have a book deal at that time.
  23. In sports you constantly have eras ending without people really realizing it until they look back later with the benefit of hindsight and notice that this, here, is where it ended. This series is the complete opposite of that. This was the end and just about everyone knows it.
  24. I have a rule about never trashing anyone who helped the Cubs win the World Series (heinous Addison Russell-type actions excepted) but it's past time to reconsider Jake's spot in the starting rotation.
