  1. It's not even disappointing anymore when someone GIDPs with 2 on. Of course that's what happened.
  2. I've covered prep sports here for 9 years and don't think I've ever seen a guy that can get it into the 90s. Then again, the Cubs could just end up being bamboozled by the lack of velocity.
  3. 4 HBPs in 4 innings, 1 run scored. Just special stuff we're watching here.
  4. If Theo is to believed from his exit press conference, Jed was always the guy pushing for change and moving on from guys and Theo was the guy who held on too long/was irrational about players/too attached. So at least Jed may realize what mostly all of us have the last 1.5-3 years and knows a team offensive profile like this doesn’t work moving forward. Sure but he did very little to change that dynamic this offseason, even despite a partial teardown by trading Yu for nothing of value over the next several years. If they were going to try to go with a "put all our faith in the pitch lab" strategy, why wouldn't you try to also change the dynamic of the offense when it was a well known weakness heading into the season. The more I think about it the more I realize that some of those signings the Cubs did make seem like they were made to be flipped at the deadline. The one thing the Cubs do have right now is a lot of attractive trade pieces for July and I think thats what were going to see happen in July. Sure they hoped that they could scratch together a quasi competitive season in a weak division, but assuming it didnt work out they were going to go into July ready to deal. For all the talk about tanking getting the Cubs a title, the real reason is because they struck gold over and over again in those sign-and-flip trades. I'm not sure we can count on Jed being able to do that again, but you're right, they're probably going to try.
  5. It's 85% of Tier 1 personnel, which includes active roster, coaches and, I think, certain members of the traveling party.
  6. Oh look, we signed another shitty player whose only relevant success came with St. Louis and he horsefeathering sucked. Let me find an emoji to display my shock.
  7. Tony Wolters has been DFA'd to make room for Austin Romine. Also apparently Hendricks has been sent home, still under the weather. So that's going great.
  8. Apparently the Atlantic League will also experiment with the Len Kasper-approved tying of the DH to the starting pitcher. That's interesting.
  9. Moving the mound back certainly strikes me as less objectionable than banning shifts and all the other inane rule changes or proposals of the last couple of years.
  10. Good call, I think I heard Boog or JD mention Burnes pitching tomorrow and went on autopilot.
  11. The game just started. Apparently Hendricks 'isn't feeling well', so he's not playing for cautionary reasons as the COVID absences pile up.
  12. Obviously we take the title even though LA crapping out another random white guy with OBP and SLG skills every other month is annoying while our lineup of supposed studs scores 1 run per game. I find it very hard to believe that if we were hunting for people to hate on the Dodgers like this fan base is with Eric Sogard that we wouldn't find plenty of horsefeathers like that. (Not a comment on the Ricketts or the other myriad of things to hate about the franchise, though.)
  13. It's the same game every day with these asswipes.
  14. Avoiding COVID was the only thing this team was good at and now they can't even do that.
  15. Not in his walk year. Yeah we have him next year as well. I imagine with so may walk year guys, they won't really shop guys controlled beyond this year except for Kimbrel. But Brothers, Trevor Williams, and Contreras are all only under contract through next season so they'd likely be available at least theoretically. Kimbrel is in his walk year too. (He might have an option.)
  16. It is in the rule book. Kulpa screwed it up. The stupid thing is, he was calling it a strike before changing course mid-call and calling it a HBP. If he knew it was a strike, why did he change the call? Just a complete brain-fart, I guess.
  17. Granted, the Pirates, but that was a spectacularly badass performance by Kimbrel. No point whatsoever in which he wasn't giving those guys swirlies and taking their lunch money.
  18. Someday Javy won't be our shortstop and we probably won't even think twice at whoever the next guy is failing to even get to a ball like that, let alone make the play as effortlessly as he just made that look.
  19. I think he beat it as well but it was so close I don't mind the uphold there.
  20. That was a really impressive swing by KB.
  21. Every indication I've gotten when connected people discuss this stuff is that we should not expect to see Bally networks on a streaming service any time soon. Bally seems to want more than the channels are worth and the streaming services are betting that the post-lockdown decline in sports ratings is a sign that people are willing to go without them if it's not for the right price. I'm not sure why Marquee was an exception for Fubo or why Sinclair was willing to make an exception for Marquee.
  22. Well this sure didn't take long. Due to Tatis' injury, I will be burning my first transaction. Drop Tatis $75 SS Add Javy Baez $75 SS
  23. Apparently he's going to Atlanta so we'll still have to see him 6 times.
