  1. Thumbs up. Hopefully Walt pulls a Hendry and signs Jacque Jones now.
  2. Len must have tipped off someone at MSNBC! He's a madman!!!
  3. Get Kearns for RF, Wilkerson/Bradley for CF (patterson + prospect(s)), Lugo for SS (maybe)and we're set. Even with Cedeno/Walker Wilkerson/Bradley Kearns Collectively that is significant improvement to last years lineup. Wilkerson Walker 2B Lee Ramirez Kearns Barrett Murton Cedeno SS or Wilkerson Lugo SS Lee Ramirez Kearns Barrett Murton Cedeno 2B or Lugo SS Walker 2B Lee Bradley Ramirez Kearns Barrett Murton etc. You can really play around with lineup Going in to 06 with Murton, Cedeno and Kearns is a pretty big leap of faith. You're right. They're all too young. Pencil in Encarnacion, Neifi and Mabry for those three slots. Gotta break the kids in slowly, dude.
  4. Gammons didn't say that. He said Cubs need a 2b so Cedeno can play SS. I guess Walker doesn't count. a real big shame we did not go after Castillo. A really big shame we're hell bent on trading Walker. I like the latter comment better.
  5. The talent is there and always has been. He was once considered a better prospect than Dunn. In his first season he put up a .900+ OPS at the age of 22. The next season he put up a .820 OPS in half a season at the age of 23. He's solid defensively and has good patience and while he doesn't have monster power, he has pretty decent pop. Plus, there's little to suggest that his decline in Cincy doesn't have a lot to do with the fact that the Reds have had 4 or 5 starter-caliber OFs the last few seasons.
  6. Pissed off? Happy? Dissappointed? Confused as to how to feel? What's the general consensus over there right now? Dissappointed and denial. Some "06 is over" type stuff. I feel relief and dissappointment all at the same time. Just move Rick Ankiel back to pitcher and start him instead. He'll win 20 games and have a 3.20 ERA or something like that. Anyone else feel like even though the Cubs have had a mediocre offseason, it's being made better just from everything else that's happening (i.e. Burnett leaving the NL, Dodgers throwing a mint at Furcal, everyone overpaying even more for relievers than we did, Cards possibly signing Jones and Boone, etc.)?
  7. I'll make a Mitre/Nolasco for Kearns deal in a second but first I'll counter with a Mitre/inferior pitcher deal like WF22 said. If they don't bite I'd make the Mitre/Nolasco deal anyway.
  8. Should we start a bandWGN for that?
  9. The USA today only picks 62 coaches. I have no clue what the criteria is. Urban Meyer didn't have a vote, nor did Snyder. Not sure why some get left out. I likes how Rutgers got one top 25 vote, by the Rutgers coach Mike Bellotti voted Notre Dame 9th and Oregon 4th. That's objective. EDIT - I laughed out loud when I saw that Ty Willingham did the Oregon 4/ND 9 thing too.
  10. Your wish came true. Seriously, Barrett is the most underrated Cubs player I've ever watched. Absolutely no one on any message board seems to think he's any good.
  11. OK. I'm just kind of paranoid with wthat's-his-face lurking around here with the Furcal/Zito crap; add that to the fact that I'm a Cards fan, and I know I'm probably a "suspect." Being a Cards fan doesn't open you up to any suspicion on this board, just a whole lot of unfunny cheap shots at your team for being lucky with crap players.
  12. Please get Wilkerson, Jim. Don't get Pierre unless he's the best available player.
  13. It's going to be the Dodgers who are crippled when Furcal goes right back to his career norms from 2006-07.
  14. The Dodgers might just accept that, pathetic as it is. I just don't think the Cubs are smart enough to offer him.
  15. I fume every time I hear about Walker possibly/probably being traded. we have one fee agent, ONE, over the 30 years I have followed baseball that took less money because he wanted to be a Cub. and he's a fine player, and exactly what the team needs. so we send him packing. Andre Dawson. And it wasn't like Walker walked away from large opportunities. As far as I recall, only Cleveland and the Cubs expressed interest in him after 2003. I believe there were at least a couple of other non-contending teams that would've offered him a starting job.
  16. This organization is a joke. Only we would have a 2.5 million player who hit .300, got on base at a .370 clip, hit 15 homers, was a decent fielder, and be trying to do everything we could to get rid of him.
  17. Len's clearly now posing as other people to get his fix of spreading false rumors about done deals.
  18. K-SGon. My source in Iceland has heard on ESPN Radio Iceland that the Tribune Company has purchased the Yankees from George Steinbrenner and subsequently traded ARod to the Cubs for Blanco and Patterson. I've got Brenly here and he says he will confirm. Also I talked to Neifi and while I didn't quite understand what he was saying he said the words "ARod" and "Cubs" so I assume he is clued in.
  19. Ok, but be careful. I hear that Kenny Williams will be trying to unload some of his overpriced doughnuts for some young, more promising ones. Don't fall for it.
  20. SEASON OVER That is the worst possible scenario for the MI right now.
  21. The Cubs trade Dusty Baker and prospects for Dave Wannstedt. The Cubs win 40 games in 2006 under Wanny.
  22. NUN, have you ever considered the possibility that most of these athletes come from fairly well-to-do families? Also, what of parents who might buy their children cars as a congratulations gift or as a joke thanks for not making them pay for their college? I have also heard of families taking out loans based on the guaranteed future wealth of their child. I believe that is how Lebron got his hummer. Also worth noting that I read a ESPN article on Leinart saying he pretty much lived in a dump with 3 roommates, and drove some old POS car. I was about a year ago though, so it may have changed. I like Leinart (that hurt to say). I don't mind Leinart. It makes him a lot more tolerable to think about where the respective QBs might be 5 years from now.
  23. Yeah change it to "M4D throws final nail in own coffin".
