  1. I agree with naming Murton the starting LF for sure and Cedeno the SS if we don't get Tejada, but remember that Atlanta only played all those young players because their regulars were ravaged by injury.

You trying to say he's not athletic? Have you seen him?
  3. Ok, do the Sox look at what the Cubs might want and just chase after those guys lately, or what? Tejada, Kotsay...
  4. The mayors office. I wouldn't even be that surprised.
  5. That was the end of the 2001 playoff run no matter what the standings said after that. Sub in Bill Mueller for Ron Coomer in all those June-August games and we make the playoffs for sure.
  6. I don't care if Hendry overpays if Tejada gets us to the playoffs.

How can anyone think that an event that Greg Raymer can be the world champion of is a sport? :?
  8. Wow, sign him back up!
  9. We all know that Jenks was good because he lit his arm on fire. We need to teach our young relievers how to do that.
  10. I agree that Kotsay would fit as an OF, but I don't want him in the number 2 slot... Walker
  11. Cubs and Sox head to head for Tejada, huh? This could be interesting...
  12. Bad enough the Sox trade their very worst starter and get one that's better, but if they get Tejada I am going to punch something (preferably a White Sox fan when they rub it in my face).
  13. How many runs did KW score? How is that relative? He is the one who put the team together. Nor did I say it took 11 men to win the WS which is what I am responding to. Frankly, I'm surprised how some of you are completely discounting what he did last year by calling it pure luck. Sour Grapes. Some of it was luck however most teams that win the WS are lucky. So KW deserves no credit for building the WS roster and hiring the manager? Wasn't it a batboy or something that told Guillen to pinch hit Blum in Game 3 of the World Series? (I definitely heard Guillen say this in an interview on ESPN) Sign him to a contract because he helped win a title!
  14. If Burnitz had hit 45 home runs and hit .300 in RF for the Cubs in 2005, would that make signing him when you could have gotten a much more dependable Alou back for just a little more a smart move? If Neifi somehow hits .285 next season with a .350 OBP and 15 home runs at short, does that make signing him to a 2 year, 5 million deal after having a sub-.300 OBP in 2005 any smarter? If we traded DLee for Jose Reyes, scored 80-100 runs fewer than 2005, and won the World Series anyway behind career years from Wood, Williams, Rusch and Novoa, would Hendry be smart for making that move? I'm not saying Kenny Williams is Forrest Gump up there, but the White Sox's championship this season was earned by eleven men: those Sox pitchers that all had great years.
  15. Bulls lose 100-97. Still encouraging that we hung in right to the end despite Shaq's dismantling of our defense. That was something we could never seem to do last year.
  16. Wow you won't let this thing die will you?
  17. His risks paid off and he deserves credit IMO. To me, it's that simple. If Hendry took some risks and they paid off he deserves credit for them too. I agree with YearofDaCubs, this is a big issue for me. I value GMs for their ability to find the diamonds in the rough with no predictable course for success. If it's about identifying the most productive player regardless of salary or other teams (who can also statistically identify the same player), then have a computer do the work and maybe a sales guy on the front end to talk to the players. Ndistops stated five good moves Williams made. Are they all lucky? Williams deserves more credit than that regardless of his track record and even if it's one year. It's not even like they were the wild card, they had the best record in the AL. Actually, I stated five moves that we on NSBB would have blasted Jim Hendry for making (and rightfully so). The fact that all five of those moves turned into gold does not say as much about Williams as it does about the fact that even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while, even a broken clock is right twice a day, all the other similar metaphors that have been used already in this thread.
  18. Meat and Potatoes Man's avatar is shaking in its boots. :D
  19. Funny how in retrospect, if a bad move works out, it is praised as "taking a risk", but if it doesn't, it is criticized as ruining chemistry or taking an unnecessary gamble et al.
  20. Maybe I'm naive, maybe I never learn. But I would insist on holding back on sending them Guzman in the deal. I think this is the year he puts his arm problems behind him. You're naive and you never learn. We should know by now that except for Z, who seems to be immune to everything, all young stud Cub pitchers have arm troubles (Wood and Guzman) or suffer one fluke injury after another (Prior).
  21. The players were quality. I'm not hating on the players. The Sox were a good team, I just don't think Williams deserves credit for making the offense worse and picking up pitchers that I doubt even he could possibly have thought were going to play that well.
  22. So if the Falcons lose they aren't in the playoffs no matter what? Oh man, gonna be a tough game... Probably not. As it is they are 8th in the NFC currently, with 9-4 Carolina as the first wildcard and 8-5 Dallas as the 2nd. And 8-5 Minnesota still lurks as well. This is really an all-or-nothing game for the Falcons, who can control their own destiny in the NFC South with a win but are basically gone from the playoffs if they lose.
  23. HAHHAH yet all of these pieces got them to the WS. Why the hate? Is it bitterness? Hey, I'm a Cubs fan and I give credit where it's due. KW deserves credit for winning. It's bitterness, yes, but all these moves were much more likely to be bad ones than good ones. The fact that all of these guys ended up having their best years ever (or in Dye's case, his best year this millennium anyway) is just plain lucky.
  24. Trading one sucky pitcher (Loaiza) for another one in Contreras is not laudable. Neither is picking up a guy who hadn't had a full-season ERA below 4.06 since 1998 (Hermanson). Nor is signing a bar-fighting, arm-burning lunatic like Bobby Jenks. Nor is picking up an injury-prone strikeout king in Dye. Nor is hiring a classless arrogant ass as manager. I really don't see why Williams gets credit from anybody.
  25. That's just great. Pittsburgh is about one more pitching acquisition away from competing with the Cubs for 4th place assuming they get Mueller.
