  2. Hope he keeps being a jackass, then maybe people will stop calling him a "gamer".
  3. Clayton and Ozzie BOTH had better years than they should have............ probably because of the way Larussa used them. TLR should be commended for getting the most out of both of them. Ozzie doesn't get it. He didn't have the stamina to be a full-timer at that point in his career. It would have been ugly (just like it was in '95). Ozzie should thank Larussa for putting him in a position to succeed in '96, so he wouldn't have to go out on the miserable note of 1995. Just like how he masterfully used Womack in '04'. Face it something happens when a guy puts on a Cardinals uniform. Don't believe me ask Woddy Williams, Julian Tavarez, or Cal Eldred. Chris Carpenter. Ray King.
  4. Stupid lineup. Hopefully the Cubs win in spite of Murton hitting 8th again.
  5. i thought len or hawk had said that, odd as it was, there were no pre-game warnings after z hit iguchi. Whoa, I completely missed something today. I took a little nap during the game, and have no clue that any of this happened. Details? basically aj hit a solo shot off of z, and he must have said something to carlos while rounding the bases because carlos started yelling in the direction of either aj/sox bench/joey cora @ 3rd while doing the whole two fingers in his eyes then two fingers towards his eyes like 'look at me' thing. then aj, after crossing the plate, kissed his hand and pointed to the sky ala carlos, and ozzie ran out to say something, who knows what. it was funny because for a second, carlos settled down after it quite well, it made me think that ozzie may have better control over the cubs than baker does. ha. Wow, thanks. I had no clue that happened. Anyone have a video link? AJ is a complete a**. The Sox need to find something else for comedy. The "imitating Cubs celebration" shtick got old about the 2nd time Jose Valentin did Sammy's kiss thing. With all there is to make fun of, they can certainly find something better than imitating Z.
  6. The Bulls are everything the Cubs aren't - well-run, with a solid plan in place, an intelligent GM and coach at the helm, and a good system with which to develop young players. I can't wait for next season.
  7. Great post, hadn't thought of it this way.
  8. Suffered through 2000 and 2002. Have yet to find a Cubs team that is really hate-able. But 2004 was surprisingly un-fun for an 89-win year. No one in the organization - fans, players, broadcasters, execs - was ready for the pressure of being pre-season WS favorites. I don't hate this team. I actually very much like the team. I can't stand the front office, but I like all 8 regular position players (well, maybe not Juan) and I like all the pitchers. I want them to win. It sucks that they really aren't capable of doing it.
  9. I called something similar, that he'd leave with "arm soreness" and go on the DL again. But the Cubs decided to wait two days before fulfilling my prediction...
  10. I'd rather see a DLee that hits like Neifi Perez than Neifi Perez himself. At least Lee would have a chance of improving. That's true but it would still be hard to watch for a little while if he was hitting like Neifi. DLee could hit better than Neifi NOW. I think the worst we see is a May 2004-type Derrek Lee for a while till he gets back in 100 percent shape.
  11. I'm as pissed at him for the error as anything, but he did hit 3 game-winning homers early in the season that helped us win the division by one game. (I will always remember Geoff Jenkins robbing him of a 4th game-winner in the 16-inning game that CPatt eventually won.) Enjoy your retirement, Alex.
  12. Barrett 10 games is complete crap. Sammy only got 8 pre-appeal for corking, Springer got 4 for intentionally hitting somebody, I'm pretty sure Alomar got only 6 for spitting at an ump, and I know that Farns didn't get 10 for tackling Wilson. There is NO WAY to justify a 10 game suspension for Barrett looking at similar suspensions in recent years.
  13. Today was his 19th homer against CWS, most against any team.
  14. DLee wants back by June 10. Wonder if he can pull it off.
  15. If he was a Cub, yes. But since he isn't he will go on to a multiple Cy Young career. Len said they were both in West Tenn last year, so yes.
  16. Mike Piazza was a 62nd round pick, and the only reason Lasorda took him was as a favor to Piazza's relative (I forget which one exactly). Why can't we catch that?
  17. Barrett punching AJ was completely uncalled for in that circumstance. I would've done it too. Completely agree with the decision. (if that makes any sense)
  18. If I were there I'd be yelling that he should've run to first after being punched in the face and maybe the ump would've given him first base in the confusion. I'd settle for "Don't piss off Barrett, he won't pull his punch this time"
  19. Guillen was on that RCAA list with Neifi as one of the worst ever, so Ozzie by an eyelash.
  20. Well, the sad thing is that Barrett jacking Pierzynski in the face is probably going to be the highlight of the season. Since the year's pretty much over anyway, I'm glad he did it. I know he was at fault, but I think Barrett knows as well as anyone that AJP has deserved a few cracks in the face for a while.
  21. Barrett dropping the third strike of the third out of the bottom of the ninth in Philly last year then throwing the ball to the wrong base.... ....that was the worst play ever. That was a mistake made in the heat of the moment. A more apt comparison would be if Barrett had decided beforehand to throw the ball to the wrong base in the hopes of catching someone napping off of another base.
  22. Awesome post.
  23. Neifi's quote is great "I've been struggling with the bat right now." By "right now" he apparently means "for the last 5 years." Absolutely unreal. Dusty's been topping himself lately but he's going to find it difficult to go much stupider than this instance.
