  1. I think the philosophy of little ball is really pervasive on this team. Take (I think) the third inning of the game on Tuesday. Pierre leads off with a double. Neifi tries to bunt and fails, taps a two strike pitch to the right side, advancing the runner. When Neifi gets back to the dugout, he's greeted with cheers, high fives, and back slaps! Hooray! You got out in a less damaging way then could be expected! Next up is Lee with one out and a runner on third. I would have laughed (or cried) if they had walked him, depriving the Cubs of their best hitter with the go ahead run on third. How many times did we see that last season? A sacrifice to move a guy over ahead of Lee, then the Triple Crown candidate pad his OBP on four balls (be they intentional or para-intentional).
  2. How many players did Ozzie Guillen select? How many were White Sox?
  3. I was watching the game with two Mets fans, we were going back and forth between SNY (channel 85) and WGN (channel 84). I thought he was out they both thought safe. After watching the replay several million times, I agree that he was safe.
  4. Williams won praise for using his entire roster and his manage-from-the-gut style. The complaints generally related to Williams' tendency to shuffle lineups without offering any explanations to the players. Williams reportedly refers to himself as "Peanut Head". --------------- No mentions of his imaginary friend Mr. Weebles or his tendency to answer any questions about strategy as "manager's decision."
  5. We got Crime Dog in late June 2001. We got Fred McGriff in late July 2001. Link He strung the Cubs out for a couple weeks before finally agreeing to the trade. Hm, well that shows how good my memory is. You're probably just remembering when we thought he was going to show up v. when he agreed to the trade. Then he came here and helped hit the Cubs out of the playoffs with a monster cold streak because he lost his luck medallion.
  6. Maybe he'll be pitching to Zambrano.
  7. The last thing I would want to see would be Sammy returning to Wrigley in another team's uniform and getting booed.
  8. C - Michael Barrett 1B - D Lee 2b - Uggla SS- Professor Reyes 3b - David Wright OF - Xavier Nady (my wife calls him X-Nad, which makes me laugh) OF - Kenny Lofton OF - Corey Patterson SP - Big Z SP - Steve Trachsel SP - Pedro SP - Marmol SP - Marshall RP - Scott Williamson RP - Ryan Dempster RP - Flash Gordon RP - Kyle Farnsworth RP - Joe Borowski RP - Billy Wagner
  9. No...but we expect the Bears to win their division at the least.
  10. Celebrating its first day of a Buccos win and a Cubs' loss.
  11. DLEE sees better pitches with the bases empty, dude.
  12. I saw Jeremi pitch for the Mets against the Yankees earlier this year. He was pretty brutal...apparently so bad he changed his first name.
  13. lost his mojo. http://www.salon.com/sports/col/kaufman/2006/06/28/wednesday/
  14. Yeah, uhm...I hadn't read the article in awhile. I kept it bookmarked just cause of the Grace stuff.
  15. Lidge is pretty darn good for a closer. Perhaps the best in the NL now that he's gotten over his early season funk where he was tipping pitches. As for Dempster, I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt after his string of what, 26 straight saves? He needs to pitch more because he shows his rust...not to mention that the defense killed him last night? How many er's for Demp last night? 0. Why? Because despite their best efforts to get a team of guys who can catch the ball, the Cubs kind of stink defensively.
  16. According to this article, David Ortiz is the #34 clutch hitter in Red Sox history. And who is the best clutch hitter of the last 30 years? I'll give you a hint, the Cubs threw him under the bus, and the next season he got a single to lead off a rally in the bottom of the 9th of game seven of the WS. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=betweenthenumbers/ortiz/060405
  17. <--------- Still rooting for Z no matter how bad it gets for the rest of them.
  18. Z is great at helping us forget for one night. Knock'em dead.
  19. I was just thinking, "worst team since 1987?" But that team had an-all star at second, the MVP in right, and a player who was one "voting point" away from being the Cy Young winner.
  20. I think the best sign is my sig. file. BELIEVED!
  21. So in other words, you never say YES. Considering I only get games on WGN.....
  22. Its weird...I say I'm rooting against the Cubs, but when I got the game on and they score, or I hear a score on the radio, the reaction is always YES! And when they screw up, its always a Santoesque "Oh NO!"
  23. My wife takes me to about 13 Mets games a year, and since I root for the Mets for 10 of them (I look dapper in my Trachsel Jersey), I guess they've become my #2.
  24. You first. We're right behind ya!
  25. This has been a depressing BandWGN thus far...the Royals have gotten hot though...
