  1. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5420 OPS of .722 but with 9 hr's! Sounds like a perfect fit.
  2. I can't imagine they'll wait until the Cubs come to New York, IN MID JULY, to do the appeal hearing. It'll have to be on a Cubs' off day, maybe right after the next Cincy series in a couple of weeks. The only time players "decide" when to start their suspension is when they appeal a suspension and drop it the appeal at some advantageous point before the appeal would be heard. Its most common when a pitcher gets suspended for something ridiculously low, like six games. Right after a start and when there is an off-day coming up, the pitcher drops his appeal, goes on a week vacation to the Virgen Islands, and thanks to some creative use of the rotation and off-day doesn't actually miss a start. And not to nit-pick, but the suspension begins at the start of the first game after the appeal is dropped/the suspension is upheld. I was in the bleachers in Baltimore when Sammy was suspended and he still did all of the pregame drills. But by the time the national anthem was sung, he was out of the ballpark.
  3. How many people think Milledge would look pretty good in a Cubs' uniform? Think we could get him and Floyd for Maddux, Marshall and Murton? Mets desperately need more starting pitching if they want to ride out the season. Murton would actually give them more production then they've gotten from Big Cliff. Marshall would be necesary to try and pry a player of Milledge's talent. Maddog gets to pitch with Glavine and they get one last run together for a second ring. For the Cubs, they get a new young position player to ruin, I mean, build a team around and Floyd comes off the books soon enough anyways. Oh yeah, it also means they won't contend this year.
  4. I'm with Glass Cow....this season has hit "funny bad." Laugh it up for the next five months. The season hit funny bad LONG before this series my friend. Nah, for me it was when that Fish pitcher mathced Pierre's RBI total for the season.
  5. I'm with Glass Cow....this season has hit "funny bad." Laugh it up for the next five months.
  6. Cubs are showing tremendous discipline. Moehler has thrown 31 pitches in three innings. At this rate, they'll get to the Marlins' bullpen around th 13th.
  7. The only prediction I made on this board was: If Prior, Wood and Zambrano start a combined 81 games, the team will contend for the wild card. If they're not close, they'll be bad. My guess, they'll start about 60 games total. Well, we know they'll be bad...now I need the injuries to hold up to get me to "around sixty starts."
  8. Fair enough...but the point remains the same. A laid back, young, player that can't handle getting booed is a bad fit for a big-market team like the Cubs.
  9. Playing in Baltimore ought to be every player's dream...beautiful park and laid back fans. Sure, the occasional idiot will throw cork at me and my Sammy sign (uhm, hypothetically speaking) but there's very rarely any booing. Heck, if you can love Brady Anderson, you can love anyone. For Corey "Its Just a Game" Patterson, thats probably the place where he can excel. I've heard good things about the manager from a friend (and Cubs' fan) that lives in Baltimore. His waiver wire pickup of Patterson has him killing me in our fantasy league. And if anyone wants to look up the stats... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=4239 vs. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6550
  10. I just got married last year and have an inordinate amount of towels. That makes me pitching coach.
  11. Ok, then why are you still watching this year? I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just curious for your POV...I mean, its a bit masochistic to watch these guys if you're only watching to see them win...
  12. Goony, I think you watch for more then just wins and losses. I would wager that you enjoy discussing the team, going to the ballpark, trying to figure out ways to make the team better, even rolling your eyes at Dusty. If not, you wouldn't be a fixture on the Cubs' Internet to the point that when I went to the ESPN board after a two year hiatus last year I asked, "Where's goony, beerhere, raw, u_of_kentucky, etc...." and got directed here. I said, "only watch to see the team win." For pretty much anyone that posts here regularly they're clearly getting something from this team besides watching them win...and that holds true even when the team is hot.
  13. I don't know if "deserves" is the right word...does BeerHere "deserve" a Cubs WS more then me..?.. a lowly fan of just 20 years? What about poor Steve Bartman? Does he deserve it less because Moises Alou thinks he single handidly cost us the playoffs? Lets take it to the next level...does the city of Chicago deserve more championships then NY? How about LA? How about Kansas City? If you watch sports only to see your team win, I think you're missing the point...we can't control whether or not any of our teams win a title, so to say we do or don't "deserve" it is just a little silly.
  14. Good thing thats enough hatred for the day...if you had mentioned any other Cubs fans that you hated, I would start to think you were one of the outfielders. This has been an interesting thread for me as my Mets' fan wife has been pretty unbearable this year about the states of our baseball teams and the constant, "why are you rooting for these guys?" The sad thing is, even though I only see them in person a couple of times a year, this team has set some personal records for me: 2004 - First time I booed a Cubs player (Alou). 2005 - First time I left a game early (I went to eight Cubs' games last year (a record hi for me because they also played the Yankees), and they lost all 8. They never had a lead. The other teams "out stole" the Cubs 16-1. And the 1 was Maddux. 2006 - ??? I don't know, whats it going to be? Am I going to hope the Cubs' actually lose their games? Hopefully this will just be "first time I had the option to buy extra-innings and didn't."
  15. It depends on their relationship...if Jones and Sullivan are relaxed around each other, there's nothing wrong with him saying, "dude, you misquoted me." I do a lot of media relations in my job and misquotes happen...what they tell you in pr school is just to let the reporter know it happened so that it is less likely to happen again. I say less likely, because it will happen again. If you're a pro-athlete, you have to be able to handle this sort of thing on your own. If you think the reporter is out to get you, thats another situation and its when its acceptable to shut down or have the team's pr folks talk to the reporter and his/her editor if necesary. It is never a good idea to yell at a reporter. Ever.
  16. I like Blanco as catcher and Barret as DH. Its not like there's anyone on the bench that is a much better hitter then Blanco and how often have we heard that our pitchers all have man crushed on him or something like that? Let him catch all weekend...if it makes the pitchers happy AND it gives Barett a rest, I'm all for it. Plus, he is a heck of a defensive catcher. You want someone with his cannon arm to help against a team that I remember as run happy.
  17. OMG...I just realized that if I had to fill out a lineup card for today's game, I have no idea who I'd DH...unless thats where they stick ARAM.
  18. Just being aggressive, dude.
  19. How about that the Nitz' hit his 7th hr on the season, which would be good enough to lead the Cubs in homers.
  20. Barrett dropping the third strike of the third out of the bottom of the ninth in Philly last year then throwing the ball to the wrong base.... ....that was the worst play ever.
  21. No comments about how with the Cubs' rallying Neifi "saved" the game for the Nationals? We should be inspired that Team Savior is generous enough to save other teams as well.
  22. Guys...accountability is so 1990's. Its out of vogue everywhere...not just Cubs' baseball.
  23. Nah...they'll pull him for a ph after 80 pitches and its his turn up. He only gets two ab's by my logic. 5 ip 5 h 4 bb 4 r 3 er 6 k Cubs lose 4-2 I think you win. The only part you got wrong was the walks, the Ks are right, the IP is right, the runs are right, and the hits are right. Somehow, it doesn't make yesterday any better. When do we do one for Prior?
  24. I don't think a lot rides on today's game or this series. The Cubs got two great pitching performances against bad teams. 9 runs in two games isn't something to start popping corks over, especially when you look at the era's of Zach Day and "whatever happened to" Livan Hernandez. I don't think its a surprise to anyone that when the french-imposters in the outfield hit well the Cubs win...but needing them to hit well explains why the team is battling the Bucs for last place.
