  1. What I'm really hoping for is a Bears team that wins the division and gets a dome team to come to Soldier Field in January for the Wild Card round; just because I think it would be weird for this team, clearly not a great team, to be the most accomplished Bears team since Wanny's team upset the Vikings when I was in high school.
  2. Living in Yankees country, I just want them not to win the WS...even if it takes the Cardinals to beat them.
  3. Interesting, that game was on FOX too. No, that game was on ESPN. I remember being ticked that it was called by Jon "The Giants Announcer" Miller and Joe "I hate the Cubs" Morgan. I also remember 2000 shots of Dusty playing with his toothpick and thinking, "man, he looks like he's not even paying attention." I now know he was thinking, "DUDE, I knew we should have gotten Gaetti and signed him to a long term deal before the Cubs swooped in."
  4. How about Rickey then? :D Player/ Coach? Can he play center
  5. When I went to the Braves-Cubs series in 2003 (and half the stadium was Cubs' fans) I talked to the Braves' fans around me...yeah, the NLDS and NLCS aren't anything special to them. To quote one of them, "They just become a different team in the playoffs, a bad one. Its hard to get excited anymore."
  6. Not living in Chicago, I haven't even heard any Jeff George talk. Are you kidding me? What has that guy ever won? He ain't the difference between this team being what it is and this team getting to the next level. If the Bears can make the playoffs with what they got, a soft schedule and a ridiculous division, its something to build on. Winning eight games with a "veteran" qb that will be gone next year for Grossman won't accomplish a damm thing.
  7. But its not the Yankees either. To answer an earlier question, I would rather have a $2 million dollar player that wins two games then an $8 million player that wins 8.
  8. I dunno, the Hawk still got a lot of love from Cubs' fans when he returned to his normal numbers in 1988-1991
  9. Dude, they were at the Meadowlands last year...if I can make it to Happy Valley for a game, you can make it to East Rutherford. Incidently, love the sig. picture of Joe and the boys. Lets hope our football teams take a bite out of Ohio this year.
  10. When ND Stadium was rebuilt they sold their bricks. I paid $50 for mine, and it came with a COA. Also Soldier field sold their seats. I have seen the W/L Flags that fly after the games being sold in MLB auctions. Does anyone else know of any stadium pieces that have been sold by it's respective organization? Oh yea, if there is a brick "borrowing" mission I would pay whatever the going price is. They sell all the flags that are above the stadium...I remember thinking about buying one of Dawson's once.
  11. You don't think Billy Conners is available?
  12. Should this be in "Transactions?" Trib reports Larry might be headed to Detroit to be reunite their 1997 World Series coaching staff. I'm fine with it; I actually am pretty unimpressed with Rothschild.
  13. I just consider the White Sox rivals, thats all. I would rather see nothing then "Go White Sox," but would rather see "Go Red Sox" then "Go White Sox," because at least that's funny. Ok, truth be told, "Go Padres" would be my favorite. I wasn't a Cubs fan yet in 1984 :D
  14. You talk like the Cubs don't already have a lot of wasted money on the roster. Without looking up the numbers, I'm guessing around $20 million for Kerry and Maddux? There's already enough waste without knowingly overpaying for mid-level players.
  15. Good for the Cubs, but seriously....wouldn't you have preferred to see "Go Red Sox?" It would have been a lot funnier.
  16. Its also the definition of "insanity."
  17. Finding this place after posting on the ESPN board is a lot like finding water in the desert. That place was so bad, and ESPN ticks me off to begin with... 1) Dusty Baker is not as bad a manager as Jim Essian or Don Baylor. Just my view. However, his arrogance make him a lot harder to stomach. 2) I don't think a healthy version of this team makes the playoffs. If healthy, they'll probably have a chance to prove it next year. 3) The way the team is built needs a complete overhaul. I can't think of one player on this team that I would consider a lock to be a star in five years. Not one. When Dusty arrived before the 2003 season, I could name several. That has to be on both Dusty and Hendy.
  18. That's a 60% increase. Thats a lot.
  19. But such a player no longer exists. The Cubs have a lot of expiring contracts, I want the house to be cleaned. I think the first priority needs to be getting Dempster taken care of. I'm not sure if he is an unrestricted FA right now, but if he is get him before anyone else offers him a contract. Edited because I stopped paying attention to the Cubs over the weekend and I now realize Dempster was resigned. Good start to the offseason.
  20. How can you have a discussion of the great SS's in the NL and not even mention Jose Reyes?
  21. A year ago I would have said Mark Loretta. I'm thinking that pretty much any player on the West Coast not named Ichiro or Bonds can qualify.
  22. I think the Cubs traded him two days later.
  23. The Mets are interested in a firstbaseman with some pop...a Benson for Overbay trade improves both teams.
  24. I gotta think that Len and Bob know that questioning the manager can lead to getting Stoned.
  25. Building on this, the Bears are the anti-Cubs. How many players stepped up and took responsibility for their two losses and not doing EVERYTHING they could to help the team win? Heck, I remember reading Mike Brown claim the defense let the team down after not allowing a TD and losing 9-7.
