  1. I'll try and do this from my cell. Red Sox first, probably don't match up well with them either. On their 40 man, they have Ryan Lavarnway, an all hit, no field C. Will middlebrooks is a prototypical 3B prospect. Good glove, good power. Ryan Kalish is an OFer who's a solid hitter and fielder, good glove, decent speed. Think Brett Jackson with slightly less pop and less K's and BB's. Josh Reddick has power, may wind up a very good 4th OFer. Off their 40 man, Xander Bogaerts is a SS, probably moves to 3B though. Shot up rankings lists this year, ala Castro. Supposedly untouchable for them. Bigtime hitter. Garin Cecchini has all the tools in the world, a 3B as well, yet to play full season ball. Brandon Jacobs is a 5 tool OFer, lots of K's and a long way away as well. Sean Coyle is an excellent hitting 2B. Lots of pop. Bryce Brentz is a typical RF prospect. Big power, big arm, contact issues. Anthony Ranaudo is their top pitching prospect. Throws hard, very inconsistent. Haywood Workman is an innings eater, big body type that winds up as a 4 or 5. Alex Wilson is a guy we drafted once, big body, innings eater or possble pen arm.
  2. I think Theo has channeled his inner Ricky Bobby. "If you ain't first, you're last." By the way, Levine kind of floated a package from Toronto for Garza, although he certainly has no clue as to who the centerpiece would be. He mentioned Deck McGuire as the centerpiece, Jake Marisnick, and Justin Nicolino. Personally, I like it a lot. But, if the Yanks offered Montero and one of Banuelos or Betances, I'm not sure which I'd take. Montero is certainly the best prospect, but I think Nicolino is right there potential-wise with either of the Yankee pitchers, just further away. It'd come down to whether Marisnick and McGuire is worth more than Montero. I guess I doubt it is, but it's close for me at least. Replace McGuire with Syndergaard or Hutchison and I'd take the Jays deal.
  3. Good lord, this makes me wonder how much they can milk some team out of for Garza. To get a cheap, cost controlled lefty, a decent cost controlled 4th OF type with potential AND a borderline top 100 prospect for one year of Marshall? I was basically OK with Wood as the main piece, after thinking about it, but damn. This is a home run now.
  4. Holy [expletive]. Torreyes is damn near a top 100 guy. Go over to that Reds board now, if you want a gauge on how they feel about this deal now. Torreyes is like Jose Altuve. And Sappelt is a very solid guy too. Absolute steal now, as far as the deal goes. Didn't think there was a chance of getting Torreyes. He's probably going to slot in after Brett, Baez, and Szczur. Either right ahead or right behind McNutt on our prospect lists.
  5. Right now, I'd say they are top 10. BA likes Cox a lot more than most, but even if you take him out, Jenkins should be in there.
  6. Not sure where to put this, but now would be the perfect time to see some of these "parallel fronts" Theo is talking about. Kuroda, Oswalt, and Jackson are the last 3 solid pitchers on the market. Meaning they are options for the teams still in need of SP. Now, Garza is certainly a better option than they are, but they just cost money. So, I wonder if signing Kuroda is a serious option for us? My honest guess is Oswalt's going to want to play for a winner. Jackson's going to be a 3 or 4 year commitment. So, Kuroda may be our best shot. Getting these guys off the market only helps Garza's value.
  7. Rangers offered him a major league deal as well.
  8. I think the Marlins will go all-in on Cespedes, to the point where I think it's a foregone conclusion that's where he's headed. Plus, I personally think with the lack of quality pitching, especially at the higher levels, will almost assure us of getting back a bigtime pitching prospect. Probably as the headliner. In fact, I'll be surprised if we don't wind up with 2 pitching prospects out of a Garza deal that don't slot immediately into our top 10.
  9. So, he was on a minor league deal with Texas in 2011? Either they didn't like how he looked at Instructs or he just used them to go somewhere else, I guess. If this helps givd Shark a shot at starting(his last one) I'm for it. On the other hand, part of me is wondering if Kerry Wood has been informed of the rebuild and has decided to go ahead and retire.
  10. At this point, being the best guy on the market and having 3 AL East teams in the mix, I think one top 50 prospect, one top 100ish guy, one guy in the low minors with high upside, and one major league stopgap cheap starter. I'm going to say we'll target pitching moreso than anything too, so I don't think Boston has a realistic shot.
  11. I thought Lee was an immediate move, wasn't it? Like the first move of the entire offseason of MLB.
  12. League offices are closed all next week, right? Meaning no deals whatsoever, right?
  13. Yeah, I'm going off the premise we could get a 4 player haul out of Toronto, while the Yanks probably don't gut their system for us. If I could get one of Montero or Sanchez and BOTH Banuelos and Betances, I'm definitely thrilled. But, if I could get Marisnick, Syndergaard, Nicolino, and one of McGuire or Sanchez, I'd probably take the Toronto package honestly. Plus, the fact those guys are all able to be kept off the 40 man counts for me. Betances is already on it and obviously Montero is.
  14. Logan Morrison tweeted that his boy Prince is headed to Seattle. I'm not sure what's funnier, either him breaking news like that or trolling sports writers and everyone else.
  15. Is Montero even going to be a capable 1B though? If he's not, he's an AL guy his entire career. And I'm not even sure the Yanks would trade him anyway. I like Betances and Banuelos, but it's about all they've got. Romine or Murphy would be averagish 3rd pieces. If you could get the 2 pitchers and Mason Williams, that'd be a damn good haul. My idea though, is it's more likely we could get a 4 or 5 player haul out of Toronto. And with as much upside if Montero isn't included.
  16. I was a fan of dealing with the Yanks, until I truly looked at Toronto's system and what they already have in the majors. Henderson Alvarez. Drabek, Lawrie, Arencibia, Rasmus, and Snider. That's just guys off their major league roster. In the minors, they have D'Arnoud, Gose, Marisnick, Jimenez, Knecht, and Perez as position players. D'Arnoud's untouchable, but Gose and Marisnick are in the same realm, maybe higher than Brett is. Jimenez and Perez are probably better C prospects than what we have anyway. Knecht looks like a solid bet to be a power hitting corner OFer. Pitching-wise, Syndergaard and Nicolino both have top end ability, just a ways away. Hutchison is close to their level as well. McGuire is a damn good bet to be a 3/4 guy. Sanchez has breakout ability as well. Wojciechowski does too. Lots of options here. Pitching is better than what Yanks have to offer and have much, much more of it. Hitting has more depth as well. And again, this isn't even counting the guys they already have brought up.
  17. To me, Norris is the 3rd guy in that deal. Cole has top end potential and some say Peacock does as well. Others may say Peacock winds up as a closer, but his progress this past year was tremendous. Millone is a guy who probably tops out upper 80's, but has pinpoint control and is crafty as hell. He'll have a very long career.
  18. I don't see a Red Sox package I'd want either, although it's certainly possible they could be part of a 3 team deal with the Pads, involving Rizzo. The familiarity of the players, plus the friendship of those guys could help make that work obviously.
  19. The key to this trade is how it affects us, as far as I'm concerned. It leaves the Yanks, Red Sox, and Blue Jays ALL still looking for an elite arm. The Tigers could be involved, maybe the Marlins, especially after Gio just went to their division. What pitchers are left out there that compare to Garza? You have Jackson on the FA market, but he's not as good and has baggage to the point where some teams may not trust him. But, he'd only cost money. Jurrjens? Only other guy I can think of currently on the market. Certainly doesn't compare either. Plus, Garza already has a winning pedigree in the AL East. I think it's set up very well for us to get an excellent haul for him.
  20. Gio just went for the exact package I said I'd take from the Nats, plus Milone. Peacock, cole, and Norris, with Millone is an excellent haul.
  21. I spent some time looking over the Reds system and think that whoever these prospects are, they'll be guys that don't have to go on the 40 man roster. Yorman Rodriguez is the guy that stands out to me. Ronald Torreyes does as well, although he may be harder to obtain. JC Sulbaran is the only pitcher I see that's kind of interesting. Neftali Soto and Junior Arias are also guys that I wouldn't mind. Rodriguez is 18, played in the MWL last year and held his own. Sloppy approach, bigtime power, bonus baby from Latin America. Probably fills out and moves to a corner OF spot. Torreyes is 140 pounds. Middle infielder, with one of the best hit tools in the minors. Sulbaran is a big guy, throws hard, has command problems and only has 2 pitches. Probable back end bullpen arm. Neftali Soto is a !B who can mash, but also strikes out a ton and is not a good defender, even at 1B. Junior Arias is a SS with power, horrible contact, and probably moves to #B longterm the further up he gets. That's about it, honestly. Rodriguez and Torreyes are far and away my favorites. They have guys ON the 40 man who'd be solid gets, I just doubt we want to add another guy right now.
  22. If I could somehow get Norris, Peacock, and Cole for Garza, I'd do it and not think twice.
  23. In his defense, he actually said Hamilton could, not would. I wanted to keep my hopes down, but I hope we find out sometime soon today.
  24. Heyman tweeted something about 5 teams looking for utility guys and listed 5 that were available. We were listed as one of the teams.
  25. Maybe they've got trades working with Baker and/or Dewitt? Or maybe they're looking to send out a NRI? If it's not one of these two things, then I see nothing positive about this.
