  1. One of those MLBInsider guys on Twitter(no idea if he actually has contacts) said the Marlins have complicated matters in trading Garza. With our need for pitching and the fact they have none, makes me wonder if they're offering Jose Fernandez as part of their package? If so and we want to accept their offer, what's the deal? Guys drafted last year can't even be named as a PTBNL until sometime in February, right? And then can't officially be acquired until June? Am I correct on this? If so, this definitely complicates things, because we can't consummate a deal with them, other teams can move on, then Miami can still back out as well.
  2. Crisp has a picture of a kid(maybe even a young pic of himself) in an Orioles uniform as his pic on Twitter. May mean nothing, but odd if it doesn't.
  3. Send Byrd to the Nats with Destin Hood as the centerpiece coming back.
  4. I hate to say it, but I kind of agree with Toronto's thinking. They're not really in need of him yet. If they added Fielder, then maybe so. But, right now, giving up a ton for 2 years of Garza doesn't make a ton of sense, because even by adding him, they're probably still 4th in that division right now. I hope Detroit goes ahead and makes us an offer we can't refuse. Heard the Marlins are considered one of the favorites now too, unless they're offering LoMo and Yelich, I just can't see it.
  5. I think AZPhil said at some point that they'll give him a shot as a starter, because of how dominant he's looked and how quickly he regained everything.
  6. With the sad state of our pitching in the minors, I actually think Burke has more upside than anyone, if it all comes together. Very high ceiling, very low floor. But, if he has things working, I could see him getting all the way to Tennessee this year.
  7. How about comeback guys? Obviously Hayden Simpson would be at the top of the list, but who else? Robinson Lopez and Michael Burgess seem like 2 candidates to me.
  8. With what our supposed asking price is, I'm starting to believe this is the Roberts/Peavy thread from past years. Where nothing winds up happening. If we get an extension and make a solid move or two towards contending, I'm obviously OK with this. If we add Coco Crisp and Paul Maholm, I'm not.
  9. I'm on my cell, so I can't post a link, but the Cubs evidently signed a 16 year old lefty pitcher by the name of Louis Cornelio Montano. He throws 85 and the Cubs are loaning him to a team in the Mexican League. Brett found the signing, some guys at PSD translated it. No clue how Brett found it, but great work by him.
  10. I'd rather deal him now than hold onto him, unless there's a 4 or 5 year extension given to him. Yeah, there may be other teams in on him at the deadline, but there may be other pitchers available as well. Not to mention, Garza's coming off a career year, is this him hitting his prime(likely) or is he going to regress in 2012?
  11. Looking through other systems, especially after a couple of teams gutted their's for guys recently, I'd say we're in the 18-22 range. If we trade Garza and Byrd(he'd at least get us back a couple of guys that slot in our top 30's anyway) and sign Jorge Soler, how high does the system go? Top 10ish? Maybe a tad higher?
  12. Phenomenal. Best breakdown we'll get. Thanks a bunch Toonster. My guess is from Sickels, we'll get Brett as a B+, Baez, Szczur, and McNutt as B's and Maples, Castillo, Torreyes, Vitters, and possibly Lake as B-'s. Love the Hernandez grade, think you hated not going B- on Wells and probably wanted to go higher on Candelario. Am I right?
  13. I don't blame Theo one bit, if that's what he asked for out of them. The national media hypes the Yankees prospects up way too much. Montero is a helluva bat, but he's got no position to play. He MAY be passable at 1B. Banuelos has control issues, is smallish, and has upside, but to me, he's probably a top 75ish guy. Betances has serious command issues that could turn him into a bullpen arm, not to mention the fact he's getting older. Hopefully this is Theo telling the Yanks he just sees other teams prospects as being better fits for us.
  14. Good God. No wonder he hasn't been talked about much. Teams are still laughing at him from when Boras told them that. 3/33 seems like solid value for him, from us or anyone else.
  15. If we don't sign Prince, I hope the Nats do. I'm about 2 hours away and go see them play 4 or 5 times a year anyway. They've got a core group of guys anyone should be envious of, at this stage. It'd be nice to see them competing for that division.
  16. One thing I've never really understood about Brett not having much of a ceiling and considered to be a future average to above average regular is it's usually followed by someone saying he should be a relatively high OBP guy, solid defensively with 20/20 ability? That's probably a 4 or 5 WAR player, isn't it? And it seems most think he's probably close to a sure thing, as far as prospects go, to reaching his ceiling. If that's what he is, I think we'll all be watching him play quite a few AS games as an "averagish" type guy.
  17. I have a feeling Prince is even holding up a Garza deal. Not because of we don't know whether or not we'll deal Garza or not, but because we've probably got SD involved in a deal, because of Rizzo, who we won't need, if we get Fielder obviously. That said, Detroit is a very good landing spot for either of Dewitt or Baker. I think one of them would be involved personally, probably Dewitt, since he's cheaper. How's this: San Diego sends Rizzo to us, we send Garza and Dewitt to Detroit, Detroit sends Porcello to San Diego, and Turner and Smyly to us. We send San Diego their choice of Carpenter or Dolis.
  18. Russell and young bullpen arms is what kept coming up with Headley.
  19. I hope something happens soon here. Jurrjens and Floyd are on the market, plus Oswalt, Kuroda, and Jackson. There's plenty of teams needing pitching and Garza's the best out of the bunch, but I don't want to see Toronto or Detroit go in a different direction, because they seem to be the 2 with the most interest and also with the best packages to offer.
  20. I'm not seeing how you came to that conclusion. I should have said this move AND the Quentin move. Saves them over 10 mill and they have been rumored to go after him anyway, now they've shaved some money off their payroll.
  21. Kenny Williams is a crzay person. But this move almost definitely means he's going to go hard after Cespedes.
  22. Yeah, I'd be fine with Matt, just hope we could find some at bats for him.
  23. I am all for ideas, but what gives the impression that we would trade a starting pitcher we just traded for while giving up our best reliever? Because getting a potential elite bat is more important longterm than a starting pitcher with mid rotation potential, at his very best. Not to mention, in this case, I think Smyly will do everything we can hope Wood will do as well.
  24. If Garza can net us Turner and Smyly and more, I'd send Wood or Vitters over if it got us Castellanos as well.
  25. They don't have a lefty in their rotation either, maybe they want Travis Wood? Or maybe, to get Castellanos, they want Vitters or Lake in return? Maybe it's both? How about Garza/Wood/Vitters/ for Turner/Porcello/Castellanos/Smyly/?
