  1. I think Soto and Marmol are chips as well, just no teams in need of a starting C at the moment, but injuries will most likely change that. I kind of think we'll hold onto Byrd for a few months, to give Brett some more time in AAA. I could see us dealing Marmol though and giving Cashner or Carpenter a shot at closing. Shark as well, if he can't stick in the rotation.
  2. And yeah, Toronto is really starting to be who I want to deal with, if we trade Garza. They have some serious upside guys, pitching-wise. Would acquiring Marisnick and spinning him off for Rizzo be too much?
  3. Trading Brett isn't ideal, it's not what I want to do either. I just figured if we replaced him with Cespedes, it'd be OK. But, you're right, even if Rizzo has MORE offensive ability, it still wouldn't be a great value deal. I think our best bet to acquire him would be to try and involve a 3rd team with a Garza deal and we could spin something towards SD for him that way. The ideal way to me though, would be if they'd accept Wood and a guy like Lake.
  4. So far, Theo has........Hired Hoyer, McLeod, Rahman, and others to give us much more of a front office presence. He fired Quade. Hired Sveum. Offered arbitration to both Aramis and Pena. Non tendered Hill. Signed DeJesus to a team friendly deal. Traded for a relatively high upside guy in Stewart, while giving up nothing of consequence. Traded one year of Marshall for 5 of Wood, plus prospects. Signed Reed Johnson for slightly over a mill. No big signings of FA yet. Overall direction of team looks to be rebuilding, but still not totally sure honestly. Bottom line is of the moves we HAVE made, if giving Reed Johnson slightly over a mill winds up being the worst move of the entire offseason, I'm completely OK with it.
  5. Wittenmeyer has an article up, touching on Reed, the trade, and Buckner. Says Johnson's deal is "believed to be worth slightly over a million dollars".
  6. I threw that number out on the first page of this thread. Certainly was a guess and hopefully it's wrong.
  7. Sulbaran seems intriguing. Command issues, but plenty of upside and has made progress.
  8. Keith Law was asked about the prospects we're getting, said Corcino wasn't one of the names he heard. Did say Cub fans should be pleased though, they're not zeroes.
  9. Wow. That reds44 guy is a moron. Doesn't he post here? Or used to post here anyway?
  10. If these prospects were solid, wouldn't it usually have leaked by now?
  11. I like Goldstein and don't expect Hamilton as part of the return, but I'd love to see his and the Reds fans on that site's reaction, if he was.
  12. I wonder if Wood could possibly be moved immediately as part of a Rizzo deal? I know they could have had him in the Latos deal, but maybe they wanted all those guys and more?
  13. For what it's worth, Keith Law likes the trade for the Cubs. Based on who he thinks the 2 prospects are.
  14. I'm not a huge Travis Wood fan, but 5 years of cost control of him for Marshall isn't bad, the more I think about it. I hope we get a decent prospect, but in the end, the new CBA actually hurts the value of guys like Marshall somewhat. Since there's no compensation for them anymore.
  15. I think the key to the Wood trade is the fact we'd have him under control for 5 years and he's already in the majors. I'm not sure what we could get of possible use from the Reds, other than Hamilton or Corcino. Unless they were willing to trade us Stepheson as a PTBNL.
  16. Kaplan is saying these are not external sources he's hearing this from. Internal guys have told him this and everyone other than Castro is available. He's putting himself pretty far out on a limb if he's wrong.
  17. Kaplan just posted a Breaking News article that I can't link from my phone, but says we're going to do a total rebuild, not serious players on Fielder, etc. Probably worth starting a new thread on, even if it IS Kaplan.
  18. Bowden tweeted that the quality of the prospects involved is the key as to whether it gets done. Lending me to believe Cubs probably ARE asking for Hamilton. Divisional rival, make them pay up, Theo.
  19. Did the Cubs/Rockies trade not get recognized for a few days until everyone passed physicals? I think I remember them saying the deal was agreed to on Tuesday night, but wasn't announced until Friday morning, when everything was done. Maybe this is how we're doing things? Waiting on announcements until all is completely done?
  20. Phil Rogers mentioned in his column today this move could lead to a flurry of deals for Theo. I know it's Rogers, but I'd really like to see some things start happening. He even mentioned Matt Harrison for Byrd and other stuff, maybe Wells. I wish he was right for once.
  21. Levine said yesterday in his chat that the plan was to blow this thing up completely, but the new CBA has changed their minds, since you can't just go crazy in the draft anymore with money.
  22. PSD insider who knows his stuff, said he's heard Hamilton could be one of the minor leaguers.
  23. That sure as [expletive] is something to get worked up over. Why? The new guys don't know Campana. Reed is a decent backup OFer. It's doubtful we'll have both Soriano and Byrd by spring training and they've already said Brett is starting the year in AAA. But how do they know Reed Johnson? After all he wasn't in the Boston or San Diego system last year, and those are clearly the only players they could know anything about. This is the exact same fritter away a million here, a million there idiocy that Hendry was the worst at. Levine said yesterday they know nothing about Campana, other than he's fast. I'd certainly think FO's know much more about MLB players who've been around a while than mid round draft picks that have just made it up. Yes, this is frittering away a little cash, if they give him 1.5. I'd much rather spend it differently. But, it's not like Hendry, because he'd give him a 2 year 4 or 5 mill deal. Plus, the number I attached may be wrong as it is. Hopefully it's less. But, it's 600,000 more than what he'd make on a minor league deal. It's enough to sign a decent IFA guy possibly, but other than that, I'm not sure it's going to make that much of a difference. Now, if they go out and sign 3 or 4 more guys like this, I'll be pissed.
  24. Who the F cares who they "know"? That's something Dusty Baker would have said while giving a crappy veteran 500 PA to show what he can do in front of Dusty's eyes. You don't need to know the players. I'm just repeating what Levine said in his chat yesterday about Campana. Signing Reed isn't going to kill this team, in any way. Now, if the money is higher than I mentioned, I'd get pissy too and I'd certainly prefer if he was given less. I said 1.5 because I figure they'd give him a raise over the 900,000 he made last year.
