  1. Theo, your official welcome just commenced.
  2. His status is about to go through the roof. May take til next year, but who knows? I'm starting to think he's got a legit chance to be top 20 at the end of this year. On a different good note, Szczur is 3-3 against Jose Fernandez.
  3. I guess the Bulls are close to getting Bellinelli.
  4. If they can get a two year extension in place with Dempster, Lee would be a phenomenal return. Hopefully, that's the current holdup.
  5. Bowden says there's a rumor of Shields and Zobrist to the Angels for Richards, Kendrick, Hellweg, and more. Wow.
  6. The Dodgers need bats moreso than arms and it's not even close. So from that standpoint, Dempster makes perfect sense for them. Acquiring Garza takes them out of any big bat possibilities because most of the ammo they've got would be gone. I'm guessing this is just more media negotiating going on.
  7. Sniped. The more I think about it, with Greinke's issues, Hamels' possibly staying put, and no one else actually on the market, maybe Garza gets BEFORE Demp does? Maybe puts more teams back on Dempster and gets us more of a return?
  8. FFS Demp, just bunk with Lilly for a few months and we'll give you an extension in time for the Holidays. did you just completely ignore the part where brett says "I have not heard this"? http://www.google.com/imgres?q=ten+second+tom&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&rlz=1I7LENP&biw=1280&bih=623&tbm=isch&tbnid=zV0lb3IlgjYZIM:&imgrefurl=http://www.availableimages.com/celebs/c/allen-covert/pictures-50-first-dates_pph_23.html&docid=FwkQpnOsOkdPRM&imgurl=http://www.availableimages.com/images/pictures/2004/50-first-dates/aph_23.jpg&w=720&h=540&ei=DswKUNGUGo2i8gSL7eT4Cg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=119&vpy=144&dur=3343&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=53&ty=213&sig=113730786163221270677&page=1&tbnh=127&tbnw=180&start=0&ndsp=19&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:75
  9. If we trade Garza, I think Maholm stays. If we don't, I think he's gone. Obviously, the returns aren't anywhere close, but I think we'll keep one or the other to have a guy here we already know, to go with Shark and Wood for next year.
  10. I saw an article mentioning Rudy Owens and Jeff Locke with the Pirates as possibilities. Both are borderline top 10ish guys for them, lefties, and in AAA. Unsure if they were thinking one or the other, or both. I've never seen either of them on tape. Locke is the much harder throwing of the pair, but are they considered much better than Rusin or Raley? Therw's only so many backend lefty starters a team needs, when you've already got some, as it is.
  11. I trust them too, but I can't imagine Gould is at least on the table, probably more, if the Dodgers offered him for Carlos Lee.
  12. Sveum has his phone turned up loud, just in case he gets a call saying Dempster's been dealt, according to Muskat.
  13. An injury is the MAIN thing. Even if we were getting Gould straight up for him. A DL stint means he won't be dealt. With Garza or even Maholm, if you eanted to, they're tradeable in the offseason. That's my main issue. That being said, my honest guess is we're not getting nearly the type of offers we want here, so while we may be in a rush, it's certainly possible no one else is.
  14. Info that's probably not worth a damn thing, but Eovaldi is scheduled to start Sunday, against the Mets, in New York. They could easily give Dempster an extra couple of days rest before that start. Whether Eovaldi is in the deal or not, because that's the spot Dempster would be taking.
  15. He's beyond due to have a bad start. With the possibility of that and also the injury chance, the only reason this isn't getting done is because the offers must be horrible. You'd think a team would want him making this start for them, with as close as the races are.
  16. If this is true, the thing that sticks out the most here is almost proves we're getting shitty proposals for him. We wouldn't risk this, if that wasn't the case.
  17. Olney said talks will continue with a handful of teams after his start tonight. :banghead:
  18. It is pretty awesome that basically none of the beat guys, national, or even the Cubs guys, are saying the same things. Airtight front office.
  19. meh, the guys they gave up aren't the guys they would have to give up to get garza. their system is plenty deep and they have enough quality to get garza if they want him. their rotation is still not very good - happ is a marginal back-end guy. if that was all they wanted (an upgrade to j.a. happ) then there's nothing the cubs could really do about it. I look at it as them "appearing to buy". I don't think that with their injuries, they wanted to make a real move. I guess if they get hot over the next week and a half, things could change, but they dealt from their depth, without hurting anything. I bet they're quiet from here on out.
  20. I hate that Toronto probably eliminated themselves on this front. I guess we're looking at Detroit, Boston, and hopefully Texas and Atlanta as the main groups in on him.
  21. If the prospects we're getting here are possibly meaningful, which at least one should be, we can't take the risk of Dempster getting injured. He gets hurt and he's not back until after the deadline, which means we get nothing. Because he'd get blocked in August. Hopefully this thing gets done today. Assuming we're getting at least Gould. If the packages are awful, it's certainly understandable to let him pitch.
  22. Sure, things CAN go on a few more days, or either of Ned, Theo, or whoever else we're dealing with can easily make one call and it's done. Personally, I don't see him making his start tonight.
